Please keep covering this, Brodie. There are still a lot of developments coming and you have been the major source of news, insight, and analysis of this travesty for so many of us.
Brodie I work at the Oakland Coliseum and for the last two years your right there are ushers, security, engineers, custodians, front office people, reporters, TV production crew, East Oakland businesses, and a long line of employees will be out of work or lose business. Fisher should have let the Howard Terminal deal play out before relocating. He and the Commissioner most likely got together on this to get out of Oakland and you see the results. Just hoping for a miracle from the Schools over Stadiums initiative in Nevada.
One of the team store manager i spoke to said he started working there since 1968 since they moved to Oakland. Another lady who works in that store for 30 years. Dedication working folks and sad how this is ending like this.
@@samuelclayton08 I can also speak to that, also being from and still living in Brooklyn... And yes my father was a big fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers... And it still hurts him. I heard about it a lot from him growing up...
@@samuelclayton08 and to follow up... There is one big difference... At least the way my father described it... The way he described it, it was like it happened overnight... Basically, the night started all was good... the next day they were gone... I don't know the exact timing, but that's how it felt to my father...
I just want to thank you for your A’s coverage over the years, Brodie. I’ve been an A’s fan since tee ball. They were my first team, Jose Canseco was my first favorite player. Can’t say I didn’t see this day coming. But… it still… sucks. Sorry to all the Oakland A’s fans and just Oakland sports fans in general. There never is, was or will be anything crowd, tailgate party or community of fans quite like ones in Oakland, California.
Yeah a kick ass team I believe that Jose Canseco will never live for long; yet he expose the steroid scandal, the killer for Jose will be a family member of a world leader, Jose Canseco is the Ronald Goldman, the killer is the OJ Simpson and his uncle’s nickname is BiBi and calls Jose Canseco a liar, some people will say the law is on God’s favor because Jose’s killer gets away with murder. This will be strange at least you end up with Palestinian Americans holding a sign that says JUSTICE FOR JOSE! For a reason why Jose Canseco’s future killer gets away with murder and the observer who saw this goes to death penalty.
I majored in journalism because of you and your coverage of this team. They might not care about us but we care about you Brodie! Please keep covering this if you can!
They didn't care about the fans? Have you been paying attention? Like I have for over 2 years now. What about when the A's submitted a term sheet WELL before the deadline for it to be voted on? City of Oakland threw it out, created their own term sheet and voted on that one. How about the Port group that tried to sue the team for use of Howard Terminal? There is no doubt about it. Oakland bucked every step of the way. I slightly blame the politicians in office. I say slightly because who put those politicians in office? The people of Oakland
As a New Yorker and a fan of MLB baseball, my heart goes out to the Oakland and other Bay Area fans on the loss of one of its storied sports franchises, the Oakland A’s! I will sorely miss seeing the colorful fans at the Coliseum playing their festive music and displaying their colorful signs and banners while cheering on their hometown team while playing my hometown Yankees. Also what will be missed was that spectacular view you once had of the mountains beyond the outfield seats prior to the addition of the “Al Davis seats” in the 1990’s that were typical of the California stadiums of lore. Thanks Brodie for your passionate and thoughtful podcasts covering this very important topic over the past several months of Bay Area Sports.
Texas Rangers fan here - my wife and I attended a game in Oakland in July where the Rangers played the A's. I do want to say how friendly the A's fans were to us, and we had a good time (even though the Rangers lost that day). I feel for all of the Oakland fans, I'm sorry this is happening.
Which game did you go to? I went to the game Scherzer started. Chilled in the upper outfield seats with my kids. That was my second game of the year, ended up going to 5 more. I'll probably go to 25 or 30 next season, especially if they announce they're leaving.
Heartbroken. Sad. Disillusioned. I was at game 4 of the 72 Series, and game 7 of the 73 Series, and I had tickets to the 74 Series game that never needed to be played by the dominating A’s. Great memories, tarnished by today’s news. Fisher’s letter to the fans today says that he’s been focused on “developing a new privately financed stadium” since 2005. Hogwash. Some “focus.” He wanted the public to pay for it all along. He doesn’t care about Oakland. Thanks John. Good riddance.
Just want to say thank you Brodie for covering the A’s all these years. All this just feels like my heart has been stepped on repeatedly. First with the raiders and now with the A’s. I’m grateful to be able watch the A’s in the good and bad. Growing up in East Oakland, I was involved around bad crowds and did a lot of things I regret but coming to the A’s game was a like a place I can go and get away from the violence. I fell in love with the game and the A’s. If it wasn’t for the A’s being here in Oakland, I probably wouldn’t be here today or be the man I am today. I still have a slither a hope they’ll stay and I’m not giving up till the shovels are in the ground. #oaklandforever
I saw this coming, but this is going to be a massive disaster for the MLB and Vegas if Fisher refuses to invest further into the team. Where will the A’s even play after the 24/25 season? - No stadium deal has been made yet. - Funding hasn’t been fully secured. - No legitimate renders. This whole thing seems so rushed with little thought on the side of Fisher and the MLB.
Unless there amount of revenue coming in is huge the city of Oakland should tell Fisher to take a flying leap at a rolling donut after next season; and if he tries to immediately walk for this coming season (is Fisher even that stupid to try?), then they need to sue him in court for breach of contract.
This dude has shown zero interest in investing in that team. MLB should force a sale of that franchise to someone who actually cares about their business. Fisher is a joke.
I think former players should stay away and totally ignore and shun everything about the A’s until they return to Oakland. No A’s fan should go to any games to show their solidarity.
Lol not going to happen… how delusional are u? There will be fans that’s still go.. it’s a baseball team in Las Vegas, who wouldn’t go? Lol people from Oakland, that’s bout it lol
@@gamerealm4337 Who wouldn’t go to a baseball game in Las Vegas?!?!?! I go to Vegas 3-4 times a year and I have never thought that my Vegas vacations would hav been better if there was a baseball game to attend. Going to a baseball game during a Vegas vacation would be a complete waste of vacation time for me, as I live in SoCal and can attend a baseball game any time I want. I go to Vegas to experience what I can’t easily experience in SoCal (or in some cases, experiences I can’t enjoy anyplace outside of Vegas). Tens of millions ofctoyriss travel to Vegas evrey year, so it is only obvious that not havbg a major league baseball team hasn’t had any effect on tourists traveling to Vegas. Actually, wih a AAA team in Vegas, it will be interesting to see if the A’s can draw more to their much higher priced games than the Aviators draw.
