    What a great presentation Adam! Thank you. Was validating to see I use the same resources as you although I gave more focus to Bookfinder over ViaLibri... I may give ViaLibri some time to compare benefits. I've been a collector and SMALL-TIME dealer for over 25 years, getting my start coordinating bookfairs in California for the California Book Fair Associates (Diane Neveu, Sol Grossman, Paul Hunt and Keith Burns). I never broke out into the higher status/standing of many other dealers, although I have built a decently unique (IMO) inventory as well as having handled some quite amazing pieces over the years. Looking forward to your next postings. Peace! Zack

    I rescue and restore antique books Android donate them to my local library. I can usually find about10-20 pre1930s Hardcover books for FREE every week. Just check the dumpster behind and Half Price bookstore. They toss out hundreds of books every day. Just don't get caught. Its not illegal in the US but if they see you doing it they will start destroying the books before tossing them out. I go around 1am and just reach in and take a few that interest me. Best one thus far, 1912 Pinocchio with leather binding and breathtaking enamel cover.

    • @RareBookBuyer

      There is a difference between fair market value (auction records) and retail as booksellers have to make money and there are many hidden expenses in business. One can only aim to make prices fair. There can also be subtle differentiating factors between copies that effect value. If you need any specific help evaluating a book reach out directly. And of course “worth” is not just monetary. Booklovers are worth more than the sum of their books.

      Adam Weinberger Rare Book Buyer Thanks. That helps put things in perspective. I have to remember that the best “rule” for me is to only buy books that I love, for whatever reason. That way I’m satisfied no matter what!

      @@RareBookBuyer this is so true! I love all of my antiquitarian books so much. I have one that is quite literally worth -5 dollars, but it was my first old book. My grandmother got it for me for 3 dollars at an antique shop. It is what got me started at age 14. I would sell it for 5 thousand dollars just because of its sentiment.

The loan comments are of interests, as I've read numerous places of subscription services that were invited in the English colonies in the America's, that men of some means might have access to things then in print. • @RareBookBuyer
      @RareBookBuyer  3 года назад +1

      Not sure what you mean by the usual rate. Some dealers take commissions depending on the quality and quantity - these fees can vary. Except for very high end single volumes or small collections I tend to stay away from those arrangements and prefer outright purchases. I should do a rare book video on bookseller margins- these tend to look high for individual books but fall sharply when unsold inventory costs and other business expenses factor in.

      @@RareBookBuyer Thank you Adam, you at least bothered to reply and that too decently though it was a bad information for me. I have book 'COMPLETE WORKS of William Shakespeare'. It is signed on the cover by William Shakespeare' and I have verified the signatures from the link 'www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=shakespeareoxfordfellowship.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/signatures-feat.png&imgrefurl=shakespeareoxfordfellowship.org/the-shakespeare-signatures-deconstructed/&docid=6f1H2XEOn8hB4M&tbnid=s6lP9GU3AsyapM:&vet=1&w=500&h=330&hl=en-GB&source=sh/x/im#h=330&imgdii=2mzhTwcQtRmIKM:&vet=1&w=500'. But I am confused that how can they be Shakespeare's Signatures as he died in the year 1616 and according to Google the book came out in 1623. I have also seen the same cover on some other website.while Googling. Please tell if they are the real signatures. If yes, then this book is definitely somewhere around 400 years old. What price it can fetch me if I proceed further to sell it. I only know that it is in our family since 3 generations.
