for gaming laptop full size arrow key is more important than shift key. really hate those impractical small squized arrow keys. hate them from the bottom of my heart
This is why I sub'ed Dave, he's only one of the few reviewers who called out that up arrow key position issue. It means he actually spent time testing the thing, meanwhile other reviewers rushed to be the first to release their "review" videos and they're all just reading the specs out to the viewers without any insight.
TIL that people use the right shift key when typing a question mark! I've always done it with the left shift key, so the keyboard problem here wouldn't be an issue for me. Also, great review Dave :)
Same, I always leave my left hand at the left side and hit the shift while I'm pressing the question mark, instead of hitting a two keys with one hand, it seems way more awkward to do with the right shift
Came here after his XPS 15 (2019) video cuz he said this one was better for gaming but after seeing the price on both laptops I cried a little. I’ve been researching laptops for 2 weeks, it’s so stressing. Before these two week I had no clue about laptop specs and how they work and so I thought that my $1000 budget was pretty high but my $1000 goes more for “budget laptops”. Let’s hope I figure it out before college start in two weeks.
I say go for a MacBook Air 2019 model with the cost of 999 dollars if you're planning to buy a laptop for college only, I am planning to buy this Razer for productivity like for making music, school work and a small games like 2k20 and dota 2.
I still prefer a laptop over a desktop because I can carry it around everywhere and game in my friends LAN Party which is awesome unlike you people always saying *BUILD A PC* blah blah blah and then what... Stay in your mom's basement 😂 playing all day... just stfu...
for anyone who is looking to purchase the Razer Blade 15 in the *BASE MODEL* (Dave is currently showing the Advanced Model), here are some things you need to know. *Differences* - the function keys DO light up for the volume, brightness etc in the dark -the base model does not allow you to change individual keys' colours. you can only change the ENTIRE keyboard layout's colour. -contains the Ethernet port -the speakers have smol little holes in them, lots of dust can get caught in the holes and may drive you crazy -device is slightly thicker and heavier
Left shift squad. Left hand to shift, right hand to Question Mark. Alternating hands when typing is a faster technique than using the same hand to hit multiple keys in a row. Step your typing game up.
+Kusakabe Mirai +Andrew Nguyen +HardwareNext +Otaku Chan +Rowdy I take it none of you guys are touch typists, I don't look at the keyboard when typing and type at over 100 words per minute..average is 30 to 40.... I USE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SHIFTS all the time, LEFT SHIFT + Right hand upper case letter..........or RIGHT SHIFT + left hand upper case letter. Both are essential, I used both typing out this message. I switch from laptop to desktop constantly, thus I would never buy this laptop based on that stupid keyboard layout alone. smh
Nice video 👌🏽 ... I kinda miss the laptop outline sketch that used to be there in older videos when you give a recap about the device's specs or the conclusion and your thoughts on it ✌🏽
By far the most professional and asthetic review of the new Blade in all of YT. Every grown man is acting like a child while reviewing and everyone seems to be using clickbait thumbnails nowadays, while you just keep it clean and to the point with perfect production quality.
I love how Dave doesn't pull any punches. Straight to the point user experience reviews on the day to day. He spits out the compromises one can make on a keyboard, but then again, why should you when you spend that much money. Love the honesty. That's how you build a loyal brand.
Hey Dave we would like to see a video about your dream gaming laptop whether in a form of a design or actual laptop. We would like to see what should an ideal gaming laptop look like and what should be the specs.
Dave, thanks for making the videos! Would be great if you could do a comparison video of the thin and lights released in 2018, namely the Aero 15X, MSI GS 65 Stealth, ASUS ROG GM501 and this laptop. You do an abbreviated version in one of the reviews of the aforementioned machines but given that so many of these thin and lights are being released in 2018, would appreciate a dedicated comparison video. Thank you for your helpful reviews!
Hey bro, I loved the review... I am getting one soon (to work and play I am a musician). But I gotta say, the artwork on your video is outstanding, color combination, angle, everything.