SoCal resident growing up, but a die hard Oakland Raiders fan. My heart broke when they left. Never been to an A’s game until this year 2023, when I met my gf who was born and raised Bay Area. The amount of love & warm welcoming we received, I have never experienced that at a professional game. Every employee made our experience that much better and it maybe old but the coliseum felt like home. It’s like I came back home after a long time. Blessed to see 3 wins this year live and I’m going to miss that place. So so much. That pain has returned and I’m sorry Oakland. You deserve better. Forever Oakland 💚
I'm happy you had a great experience at those games. It's a culture the fans had that will never be duplicated from the drums, the signs and chants we had for our for our players. Even the walk-off pie tradition. I hope Fisher regrets moving like Davis said because it's never a home game for the Raiders.
I live in Vegas and hoped, hoped for the A's to reach a deal with Oakland. For their fans, for the history of the organization, for baseball. This has to be painful for A's fans and I am sorry. Thank you Brodie for your continuous coverage and helping people understand what is and has happened during this move. Much love for you Brodie and all A's fans! Thank you!
Millions and generations of A's fans from the Bay Area to the Central Valley were considered expendable by the MLB owners for Vegas which has a smaller population and smaller media market. Since that's how they view us, I'm done with MLB altogether. I'll always cherish my memories from the A's games I attended.
The A's belong in Oakland. As a Twins fan, I am completely embarrassed by Jim Pohlad's comments. Especially after his family tried to relocate or contract the team less than a decade after winning the World Series (so of course he would be in support of Fisher).
The Twins had a stadium issue just like the A's now they first wanted a new ballpark in 1994 it took 16 years from then until the first pitch at Target Field in 2010
Your emotion towards this situation as a bay area kid - who has been a fan of this team. Is relatable and I am thankful for it. At this point, the only thing we can do as fans is voice our disappointment to the clouds and reminisce on the good times of old. For the generations that were around to see it happen. The 70s teams who got hardware seemingly every year. That late 80s team who back 3-peat to the world series and had to deal with the most catastrophic natural disaster in known history at the time. To those 2000s teams that were underpowered but lovable and they played well together. Us one comma folks will never understand the "struggle" of the three-comma clan. But we know the vice-versa is true as well.
Damn. Oakland had many years to fix this stadium issue or at least figure something out. The whole thing was avoidable from the jump. NIMBYs, cheap ownership, bankruptcy in Oakland. The whole situation is sad.
While Brodie cries about Oakland losing the A's, not one tear has dropped down his cheeks when other cities have LOST their baseball teams, major or minor league... There have been far too many LOST teams....
@@ronclark9724I’ve never been to Oakland and I have been following the story here. Brodie works for NBC sports Bay Area so why wouldn’t he cover this??? This isn’t about any particular city. It’s about history, and future childhood memories that will be taken from the future generations.
Brodie speaking for myself, I need you to keep going. We all need a place to go with other A’s fans so we can vent and share our emotions and stories. It will keep the Oakland A’s alive in spirit and body.
I can’t imagine how you feel right now- I am SO rattled right now. I have been through this professionally where my company relocated a site that was in Sacramento for 80 years to perceptively greener, cheaper pastures which have been anything but. And the rich people that did that got their payout and are long gone. So this is like that all over again- corporate games to enrich deeper pockets. But please keep speaking out- you, Casey, the Oakland68’s, Last Dive Bar, all of those ordinary people that hold down regular jobs and spend their money to fight for what is right….I am SO inspired, so proud and so grateful to be so amazingly represented.
Thank you for everything that you've put into the Oakland A's and for making this accessible for so many people. I'm a Diamondbacks fan but I found your channel around 2019 or so and have been greatly impacted by your work and dedication to this fanbase, I now have a soft spot for the A's. Since finding your channel, I've made two trips to the Coliseum from Arizona and have fallen in love with the unity and resolve of this community. No matter what happens from here on out, just know that there are so many people like myself who appreciate what you do and your love for the game. We will always support this channel and will remember what you have done for us. Because of you, I will support Oakland until the very end. I am absolutely gutted for the city and A's fans everywhere. Today is such a terrible day for baseball. #OaklandForever
Brodie - I’m a Toronto-based Blue Jays fan who’s never had any particular connection to the A’s, nor do I have any reason to feel particularly invested in the relocation saga. That said, over the last few months (years?) I have become an avid follower of your videos, and have come to really appreciate - and look forward to - your analysis and commentary. While I can only imagine how deeply Thursday’s news cuts for a lifelong fan like yourself, I truly hope you will continue to make these videos. As a Jays fan who watched (from arm’s length) how the Expos were ripped from Montreal under somewhat-similar circumstances, but who now struggles to remember the nuance of exactly how things unfolded, I’m comforted to know A’s fans will at least have - in your videos - a thorough, thoughtful and real-time analysis of this tragic period in Oakland sports history.
Same. I’m a diehard Giants fan and an A’s supporter. Reflecting on how the A’s saved the Giants and how the Giants turned their back completely on the A’s and Rob Manfred’s leadership has soured my baseball fandom. Cheered both teams side by side for 30 years
Thank you Brodie. I've watched you for years on the pre/post game shows. Hung out at the Treehouse during the last runs of success, drinking in the joy of being lost in the Town's fandom. You've made this process livable for me, giving voice to the voiceless, making such professional commentary publicly available. I'll be interested to see if you get to keep broadcasting for the team or if consequences for your honesty arise. This whole debacle is far from wrapping up so I'm confident we'll rely on your voice going forward if you're still able and willing to dedicate so much of your time. Many thanks & much respect.
Thanks for everything, Brodie! I've loved watching you throughout the years cover the team. I'm truly heartbroken, and I'm so very angry. Everything you said in your video was on point. I'm in mourning, and I've already started boxing up my collectibles, art, and gear I've collected over the years. I might even cover up my A's tattoo. Right now, there's sharpie ink with an X over it. As I try to find meaning in the news, I'm grateful for the memories. The A's and baseball in general brought me such great joy in my lifetime. Heck, I've visited half of the stadiums, Cooperstown, and spring training twice. But today, I must say goodbye to baseball, my A's, and MLB forever!
