and thats the reason I think its better to call that piece as minister instead of queen. Since any servant can rise to ranks of a minister if he/she works hard. Since queen means someone should be royal. And its not possible to become royal unless you are born so. At least thats what I learnt after watching medieval tv shows about kings and queens
Man.. The whole series, and especially this one was just so concise and clear. Broad but detailed enough to adequately cover the topic, even in such a rapid-fire format, and without any junk or baggage to distract from key principles. Dense with potent insight. Consistent in principle, and I actually managed to retain it. Thanks so much!! Excellent video!
What an amazing teacher. I just saw everything that I do wrong. I knew I was too aggressive with my queen but I found 3other flaws. 1)I move more than once before the 10th move. 2) I undervalued my King in the end. 3) I make little or no effort to get a pawn across. I just learned so much :)
@@paulcrooks3876 Typically in high level play, black plays to draw, not win, although there are exceptions and there are (many) times white makes a mistake and black is able to seize the advantage and win.
Wow! Thanks for uploading this series. I was that 90%, started learning playing on the computer via trial and error, so I did not progress very far. Always felt like there was something missing in chess--basically I did not know the principles/purpose/goal (besides checkmating) of chess. But I was good enough to be in a position where the cpu kept marching its pawns to promotion, but I was too dumb to use that same strategy. I'll revisit chess sometime soon.
I've played quite a bit of chess (never took formal lessons or anything) and this just blew my mind how simple the end game becomes when you understand the dynamics between pawn and king

I'm watching this at x1.5 speed, because watching a video for 15 minutes offering me the collected wisdom of generations of chess theorists is just not good enough for me.
For the example given at 13:24 how is white defenseless against the pawn 2 on 1? After h5 can't the king go F1? Then g5, kg2, h4, white take h4, black take h4, then king to h3 blocking the outside pawn? What am I missing?
@sugmc he said that when black moved the king to one of those squares, white then moves its king to the square to the diagonal of balck's, thus protecting the pawn and forcing promotion.
wouldnt it be easier to define the end gme by how many points a player has on the board? for example if 1 player has 12 points worth of piece left on the board its the end gme.
Nice video. Thanks I have a problem, and maybe you can help me out. I cant play on a real chess board anymore. I get lost and cant keep track of what is happening in front of me . I think it is because I spent years plating it on my phone and tablet/laptop. Is there a solution you can suggest me please? I tried force playing on board and still .. lol
Could you make a series on how to win on black. If I played someone know all of this as I do him/her being white gives them a great advantage so how do I win as black knowing white knows all that I know. I'm all your examples white was victorious
I've been so frustrated with modern play. No one knows how to play an endgame. A statistical advantage is not an actual win. Being able to capture the king is the end of the game. A piece and a chair, to paraphrase poker, is all you need. The statistics of a perfectly played game does not represent a person with a momentary piece advantage and no endgame, and it does not equate a victory.

Wait does that mean that the king has all girls for pawns??

Why doesn’t the king take the pawn on f7 when moving to assist the pass pawn? Why go through the pawn structure?
Number calculation is good for end game.
Nice Videos .. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
brilliant.
This was a great series!
very helpful
It seems that you should consider a trade down into an endgame each turn as the game goes on.
at 6:30 is the immediate win because the black resigns?
Really helped a lott...
10:04 what would you do after this to win though?
In the scenario at 4:00 why can’t the black king move to the right in order to block the white kings advance towards the black pawns?
Nevermind it’s blocking the pawn from progressing forward
6:20, why wouldn't the king take the pawn on f 7 on it's journey to protect the pawn?
I wondered that too. Obviously doesn't make a difference to the strategy, but I don't see a point in avoiding taking material if it's available
great advice 👍

Just defend every attack and think behind every step white makes. Wait for blunders.