About keyboard layout. You guys have no idea (probably) what it means to use (especially for software development) an Italian keyboard. We have accents (à, é, è, í, etc...) so to insert perenthesis and other common symbols we have to hold down various combinations of ctrl-alt-shift. When I first saw an US layout I was just amazed.
Timon L That's why I'm buying one. The problem is that I still have to use the Italian one for when I'm writing in italian. Come on guys, let's make a petition... "Make English the one and only language"... Just saying...
Great review. Im trying to decide between this, the MSI GS65, the Dell XPS 15 9570, Gigabyte Aero 15x, or Surface Book 2 for Photoshop and 3D rendering (C4D Octane and Maya so GPU and CPU). I haven't gotten to see this one in stores yet, but this is one of the 3 that have a touch screen feature which makes it easier to pan and zoom in photoshop for example...the MSI has a tougher trackpad to work with but great specs. Could I ask which you would choose? thank you!!
No, not yet, but I do think I want to try the Razer Blade 15 4K once it releases!! I heard from Razer (hope I'm right) that they have a 14 day return policy if you don't like it, but you gotta pay shipping back.
@@NinaMariePhoto the MSI GS65 is the best in your list, has better ventilation and graphics plus the portability of it is mind-blowing. can probably run any task on it.
Another great video. Thank you very much for taking the time to do it. I've got a question that I would like to ask you as you are the youtuber I trust the most when it comes to laptops. I am currently choosing between this and the Aero 15x. I've heard that a lot of people are complaining about the terrible backlight bleed on the Aero. Is it something to be concerned about? Was it an issues with the unit that you reviewed? What about the Razer, any backlight bleed? Finally, I know its really down to personal preference, but which thin and light gaming laptop do you recommend if we take money out of the equation? Once again, thank you very much for the great review. Keep up the good work.
Vanity I had aero 15x, just returned it back and bought the razer 15. Trackpad is shit on aero, you would have to replace the driver to use it. Screen is good(1080p). For some reason I couldn't change the screen brightness and the volume by 1 percent. Only by 10 percent (screen like 10,20,30,40... ) and by two percent ( volume 2,4,6,8...). Keyboard is a little bit different but you will get use to it. The built quality is okay. Performance is great. On my aero I found one dead pixel. The battery is not living all day like they are saying. Just watching a movie around two hours max. Even if you will put the screen on 0 brightness the screen will not black, you still able to see everything what it shows. I switched to aero 15x after the MacBook pro 15 2015, and I like that MacBook and razer 15 have speakers on top.
Thank you very much for the reply. Really appreciated. I'm very sad about the Aero. I guess it's not as good as it looks. Tell us about your experience with the Razer if you have time. I'd love to hear what you think about it and if you are happy with the purchase. I'm a bit worried that the battery life is going to be bad.
Ive always loved the discreteness and portability of razor laptops, they dont scream "hey im playing videogames" in public, cant wait to get my first one this year
AERO 15X VS BLADE 15, you know many people are waiting for this show down, have you used the overclocking GPU feature during testing ? Because I compared the FPS and thermals with your Aero review video and I see the Aero is slightly better, which doesn't make sense with all that vapor chamber and overclocked gpu thing Please tell us what you think ?
I loved the way you compared the Aero 15 with the MSI GS65 at the end of the Aero review and I was hoping to see something similar with the Blade review
It could be because of a number of off hand factors, I’ve seen other reviews in which the blade is 7-10% faster in firestrike and 3Dmark than the aero 15X
Gs65 for sure. The build quality is worst than razerblade but u get better internal quality and a finger reader is a bonus. I owned a razer before and quality control is crap. Im using gs73vr right now. Love it. Waiting for gs75.
the GS65 doesn't have a fingerprint reader and the performance is worse compared to the Aorus 15x, but I honestly hate the way the Aorus looks too gamery for me lol. so hency why the MSI and this Razor are the only 2 sub $3000 options I'm considering.
I go back and forth between this Razer Blade laptop and my desktop and have no problem with the keyboard layout. Muscle memory applies to more than one device.