As someone who has covered the Angels for three years, it will be very strange to know the Angels will not be visiting Oakland in the not so distant future. My condolences to people whose fandom died today, and so did a piece of their childhood and life.
@@ronclark9724 Yeah, but Vegas won't be as passionate as the Oakland fans. Just watch Raider games at Allegiant. The visiting team's fans tend to outnumber the home team's most ot the time. Vegas is no different than L.A. or Phoenix where you have many transplants from other cities and they tend to keep supporting their hometown team rather than support the team of their new city.
Brodie, stand tall, You were the bright light through all this darkness.... Fisher is a joke...I might now quit being a A's fan because I can't support a owner who doesn't care.
Brodie - I’ve followed your YT channel for a few years. As someone born/ raised in Northern California & rooted for the Giants I also attended several A’s games in the early 90s having fond memories. Now as an adult living in the Seattle area (since the late 90s) & as a Mariners fan, I truly am heartbroken for Oakland Athletics fan base. We know the emotion & pain you feel as the NBA’s SuperSonics left for Oklahoma in 2008. I truly hope that the City of Oakland can fight for the Athletics brand name & history & that a group in the Bay Area investors can pull together to bid for an MLB expansion team along with a renewal of the HT ballpark site.
The history of the team and brand doesn't belong to Oakland, since the team started as the Philadelphia A's (1901-1954). This marks as the teams third move.
I think the way pro sports vacated Oakland is just stunning. It’s happened so fast. We’ve seen teams relocate. It happens. We haven’t seen a city just wiped off the map of pro sports. It really takes Oakland off the map as a distinct entity on the national stage. It’s much more than just a relocation.
This. It was one thing for the Warriors to needlessly move across the bridge (and no longer Bartable for the masses in the East Bay), another for the notoriously broke Mark Davis to move to Vegas when given a huge fortune, now the final straw has dropped. Oakland and the East Bay is no longer a viable Pro Sports market. It's a really sad day for the East Bay economy and civic pride.
@@KevtfWhat do you mean the Warriors are no longer bartable for the masses in the east bay? Oracle and Chase were designed around public transportation. You take BART to Powell and you take the muni Central Subway right to the front of Chase center. I also wouldn't say that the East Bay is no longer a viable Pro Sports Market. It's Oakland itself that is no longer a viable market and hasn't been for a long time now. The sports teams exist in the bigger cities and Oakland is the biggest city in the east bay.
@@soccerty1214 Yes you can technically Bart to Powell and then Walk 25 mins there or wait for a connecting Muni bus to get there, but what used to be a 20min Bart ride door to door for most folks now takes 1.5-2hrs. It's actually faster for most folks along the 680 corridor to drive to a Kings game. Not only that, but you don't have to take Bart through SF and Oakland stations back home after games ending at 10pm! Bart is notoriously sketchy in the SF and Oak stations at night. It's one thing to leave from the Coliseum and go back to Fremont or Dublin/Pleasanton directly. It's another thing to have to go through Embarcadero, West Oakland, Fruitvale, Coliseum, Bay Fair, Rockridge/Ashby around midnight. All of which are considered some of the most active crime stations by Bart Police.
I know we've seen this coming but I'm especially disappointed in the Giants owner. This was voted thru unanimously. I wonder what kind of leverage Oakland lost in all of this with the possibility of the A's playing games in SF. Who stands up for the actual fans but US? Do they even care about the fans because I seriously doubt it. We did everything in our power and to feel like MLB just spat in our faces it makes me not want to support Major League Baseball any longer. I fell in love the Oakland A's as an 80's baby watching the bash bros dominate the league. We have all been on this rollercoaster in hopes of one day having a better stadium and in turn a better team with players we actually kept. For Fisher to be rewarded by the commissioner and MLB owners is flat out unforgivable. I know its not entirely over yet and we have proven Oakland fans never give up and we won't start now. Praying for a miracle...
@@tigertank06 We don’t know how many people are on support for bill there going to be people that vote against the the bill since there being payed like always for select bills they pay them off to vote against the bill.
Man brodie has been covering this for years! What an era for this channel and for the organization of the athletics, y’all really fought the good fight!
Next season Oakland fans should follow this up with a real boycott of all 81 home games with tailgate parties and protests outside the Coliseum. Let's see if the fans can drive the A's attendance down to zero. Also, boycott the televised games. I don't know if Fisher's TV revenue is based on viewership, but if so, just change the channel. Also, support Schools Over Stadiums by making contributions to their efforts. Fisher should be made to pay a heavy price.
I would really enjoy the organizations who worked so hard to save the Athletics start reaching out to all 29 other fan bases and explain, if it can happen to Oakland it can happen to you. The only way to get MLB's attention is to organize a boycott of all 29 games for a season. If the attendance drops to an average of 10,000 fans a game, that will get the owner's attention.
I stopped watching baseball, altogether, because of what John Fisher has done to the A’s and Oakland. I will NOT transfer my love for the Athletics to Las Vegas or to any other team, because of what the Commissioner and the baseball owners have done to Oakland and its fans. Baseball owners make their money of the loyalty of its fans, but they keep slapping us in the face and enough is enough. Brodie, I have watched your coverage for the past 6 months and I truly appreciate everything you have done to keep the fans informed and give us a voice. I have not watched a baseball game in 10 years because I lost my love for the game. Baseball has been ruined by the baseball owners and now the wisdom of my choice has been confirmed - I have not missed anything because the game is still great but the BUSINESS of baseball has ruined it at the professional level. Thank you, again and keep on covering sports; you do an excellent job.
I'm from upstate New York, and my heart breaks for Oakland. 😭💔 This is the most despicable, ridiculous, and greedy move I think I've ever seen by professional sports owners. It is an absolute travesty that they've completely shrugged off the fans...the very people who've made them who they are... and have approved something that literally NO ONE wants! Not even Las Vegas. I can only imagine how A's fans feel right now. If this move does happen, I sincerely hope that Oakland gets its expansion club. Thank you for covering this Brodie. I've been following from the beginning, and I will continue to.
Love you, Brodie. Thank you for tireless work on this entire saga. Not only did you provide years of important insight to the situation, you also helped me process the grief of losing my team. I think the driving force behind the unanimous vote, and I think you alluded to it in another video, is that it gives other owners leverage to extort cities for the cost of stadium improvements.
