    Such a good series, learned so many new things! Appreciate the breakdown of fireflies and how they occur. I was playing around with settings and not really understanding how they occur, so this was a big help!

    Hey Will!
    I've just made through this tutorial, all the three parts and I am sooooo thankful for these videos you make. I've only deepdived into Keyshot a few days ago and already managed to do 4 other tutorials of yours about material graphs. I have still much to learn and practice, but you're getting me closer to understand how the magic works... Please keep doing this stunning keyshot tutorials, they are amazing, and so understandable, and just simply the best out there. Wish you all the best, and thank you!!

    Hi Will, when I import the .fbx file of the plant none of the materials are added. Does this all have to be done manually?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  2 года назад +1

      Yes, sometimes... it's kind of tricky. It depends on how the model was created/saved. The textures should be in the same folder the 3d model is as well when you import the model into KeyShot.

    Maybe you could also do a night scene with only artificial light from inside?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад

      Sure. I'd encourage you to try. All you have to do is delete the texture used to create the window and and that's it. :)

    Hi Will,
    I always use max time for renders - why do you choose samples?
    Thanks

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад +1

      Because samples are absolute, whereas time is relative to the hardware and your settings. By choosing samples, I'm specifying 'how complete, or how refined' the image is. Whereas with max time, I'm just saying let this render for a specific time and whatever the sample count is by that time, I'll take it. I'd rather be guaranteed a certain level of refinement and just wait for as long as it takes to get there. I hope that makes sense. Good question. Hard thing to answer.

    • @muhaY-vb5vp
      @muhaY-vb5vp 2 года назад

      using samples make the render more consistent if you want to patch the images with lot of changes with region render so you can patch your main image render without re-render whole images

  • @jorgenunez841

    Great tutorial will. It seems I always learn something new from your tutorials. I have a big question do you know how I can render plants and make them look realistic.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад +1

      Thanks. As I'm sure you can guess, it there are a few approaches. It really depends on the image textures you have and how detailed the model is. Those two things dictate how you set up the materials in KeyShot. It would be a fun video to do, but I'm not sure I'm up for making a plant model and corresponding textures. I'd have to show how I use one from a paid site like Turbosquid.

    hey Will, this was really helpful tutorial, a question i had regarding the same was, is there a reason you go for downloaded textures instead of amending the ones already present in keyshot using the MG, are downloaded textures generally more refined for them to be of greater utility?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад +1

      I use whatever texture will best fit my need. You won't find textures for very specific items like the leaves of the plant here or the wood. KeyShot has some good textures, but in this case, they didn't match the vision I had for my image.

    is it just me or does the squares in the mesh only appear under box mapping type instead of will's planar?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  2 года назад +1

      You may need to click on the surface to position the mesh in a planar fashion in planar mode.

  • @vorhese

    Been following your tutorials, teaching old dog new tricks, thanks so much. I'm running into a problem every time I add the mesh it's stripes, not a grid and I cant figure out why. Any ideas? I should add that if I keep the mapping as "box" it initially works, but when I select "planar" it becomes stripes.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад

      It's projecting to the wrong plane I assume. Planar can be projected normal to the x, y or z axis. If they're looking like stripes, they're probably projecting normal to the edge of the plane (which has no thickness). Try clicking 'move texture' in the texture properties and rotate it 90 degrees in either direction and it should help.

    Great stuff Will, I learned a lot through this series. 400 samples seems like it would take way too long for an interior animation. I'd be curious what approach to take to bring the frame render time down but still maintain acceptable levels of noise and brightness/exposure.

    • @ivanloewen
      @ivanloewen 4 года назад

      Just to add to this, do additional physical lights add to render time? I've seen comments from other rendering software that using only environment lighting will help keep it fast. Not sure if the HDRI environment lights can be manipulated enough for an interior scene...?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  4 года назад

      Yes, more physical lights will slow down a scene. To what extent, I'm not certain. 400 samples may seem like a lot, but for most of my client work, I'm doing 60 sec. animations at 1200 samples at either 1080p or 4K. I unfortunately have to rent time on a render farm to make this happen. Just a reality of rendering and this software. You can rely more heavily on the denoiser and render with fewer samples. Or, render it so everything is noisy, and use a plugin like Lenscare by Frischluft and remove noise in post. Finally, you can try GPU mode if you have good GPUs.

    • @ivanloewen
      @ivanloewen 4 года назад

      Wow, yeah, thanks for the input. I've got a new workstation on order which will greatly help my situation but it's true, at some point I'll exceed even that. The exponential math is real. What render farm would you recommend?

    I am a woodworker who need help getting my Fusion360 cabinets to appear in photorealistic renderings, for marketing and sales purposes. I am a noob at rendering.
    I have been using Fusion360 to build cabinets. I usually design kitchens in Fusion360, then nest the cabinet components and have a CNC machine cut out the cabinets.
    Is it possible to render entire kitchens in Keyshot after laying out exact positions of kitchen cabinets in Fusion360?
    If so, which file type should I export to Keyshot for a high-quality photorealistic rendering?

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  3 года назад

      Sure, it’s possible. It’s not any different than if you were rendering just a single item, like a chair.
      A step file is what I prefer to work with. That said, you can install and use the Fusion360 KeyShot plug-in. This way you’ll be able to click a button in Fusion360 and send the mode right into KeyShot
