Bringing a balance between Ida and Pingala is a very important part of living a balanced life. 40 minutes at a time, 4 times during the day. There is a certain transition happening. But experientially, if you observe the nature of the movement of the energy in the system, you will see that the energy always moves along the established pathways accordingly, never randomly. So there are 72000 pathways in which the energy moves. There are 36000 pathways on the right side of your body, and 36000 on the left. The right side is called “Pingala”, and the left side is referred to as “Ida”. They are also referred to as the “Sun” and the “Moon” respectively So these two, Ida and Pingala, or the Sun and the Moon, the right side and the left side of the body, on the level of your mind signify the logical and the intuitive. When I say “intuitive”, intuition is not another dimenssion of perception, but just another dimension of computing. If you have the same amount of information within you, and you go logically, maybe there may be 10 steps to get to a place. Intuition means that you don’t take the 10 steps, but jump to the 10th step. However, today’s modern education system is 100% stomping on the intuitive dimension, and only praise \sand develops the logical dimension. Anything intutiive is dismissed as nonsense. For everything, you have to think through it. What your grandmother just knew, you have to do billion-dollar research to find the same thing. When you have to think through everything, and everything seems to have multiple steps, life becomes stressful. If one wants to be successful beyond a certain point, there are some things where you should be able to jump the steps and arrive at it. It’s still the same information and the same stuff, but you don’t have to walk through so many steps every time, since it makes life very stressful. It’s like you’re driving your 4-wheel car only on two wheels, and two wheels are left unused and safe. And I don’t know when those two spare wheels are to be used. However, the two using wheels will feel an enormous amount of stress. So in the yogic system, the significance of intuition is as important as logic. As a result, bringing a balance between the “Ida” and the “Pingala” is a very important part of living a balanced life. Being able to conduct yourself through complex situations with ease comes only when the intuitive dimension of your mind is sufficiently evolved and developed. Otherwise, small little things will freak you out because, for everything, there are always multiple steps. Here we’ll be doing a few things to bring the balance between the “Ida” and the “Pingala”, to give you an experiential understanding of this. If you take your forefinger and place it beneath each of your nostrils one time, exhale, and find out in which nostril the breath is dominant right now. How many of you find out it’s right? And how many, the left? Okay. It’s either your right or your left nostril, only from these two barrels, you know. If there were 25 nostrils, how complex it would have been? If you observe yourself through the day, you would have noticed that approximately every 40-48 minutes, the dominance of the breath will shift from the right to the left, and then the left to the right. Why this happening is because within the system, the dominance of energy, or Prana, which is the vital force in the system, is shifting, either from the Pingala to the Ida, or from the Ida to the Pingala, every 40 minutes. Once the energy shifts, within the next 8 minutes, the breath will also shift accordingly. If you are perfect state of health and well-being, The energy will shift within a few minutes, a few moments, or instantaneously, we can say. This kind of shifting is happening every 40 minutes. However, during certain times of the day, which are referred to as the Sandhya Kalas, as the “Twilight Zones”, including the periods in terms of 20 minutes before and after the sunrise respectively, 20 minutes before and after noon, 20 minutes before and after the sunset, and 20 minutes before and after the midnight. The energy shifts rapidly every 40 minutes a time and 4 times a day. There is a certain transition happening and the energy shifting so rapidly within yourself, it’s then so easy to bring a balance back at these times. To an extent, almost everywhere in the world, any spiritual process or practice, either in the morning or evening, Sndhyas has become synonymous with many spiritual practices. When there is no ease, there is the disease, whether you are medically diagnosed or not. If this “dis-ease” is continuous over a period of time, it will manifest itself in the body as a malfunction, which gets labeled as some kind of dis-eases. This is like incredible names people are coming out with them for the dis-ease. The system is designed to last for the span. But for every kind of problem, the fundamental reason that the system doesn’t last for its span is that we keep it at various levels of imbalance. If you are driving your car just with two wheels all the time, something ill breaks down someday. Therefore, if the whole system is not properly kept, there is not enough balance in the system, similarly. It’s only when you are in balance, that there is comfort. Otherwise, there will be no comfort within you, then you will not know comfort., either, unless you know some sense of balance within yourself. Only when you are in balance, you can be still, and man is ill. Human beings are ill only because they do not how to be still. Stillness will not come unless there is proper balance. Only when you are totally balanced, you can be still within yourself, otherwise, still will not happen.