My heart is broken for my hometown right now!!!! I hope MLB is ready to deal with the backlash, not just from A's fans, but from Baseball fans ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Brodie, this whole ordeal drew me to your channel, and you gained a subscriber in the process. Your emotion was totally felt and shared in this video.
The fact that they can vote yes without all the details is telling. The owners almost had to vote yes because Fisher is “one of their own.” But if the info doesn’t come in or it comes in and it looks bad….it will make everyone look so bush League.
@@Enginshim the unanimity is simple. Nobody wanted to be seen as the one who was against it because if they ever wanted to relocate in the future it could backfire
I struggle to resolve the "it's just a business, it's only business" with you and I should be loyal enthusiastic fans who buy merch, season tickets. Disillusioned, yep.
Brodie, I have watched every one of your videos covering the As situation. This is the first time I have ever commented. Heartbroken is the best term to describe today. Born in the San Pablo East bay, moved up north past Sacramento. Went to A’s games every year, die hard loyal fan. I can say now I am done watching MLB. The corruption is to strong and knowing that MLBs interest is not the fans I can no longer support. Lot of trolls that are not informed and say what they want to say but at the end of the day they will forget this situation in a short time. This will live with die hard Oakland fans forever. Thank you for everything Brodie!
I’m sorry Brodie that this happened to the A’s I was on foul territory and just thought about what you were thinking about the whole thing and feels like a kick in the guts that MLB let all the history of Oakland disappear with this move to Vegas. Hopefully MLB will bring an expansion team back to Oakland in the future.
No expansions team will go to Oakland until the city of Oakland gets their act together they are to blame for everything going on in Oakland I don’t blame John fisher one bit for moving. Because of the corrupt government in Oakland
As a East Bay D-Backs fan who left the A’s in 2017 (due to the Grienke signing which wasn’t great but showed me a team who was willing to spend), everything about this seems soulless. Instead of being what the Padres are to San Diego, the A’s choose to be the 3rd/4th priority in a city already with an NHL and NFL teams taking center stage, and a NBA team on the way. Or instead of choosing to stay in NorCal to keep the Oakland A’s fanbase and build one in Sacramento/San Jose. And all for a stadium that will be fucked in not 25, not 20… in 15 years.
Fisher’s letter to fans was ridiculous. He hobbled the team from the get go. I am a true OAKLAND A’s fan forever but if the move actually happens, I will never wear my jerseys again. John Fisher deserves zero respect and his team will not find a fan base in Las Vegas.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for Bay Area fans. These videos will live on as a chronicle of the stab in the back of A’s fans by MLB, Selig, Manfred, Wolff, Fisher and Kaval. To approve this move with no idea where the team will play after they leave the Colosseum, no renderings of what the Vegas stadium will look like, no TV deal in Vegas and no real enthusiasm in Vegas for this move will end any fandom for baseball for a lot of people. These baseball teams are just toys for billionaires that care nothing for the people that pay to watch their product.
@@ronclark9724 Oakland raised more money than Vegas for a stadium build. They also secured more land than the nine acres in a hotel parking lot in Vegas. Brodie has plenty of videos that illustrate these points better than I could. This was a rushed process that allows Fisher to get some free land on the Vegas strip and allows him to stay on revenue sharing.
I appreciate everything you’ve provided. I’ve been an A’s fan almost 40 years now living in Philly. Seeing how folks don’t necessarily see the nefarious way MLB has handled this. I got that letter from Fisher in my email and it was an extra kick in the gut.
Here in St. Louis, especially those of us former Rams fans who paid attention to this process, are empathetic. And as baseball my personal favorite sport, growing up in the early 90s seeing the A’s on national television, I know Oakland is a great market. I’m not even mad at this point, I’m just really sad over everything.
Jim Pohlad tried to get the Twins contracted 20 years ago in order to get a big payout. It makes total sense to me that he would make such idiotic comments about the A's situation.
I'm so sorry to all the fans in Oakland I'm from stl losing the rams was horrible so I know the feeling, Oakland is a great sports town they deserve better

Thank you Brodie for mentioning those who have passed and who were apart of the A’s organization. That is history. I can only imagine what they would say about all of this.
Coming from a braves fan ..really feel bad for you guys and the city of Oakland as a whole ...you got a raw deal from mlb ....great stuff as always brodie 💯...your truly one of the greats 👍🏾good luck ...hope you get expansion at some point ..
I am a Cardinals fan that has lived in Northern California all my life. In response to this unanimous vote today I will not buy ANY MLB merchandise this Christmas. I believe we should start a PR campaign to boycott MLB merchandise to show solidarity with Oakland A's fans.
Brodie, never stop doing what you do. Period. Been an A's fan since seeing Vida Blue pitch in the old Yankee Stadium during his magical year of 1971. MLB should be ashamed of themselves. Total rubber stamp move by the owners promulgated by their shill, Manfred. Brace yourselves, Las Vegas, if you think that suddenly Fisher is going to open up the coffers to improve the product on the field. He's become too accustomed to getting revenue sharing relief (aka bailed out) by his fellow owners. A very, very sad day . . .
That's exactly what is going to happen. John Fisher will see the team move and just before the first pitch in spring training 2028, he will take his money and run.
I appreciate you so much Brodie, for all of the hard work you’ve put in keeping us all informed on this stadium saga. Like many East Bay natives I feel like a part of my soul has been ripped out of me. Spreading much love to all of us OAKLAND A’s fans 💚💛
My big sister worked at a Fox affiliate in DC 30 years ago. Even then, news was "If it bleeds, it leads." Clickbait. Brodie, you have been calm, reasoned, and a journalist. No BS. I have followed you on this story because I trust that you will get it right. I am a Baltimore area native and was a kid when The Colts left. The pain never fully fades.
As a Vegas native who wanted this to happen (kinda...preferred expansion team) but I do feel for the people of Oakland, and long time A's fans in the area
Brodie, I understand how you feel. Growing up with a team, going to games with your dad, living the heart breaks and triumphs with your team, then watching them flip the middle finger as they skip town for a deal that's lesser than the one they could have had if they stayed, it's a heart breaker and I feel for you and all Oakland A's fans. That said, I hope every A's fan in the East Bay remembers that the vote was unanimous, meaning that the Giants flipped the middle finger to Oakland A's fans too.
