thank you so much for this video, it helped me a lot to understand and make a decision on doing it or not (i got a audi quattro 2.5 v6 in my garage and I was perplex to upside down it)
Nice! My biggest concern with this application that you have to lower and engine and transmission so that your cv axles are not too high angle. How much cm or inches did you have to lower engine and transmission to get the cv axles at the same angle to where they were before having a flipped transmission?
Hey, I wonder what is your experience like running this gearbox is it a good choice? Do you have to change cv joints/boots often? I have heard people are having issues with this conversion on a mountain roads going up and down, did you had any? Did you have issues with the gearbox being so low on gravel roads? Any advice on going this route? I have 66kw tdi engine and thinking of getting a 1.8t out of passat to go along. Thank you!
I've had no issues. The van still has its original cv joints and boots. I put larger rear tires on at first but have since reduced them again and no issue with ground clearance. I measured it in one of the videos. Think I have about 200mm to the bell housing. A custom built t25 gearbox would still be favourable for perfect gearing but I'm getting real close to having it exactly how I want it. I need to fit a dual mass flywheel and might eventually do a remap but I live on a hilltop with shit roads and have never had a problem with it. There have been some dirttracks in Portugal I decided not to press on on but I'd have made the same decision in anything that wasn't a 4x4
@TheTinski07 thank you for detailed reply. I am surprised about the cv joints holding up, that is awesome! My friend is also running passat b5 gearbox and due to harsh angle of cv joint, he has to replace boots often. Did you make a change to diesel gearbox from petrol 1.8t, if so, how come?
The petrol gearbox I had turned out to be from a 1.6 petrol but I had the Tdi one aswell. The petrol box with the solid mass flywheel gave horrible vibration at certain rpms and I felt 5th gear was a bit too short as well. The tdi box massively reduced the vibration but still needs a dual mass to be perfect. Under a 100kph I only need 4th gear. 5th is best above 110kph. When I put the van on the lift my drives just about touch the swing arms as a reference for the angle.
Hello. I am also working with t3 doppel. My plan is put also flipped Passat gearbox behind 1.8t. I wonder where you find adapter plate for that your great conversion. Beginning my plan was cut gearbox front end about 7cm line from the edge, but is anybody dan the aluminium welding that gearbox because it seems to be tricky or then I don't have a skill for that.
Hi. The adapter plate is available from Ultimate engineering in the UK. His name is Tim Shettle and he is on many forums. You have to remove 1.5cm from the front of the gearbox to allow fir the adapter thickness. I'd you take it to an engineering shop then you will have to dismantle the gearbox for them to mount it in their machine which is a lot of extra work. There is no welding involved
@@TheTinski07 It seems your diesel engine is tilted but my 1.8t gasoline engine will be straight vertikal position. Is it gearbox bolt circle pattern same those both engines. Thanks,i will send message to ultimate engineer.
@petri heinonen yes he also sells one for the engine to stay upright. The plate is first bolted to the engine and then the gearbox is bolted to the plate with separate bolts
@@TheTinski07 That's great, I send message allready. Thanks again, I hope to have that plate. I have so much else to do with the car, brakes, elecktriks, steering, air ride etc. All helping solution is welcome. Kind regards PETRI HEINONEN
HI, i have a question, im building a T25 with 1.8T flipped gearbox swap. Im using the gas gearbox with 108mm flanges. How do you recommend the axles? Cant find sizes anywhere and I do not have examples. Is there a difference between T25 gas or diesel axles? Do you make a flange adapter? And or is there a direct bolt on solution? Hope you can help me, Grtz Bart
Mr grumps has probably answered that for you. You will most likely need a 15mm spacer on the righthand side, that's what I had before. The petrol gearbox I had, had 100mm output shafts. Shafts are the same length on all models and 100mm CVS.
watching this for the umpteenth time. my project is hardly going due to other life stuff. this keeps me inspired!

What gearbox did you use
Does this transmission come with a diff lock or is it possible to put a diff lock in it? Cost?
I am interested in mating it with a TDI motor

They are at a much steeper angle but are still the original CVs and have done 20k miles like this. No problems or signs of wear yet
for the wind, you might want to research upgrading to a bigger anti sway bar. they are available.

the gears in the cabin are normal or reversed ciao zanetti italy ravenna
Reversed but very light and easy to get used to

@mr grumps wow thanks, I will try to go this route! Are the T4 cv's the same on the diesel and gasoline?
