      I don't know what an add 9 is but I can play it by ear if I listen to it, it's not really that hard to figure out a chord, can't your hear the notes ringing? How do you play music? you can't hear the harmony? Is it all memorised?You don't need to know the name, is the sound and the feeling that you need to know.I actually know many jazz musicians who don't even know the chords, or theory, but damn sure they can play them and improvise over them.
      But the jazz musicians that I love, never went to school or university, or wherever the fuck they teach music.
      How do you teach feeling in school anyway? 😂
      I love Jazz and there are very few school taught jazz musicians that I actually like to hear and learn from.

      Just add the ninth note on the scale of the root note while putting in mind that there are only seven notes in a scale therefore you just keep on going till you reach the ninth note eg CDEFGAB then go on to CD D on the next octave is the ninth note so following the major scale formula (1,3,5) which is CEG add your ninth note D and there you have it play a CEGD note that the D must be an octave higher.

    • @brokenkledonetrickchalleng735
      @brokenkledonetrickchalleng735 3 года назад +1

      @@DaddySantaClaus that might work for some people but for others theory is very helpful. in my example, if i have something in my head or hear something and try to play it and dont get it right away i immediately loose it and cant try again except if i hear it again. but practicing ear training and also learning all the theory helps me to expand. for example if i have a cool chord progression i can figure out a fitting scale or alternate chords depending on what kind of feel i want to bring across. i wouldnt have been able to (or better put wouldnt have dared) to try it without knoeing the theory. so i'd say it works for some people with theory and some without. in the end it only matters that its fun to play

    The inner struggle of a Jazz guitarist wanting to play Metal, and a Metal player wanting to play Jazz. But you can play both, I listen to Jazz players and play it in a Metal way. Music should not have boundaries the way Jazz has. Oh and some of the top Metal players know music theory and have studied music. I myself when in my teens had 5 years of music theory class, and I have been playing 49 years of a Rock, Metal, and Jazz Fusion style.

    But you can't compare modern day metal to all this...
    Classic metal was very much complex.

    • @HyenaFox
      @HyenaFox 5 лет назад +3

      Not really. Jazz as a genre is the very beginning of people pushing the complexity levels of music. The jazz era was when people really started to use the most complex stuff possible that pushes the limits of what's even learnable in music theory. Metal has never really been that. I mean, NOW, in the past like 2 decades, we have metal genres which incorporate a lot more technical, complex, and jazz-like stuff into them, sort of like what progressive rock is to rock, where it's rock but with a jazzy twist and experimental edge. But yeah, you're unlikely to find anything on that level in most metal. And you'll probably never find a metal song EVER which uses all of the chords in Giant Steps.

    • @velkeltregaming8665
      @velkeltregaming8665 4 года назад