The unanimous vote is so telling. The owners are are just circling the wagons protecting their own greedy interests. The other 29 owners couldn't care less if the team succeeds or fails in Vegas.
@@andy_182 The point is that they don't care what's best for the league, which in the long term is what is best for them. Instead they are all protecting their own individual, short term interests. Watch Brodie's video about how some smart owners prevented the Giants from going to Tampa in '92. I think it's safe to say that they made the 100% correct long-term call there that ultimately benefited the league as a whole, not just the Giants. The events described in that video would never happen now because no owner wants to make a move that would curtail their own "rights" to act like a spoiled child.
The owners voted to keep the A's on the receiving end of perpetual revenue sharing. Vegas is a small media market. A new stadium helps, but they'll still struggle to stay competitive with players salary. It'll be same shit, different city...
@@seanmiles6991 When MLB have been twisting minor league cities to build new stadiums and upgrading their clubhouses, why did you think the MLB wouldn't do likewise with MLB cities? I recall Amarillo losing their Gold Sox and live in the wilderness without affiliated minor league baseball for 38 years. Not until Amarillo did build a new stadium did affiliated minor league baseball return... If Oakland fans want Major League Baseball to return, BUILD A NEW STADIUM. If you build it, they will come...GO SODDIES!
Thank you for all of the great coverage. Best anywhere I have seen. I hope you continue to cover this as the ballot initiative is still in play. The only chance left is if losing public funding changes the equation.
Brodie, keep up your comentary. I really appreciate it. As a life long Phillies fan, born and raised there, I could never imagine how it would feel for them to move. And , hell, I moved!! In 1984 I moved to Montana. But I am still an avid fan. Of the Phillies, and baseball in general. You are a good man. People care about what you have to say. Keep up the great work , if you feel that in your heart. Take care, friend!
A kick to the gut and stomped on. I Was there on opening day in 68. A lifelong A,s fan even while being deployed overseas in the 70s through thick and thin. This is painful. I knew it was coming. Stopped my season tickets last year, just couldn’t take the abuse anymore from ownership. Loved my A’s. Need some time to find out whether my number one sport (Baseball) will still live inside my heart. Keep up the good work Brodie. I will hold out the faith till shovels are in the ground and this was a big step in leaving Oakland. Long live the Oakland 68’s!
Lifelong A's fan here. Went to my first game in 1987 when I was in Kindergarten, got to walk on the field and meet the players, and I've been a die hard fan since. After today's announcement, I'm done. Not just with the A's, but with MLB all together. The fact that they took a look at everything both locations can offer, and they look at the almost 20 year history of Fischer screwing the fans and city of Oakland, and then they side with him for what will go down as the worst move MLB has ever made...I just can't imagine continuing to support this franchise or league moving forward. My only hope is Barbara Lee goes after MLB's anti-trust exemption and they owners collectively get fucked.
This is so sad… I am in my 50’s and I literally grew up on the A’s. My first favorite player was/is Ricky Henderson. To be honest I have followed the A’s and the S.F. Giants for years, but my “team” has always been the A’s. I, for one, will not be following the A’s to the Vegas; not if they remain under this ownership. My problem is not with my beloved Green & Gold, it with the ownership. I will probably attend a couple games during the 2024 year, but after that I’m done… LET’S GO OAKLAND!!!
I am very sorry for all the Oakland A's fans. I am a life long Dodgers and Angels fan. I worked for the Angels for four years in ticketing. I know I would hate life if one of them pulled up and left the market. I went through this with the Rams and Raiders. It took 22 years for the Rams to return. I am grateful for that! This is HELL. I hope that the A's fail miserably in Vegas. I don't think the market will support them and they may be looking for a new home in 10-15 years. I hope John Fisher has trouble sleeping at night but he probably won't !!
Thank you Brodie, for keeping us informed on the developments in regards to the A's, Howard Terminal and now, Las Vegas. Our family and friends had Oakland A's season tickets from 1969-95. Great times, great teams, great memories. We also had Oakland/California Golden Seals season tickets. The Seals relocated to Cleveland in 1976. We did not follow the Seals once they became the Cleveland Barons. So, now all teams in all four major professional sports leagues, will have left Oakland. However, I still say, I blame Bud Selig for not allowing the A's to relocate to San Jose. At least the A's would still be in the Bay Area. How many A's fans will be following the team, once they are playing home games in Las Vegas? How well will the A's draw in Las Vegas? It is a sad day for Oakland A's fans. Now, I can relate to Montreal Expos fans.
I'm a Giants fan, but unlike the old days, I've been feeling for local A's fans. In any case, I'm pretty sure this is gonna backfire SPECTACULARLY. It may be easy for the Raiders to sell tickets and fill their stadium with fans of opposing teams, but that's the NFL. That crutch is not nearly as reliable for MLB teams. The A's are about to have the weakest local fanbase in the league, and not enough opposing fans to fill their stadium, let alone with any consistency. Their "home" games are gonna be very sad.
I am mixed on my feelings. I wanted to see Fisher leave but I hoped he would leave without the team. Looks like he will be Vegas’s problem now. I am going to stick around and hope it goes south in another way. If not I am done with baseball. There is no switching teams and no supporting a team that has no chance of ever winning.
Hi Brodie, I’m a 23 year old who can never remember a time when I wasn’t an As fan. I grew up in San Jose and a lot of my classmates were Giants fans. Watching the Giants win 3 in 5 and having to admit that the Giants were better was always painful growing up. I always told myself that one day I would see the As win a championship in my life time since there’s got to be some stat that agrees with that, right? But with one major step closer to relocation, that hope to experiencing winning a World Series in Oakland is slowly being taken away from me. I came to Chicago, for college and am still here for grad school, which has led me to cheer for the Cubs. But even if the Cubs win another World Series or the Vegas As or whatever rebranded team won, I don’t know if I can jump up and down and not know what to do with the excitement that’s running through my body like I’ve been imagining that it would if Oakland would have won. I don’t know if I can celebrate like I would for my first love for a team. Thank you for all of your coverage. I tell my wife that I’m listening to my new friend Brodie all the time and I appreciate everything you have done. I’m mourning for my team 2000 miles away. Sincerely, Adam
Trevor May talked to Casey Pratt a couple of days ago and he said that nobody outside of the ownership group knew what was going on with the relocation. Communication was really non existent between ownership and everyone else in the organization. Trevor May said that he asked people who were above him and he said that they had no answers so if no one outside of ownership knew anything about the relocation plan to Las Vegas then I am not surprised that we, the fans of baseball don’t know anything either. That is a really big issue when you are asking for $380 million in public money. That shows me that John Fisher and Dave Kaval wanted this to happen without any public pushback or inspection whatsoever. They don’t care about the fans or the game of baseball they just care about the all mighty dollar. That’s is a sad fact about all of this. Today sucks as a baseball fan and I am not surprised that this happened. It’s unfortunate but it’s not over yet. We will see what happens in the future. This must be a very difficult time for Oakland A’s fans and for most baseball fans in general. Boycott opening day in 2024 to show the owners that you are not happy about this. And keep on fighting because this is no where near over. Good luck in you fight of keeping the As in Oakland. You still have a chance. Oh and let me say as a Giants fan I give the Giants a lot of blame for this. They are the reason why the A’s couldn’t build a ballpark in San Jose. Now it might not of been Oakland but the A’s would of still been in the San Francisco Bay Area. And what makes the behavior of the Giants organization worse is that when the Giants were on the verge of moving to Saint Petersburg in 1992, the then owners of the A’s Walter Hass gave up the A’s territorial rights to the South Bay in order to help keep the Giants in San Francisco. However when the A’s wanted to build a ballpark in San Jose they basically kicked the A’s fans in the teeth and they did it again today. I have had enough of this. Lastly I would just like to say thank you for the fight to keep the A’s in Oakland. This has been a great fight and may it continue. And thank you Brodie for you corivge in all of this. You and Casey Pratt have been my go to sources for information in this sorry saga. I know that today is very tough for you and the fans of the Oakland A’s. You are losing your baseball team and I can only imagine what you and other A’s fans are going through today. I feel so sorry for you, the fans of the Oakland A’s and and the rank and file employees but I have no sympathy nor do I feel sorry for the ownership. They don’t care about anything but the old mighty dollar and the fans and rank and file employees don’t matter. That just skinks to high heaven. And no A’s fans in the Bay Area will never fully get over this and you shouldn’t expect them too, so please have a heart and some sympathy and don’t tell A’s fans to just get over this. This could be your team someday with the way baseball is going at the moment, and you will be feeling the exact same way that A’s fans a feeling right now. So don’t tell these fans to just deal with it or get over it. That is just incredibly cold hearted thing to do. Also do the Giants really expect the fans of the A’s in the Bay Area to just become Giants fans. After all that the Giants have done to the fans of the Oakland A’s, including voting for relocation, NOT A CHANCE. So don’t also say that A’s fans should just become Giants fans. That wasn’t probably going to happen anyway but with what happened today that will almost certainly not happen now. So don’t even try to suggest that because you will just cause more pain and suffering to A’s fans that they are already going though. So please just don’t even suggest that. Thank you.
Big rays fan here, I’ve been trying to tell people for years that the narrative that the rays don’t have fans has everything to do with where the stadium is located, and how long it takes to get there, as well as the time the game starts. It’s pretty inconvenient. The Rays television numbers are pretty great considering attendance. They’ll show up when all the snowbird teams are playing us.. which doesn’t matter to me all that money goes to the rays. New stadium is coming and it’s gonna bring a lot of change. There was no incentive to come to a rays game other than good baseball, and sadly knowing and loving ball is a niche thing in Tampa. All they need is what they are proposing and I believe it will change the narrative. I feel sorry for A’s fans because I know that this scenario could be tampa if the narrative grows.
Thanks for all the great video coverage throughout this process, Brodie. It just seems to me that the whole entire ballpark at Howard Terminal was a complete waste of time, and a joke, because of the dumb ideas coming out of nowhere, of the A's moving to Las Vegas. As if hearing about moving to Vegas wasn't enough regarding the Raiders moving there. Again, thanks for your insights throughout the process. Keep up the good work!
How much people want to bet that there will be NO expansion offer for Oakland any time soon? I can already hear the Giants' ownership saying that Oakland and the East Bay are now their "franchise territory" since it's so close to San Francisco. Anybody that doesn't see that coming is probably a bit naive.
I saw Manfred's press conference a little while ago and he claims that the Giants' territory is not changing and that the Oakland A's territory will now become "Open" territory. I'm still not holding my breadth when expansion comes up in the future.
@@RobertMarshall That open territory isn't going to mean shit for an expansion team. SF already has all but Alameda and Contra Costa. It would be nice to have a new expansion but realistically a team is going to want more territory. Salt Lake City is likely the next best destination next to Nashville.
RIP MLB 11/16/2023!! First of all, thank you, Broadie for all the work you've done! Please keep up the good work and your head up high!! I know it will be tough. I've been an A's fan since I was 5 and went to my first game in Oakland. I'm from Salinas (approx a 2 hour drive) and go to the Coloseum whenever I can. I fell in love with the colors, Stomper, and the Bash Bros as a kid. Oakland felt like, maybe not my backyard, but maybe part of my block. I couldn't give a sh*t about Las Vegas! Been there and It's the type of place you go to once or twice in your life and then get over it. I would'nt go even when I lived in Los Angeles, and it was only 3 hours away. I dont see myself watching anymore MLB after this. They really f*cked this one up and sadly the residents of Nevada and the players will be the ones to suffer this rediculous decision now. Oakland fans have suffered enough! It feels like the owners just want a few days in Vegas. Now they'll get to use the A's as an excuse to be in Vegas for a few days and rent some high end hookers since they dont have to train or even show up to the games if they dont want to. As for me, I'll be sticking to my Bay Area teams and now will only be going to Sharks and Earthquakes matches. After this bullshit, MLB, Robber Manfred, (that was not a misspell by the way) and Joke Fisher can all go to hell! 👎👎👎
Take away MLB's tax exempt status ASAP. We, the people, allow that. The President of the 68's should file a lawsuit, the Twins wouldn't be in Minnesota if not for a lawsuit.
As a diehard Cardinal fan, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Oakland A’s. I grew up in the 80’s when they went to 3 straight WS. The bash brothers were awesome. I never ever thought they’d move anywhere. I know they’ve moved times before but they’ve always been in Oakland, that’s where they belong. There’s 2 commissioners I can’t stand and I wish they’d just go away. Still don’t know how they’re still commissioners. Those 2 are Goodell and Manfred.
First, the A's SHOULD stay in Oakland and Brodie's videos have been impassioned, informative and fair. It's astonishing that the Howard Terminal deal, which seemed almost completed, did not happen. However, I would add that many personalities who I've seen hosting or who have been interviewed on various YT channels saying the locals definitely don't want the team are only speaking for themselves. I think the majority of the "silent" locals are sympathetic to Oakland fans' plight, but are hopeful this will work out and are willing to take a wait and see attitude. The revenue side is always spoken of, but the addition to the quality of life a team would bring to Las Vegas residents is seldom mentioned. To say Las Vegas should "wait" is absurd, as the chance to have an MLB team is not something that comes along that often. Anyone thinking that if the A's didn't get the money, education automatically would, doesn't understand how things are run in Nevada, as that same neglect of education was the same fifty years ago. An additional factor is that Gaming and Mining pay far lower taxes in Nevada than elsewhere and basically own the politicians. Additionally, the single teachers' union split into two warring factions, one of them being the CCEA backing the petition. The odds are not in their favor to succeed, due to politics and the large number of signers needed statewide. I also feel like the number of people traveling to see games has been underestimated in these videos. I myself have gone to see games in the Bay area many times and see lots of fans of visiting teams on televised games as well. But I'd be definitely surprised if they averaged 27K a game. Just my two cents. Hoping for an expansion team for Oakland at the Howard Terminal site. I'll be there.
Thanks Brodie for your passionate and informative updates. Feel so bad for A's Nation. They'll probably move the location a few more times, change renderings because of cost overruns , and it'll probably get built by 2029 because of delays of this and that. Let them play in Japanese, Korean, or Domincan Republic baseball stadiums for all I care. Done with Fisher the Grifter!
While none of this is surprising given what we were predicting recently, the question mark was always: Is Fisher going to answer the questions of where they'll play after 2024, what's the building design, what's his financial plan, etc... before the vote? Seems like they took the vote without all that stuff. Seems strange since Manfred said they'd have to go through all sorts of requirements before relocation is approved. I digress. Let's get to what precipitated this to be rushed this year to begin with, the revenue sharing deadline. What I'm wondering is: how much does Fisher have to reveal of those unanswered questions to have the stadium deal required to continue on revenue sharing? Will we have those answers in the next couple of months?
Fisher should NOT be allowed to sell for 10-15 years AFTER relocation happens. He is only relocating for free stadiums and to increase his club by billions by way of free handouts and tax payers of Las Vegas.
The reason the vote is unanimous Is if Fisher try to do this he'll get taxed and the money distributed into 29 other owners Or that's what I heard the rumours 🤔🤔🤔
Good job Brodie. We bought season tickets in 68 and invested years of emotions and money in the Oakland A’s. Nothing is forever and I am glad my parents aren’t here to see this. It hurts to see the team move to Sin City. It’s ALL about money. Not my money…never for baseball. Go 49ers!
As a Twins fan I am extremely disappointed in Jim Pohlad (yes you said it right). MLB tried to take our team twenty years ago and I am terrified that this sets a precedent that it's fine if that happens to other teams too.
Brodie, thank you so mucu for all that you've done. I don't know how we fans can repay you. I'd love if you could keep us abreast of how when this, as you say, "falls apart in the oven." If Fisher and Kaval ever worked in the real world, they would be fired based on their BS. As you've said, it's far from over.
You’ve been incredible throughout this process and I really appreciate you candid comments. I’m not an A’s fan, but have many friends who and for me it’s one of the most passionate fan bases I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going to that ballpark since 1992 when I moved to Davis to see the Orioles play games there and enjoyed the atmosphere sol much that I would go to see anyone play there because I’m a baseball fan first and foremost. Later I worked for the RiverCats and got to know many of the great players that came through there and made their way to the big leagues, so I have a soft spot for that team. I’m very sad for the many friends I know who have been lifelong A’s fans that have had to experience this process and I was proud to stand with them at the first Reverse Boycott game because what was happening was not right. I for one will never give Fisher another penny of my hard earned money and I feel the same about the Giants too because I believe they betrayed their Bay Area rivals who once lent a hand when they needed it. I wish you and all of the A’s fans nothing but the best
Brodie, thank you for your continuous delivery and effort to keep all of us Oakland A's fans updated through all of this. Sad day for us A's fans and baseball fans all around.
I have been preparing myself for this moment since hearing the news that the River Cats were going to become the Giants affiliate, and the A's affiliate was moving to, wait for it, Las Vegas. I guess I had a pretty good run. Been going to the Coliseum for A's games since 1970 I was 9 years old. My dad shared his love of baseball with me, we would have lengthy discussions about what was more exciting, a bases clearing double or a three run homer, an inning ending double play, or strike um out throw um out.I was in the seats for a lot of incredible things at the coliseum, from Nolan Ryan's on-hitter to Josh Hamilton dropping that fly ball in game 162 in 2012. Being out in the garage working on my car and leaning into the radio when Bill King would describe the play at the plate, or hearing Bill and Lon taking light-hearted jabs at each other. I shared my love of the game with my kids, and I was looking forward the being there when my kids share their love of the game with their kids. But it's become all about money. I'm not even sure who has betrayed me the most. So that's it for me, no more. I gave up on the Raiders back when I heard that the dimwitted human Muppet with a bowl cut was taking over the team. Now, as much as it breaks my heart, I have to turn my back on the A's. So due to the fact that I'm not sure who is responsible to the A's leaving, I say this. MLB, John Fisher, Bob Manfred, Mayor Sheng Thao, Oakland City Counsel, the SF Giants(Territorial Rights, and voting yes to allow the move,) team owners and anyone else that let this slip through your fingers... YOU ALL CAN KISS MY UN-WASHED A$$HOLE! Brodie, thanks for all you have done, I know this is hitting you awfully hard as well...what a heart break.😓😞😤😠😠🤬🤬🤬
In the history of the A's inception being a charter franchise since about 1901, they have certainly had more than their share of difficult owners. Prior to the current Fisher ownership fiasco, the ownership when they were in Philadelphia moved the team to Kansas City in 1955 when Charlie O. Finley, who was a real piece of work, bought the team. He created all kinds of havoc and issues during their short stay in the heartland, and by the early 1960s, he already wanted to move the team yet again. Up to this point, the A's were perennial losers mostly finishing in last place. That relocation finally happened in 1968 with the move to Oakland. Finley moved the team after only 13 seasons in KC even after the city built him a new stadium for the A's. That created so much backlash that MLB awarded the expansion Royals to KC. However, with the move to Oakland, the fortunes of the team finally changed, creating a winning culture that culminated into a dynasty in the early 1970s. The team now is on the verge of relocating yet again to "Sin City." The franchise really appears to be "snake bitten." Once the anticipated 3rd move to their 4th city occurs, they probably should be rebranded like the Senators were by becoming the Twins, the expansion Senators becoming the Rangers, Expos to Nationals, Pilots to Brewers. Oakland can then keep the Athletics (A's) branding if they can get awarded an expansion team by MLB. This would be a consistent protocol with the NFL when they allowed Cleveland to keep the Browns branding for their expansion team after they lost their original team to Baltimore.
Thank you for the video Brodie. I have followed your videos this whole way and feel your sadness and it represents my sadness and that of thousands I'm sure who are so very disappointed by John Fisher and MLB's actions. That Oakland has been poised to complete a deal for a great ballpark in Oakland only to have rug pulled out from them for Las Vegas is so bad. No transparency, no truth in any of this process which is so under-handed. John has refused to deal with any of this straight on which is so hard for us to deal with. Thank you again Brodie for being our voice, presenting all the information along the way. Great job!

You will. Even Brodie knows shovels won't be in the ground for awhile.
I think Fisher wanted to move A’s to Vegas not MLB! If he wont sell or stay, what can you do?
This is what happens when the city doesn’t clean up its act. You cannot have a cash poor team in a cash poor city.
If you know Nevada politics and culture, the schools over stadiums thing is dead on arrival.
One of the team store manager i spoke to said he started working there since 1968 since they moved to Oakland. Another lady who works in that store for 30 years. Dedication working folks and sad how this is ending like this.

Sorry A's fans. My heart goes out to you all. Twins fan here. #respect

Been a A's fan since I was 5, but Kirby Puckett was always my favorite player. So thanks for the support and you all now have a new Twins fan.

The news I never wanted to hear, and I'm not an A's fan. Been watching you for years, Brodie. Thanks for everything you've done
Thanks for mentioning the righr outfield bleachers. They really set the tone during games.
You can say that again.
*when Fisher refuses to invest
One thing billionaires do is spend other people's money before their own
This dude has shown zero interest in investing in that team. MLB should force a sale of that franchise to someone who actually cares about their business. Fisher is a joke.
Don't forget that they also need to average 27k attendance for 30 years to pay off the stadium, which is utterly laughable.
Fisher is most likely going to sell the team once the move is done and cash out big time.
I think former players should stay away and totally ignore and shun everything about the A’s until they return to Oakland. No A’s fan should go to any games to show their solidarity.
The players union were one of the ones wanting out of Okaland.

"It's just business." And that should be reciprocal when teams demand taxpayer money & tax deals to stay & play.
Do the people of Nevada mind that the A's apparently just made up a faux design to get tax money from them?

Me too. Great memories since 1971 when I was 9. I'm so depressed right now. It's just not right.
Appreciate you Brodie. This obviously hurts you as much as anyone. A major part of my childhood dies with this relocation. Totally gut-punched.

Las Vegas isn't too far away, maybe closer....
@@ronclark9724 Yeah, but Vegas won't be as passionate as the Oakland fans. Just watch Raider games at Allegiant. The visiting team's fans tend to outnumber the home team's most ot the time.
All of a sudden? What a hoot! The A's have been wanting a new stadium the past two decades. Oakland's time EXPIRED at the end of 2022...
Oakland is the first city to lose major league status since the Whalers left Hartford in 1997.
I think we should beg them to sign the new lease in Oakland at a steep cost. Then boycott the crap out of them.

Baseball owners make their money of the loyalty of its fans, but they keep slapping us in the face and enough is enough.

I'm not even sure if I'd even accept an expansion team. MLB did Oakland dirty. F all of them.
I wouldn't even give it 15 years. A baseball stadium with a retractable roof on 9 acres??? That stadium is DOA.

Why would the owners not protect their own interests?

I think it's safe to say that they made the 100% correct long-term call there that ultimately benefited the league as a whole, not just the Giants. The events described in that video would never happen now because no owner wants to make a move that would curtail their own "rights" to act like a spoiled child.

Thanks for your coverage Brodie. You've been an important voice for fans across Nor Cal. Manfred is a tool shed and Fisher is a juice box.
Let's not forget the greedy SF Giants for blocking a move to SJ
It's a heartbreaking situation for Oakland to go through.
Appreciate you Brodie. Keep covering it because the emotional connection you have is just like the rest of us. We need that realness.
I was born in NE Ohio. I was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. When they changed name to Gaurdians I gave up on MLB. Haven't watched a game since.
By the way, I currently live in Vegas and I will not support the A's. MLB can go suck on one of their over priced hot dogs at the food stand.
Hi Brodie,
I’m a 23 year old who can never remember a time when I wasn’t an As fan.
Sincerely,
Adam
The fact that it was a unanimous vote further proves mlb doesn't care
Brodie, your continuing coverage of this situation (nightmare) has been incredible. Great information, detail and perspective. Keep it up.
Mexico City, Las Vegas, any number of MLB stadiums throughout America... Only idiots in Oakland thought the A's had no where else to go...
@@ronclark9724no matter how this turns out you will always be a dick
Fisher should NOT be allowed to sell for 10-15 years AFTER relocation happens. He is only relocating for free stadiums and to increase his club by billions by way of free handouts and tax payers of Las Vegas.
The reason the vote is unanimous
Is if Fisher try to do this he'll get taxed and the money distributed into 29 other owners
Or that's what I heard the rumours
🤔🤔🤔
Oakland City council should immediately buyout the lease of the Coliseum and tell Fisher to stick it.
My heart goes out to Oakland fans. As a Mariners fan, I can't imagine someone uprooting them and taking them to Nashville or Salt Lake City.
Great job!