Great review as always Dave... needed this one as I may move my work laptop of choice to this one from a MBP. Nothing seems quite as awesome as an equivalent MBP though.
Even if I prefer laptops also... I don't think you should bring your gaming hardware to the cafe... What about a regular looking laptop with gtx 1050 and an egpu for at home?
I would buy Asus if it had a webcam. I find it more reliable and better build quality than a legion, and cheaper than Razer. For the reviews I've watched, Razer is the best you can buy in terms of build quality/performance/portability, but it is more expensive and the customer service is not very good. If you buy Razer be sure to buy it with an extended warranty, so yeah a lot more money. Also if you don't mind the webcam, try Asus Zephyrus G14.
Depends. Do u want all performance, whats the tradeoff choice between portability battery, thickness, or performance. You can get a laptop with very good performance, but not portability, or you can get a mix. @ Me if you answer this
Is what I don’t understand is why do ppl buy expensive gaming laptops? Isn’t it a more enjoyable experience on a real pc setup with a monitor and desk? Or is this for ppl who like gaming in bed? Or is it for travel gaming?
I completely agree about the keyboard shift key placement... It's a bit annoying. I solved the problem with an external keyboard, but I'd really prefer a different layout. Also, I feel like placement of the lightning port could be better. When I plug something in, the cable gets in the way of having the mouse on the right side of the laptop... Also, I'd prefer to have more Lightning/USB-C ports than the older USB ports at this point, considering the performance difference between the two types of connection.
I'm planning to buy a very nice gaming laptop for college soon, and I've very much appreciated all of the updates on the newest thin and light gaming laptops. That being said, do you think that you could make a video comparing the latest laptops all together? 6 core intel, 1070 MaxQ and above, and light (under or around 4-6lbs?). Namely, I've mostly had my eye on the Asus ROG Zephrys M, Gigabyte Aero, and MSI GS65 Stealth Thin. Thanks!
This or the new XPS 15? I'm not a gamer but I do lots of CAD, 3D renders and some video editing. I'm not going for Dell's other lineup or Lenovo due to their thickness.
Dave - something I'd love to get your take on is the different screen options on this unit - specifically the 4k touch vs the 144hz panel. The touch benefit is obvious on one side but its hard to quantify the difference in color accuracy, gaming impact and battery life between the two. Any chance you could do a side-by-side on these?
Wow genius 😂😂😂😂😂. Dude even if u do like hardcore video stuff on Intel graphics or geforce. Both will drain battery. That won't matter much. What does is u! If u want a powerful laptop which can game then this is haven But if u want portability , battery life and don't care much about hardcore stuff then maybe something else.
I have always been a fan for full size arrow keys. With that said, this layout doesn't border me at all because I believe the original design of having 2 shift keys on both side is to have one hand pressing the shift and the other hand to input upper sigh on other side of keyboard. To make it simple that means use left shift and right hand question mark.
Huge improvement from Razer this year. If you're looking to get one, I highly recommend the 144hz panel. It's really good. Thanks for watching =)
Its great, but for prices, I'll go with the gs65
Sadness is when you realize that you come here to see the laptops coz you can't afford to have them in real life

I go back and forth between this Razer Blade laptop and my desktop and have no problem with the keyboard layout. Muscle memory applies to more than one device.

No one needs this, this is overpriced

Hiya Dave, what kinda mic do you use for recording your videos? Your voice is really clear in all your reviews!
Great review as always Dave... needed this one as I may move my work laptop of choice to this one from a MBP. Nothing seems quite as awesome as an equivalent MBP though.
I WoUlD rAthER buIlD a GamInG PC!1!1
Goodluck bring your PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard, speaker, mousepad, router, USB hub to Cafe
Just A Guy Lmao what a dumbass. It's only 7$.
Even if I prefer laptops also... I don't think you should bring your gaming hardware to the cafe... What about a regular looking laptop with gtx 1050 and an egpu for at home?
as if u buy a laptop just so u can bring it to a fancy cafe lmao
Faiz Maulana A. Of course not. What I'm talking about is portability.
Who games in a cafe? Just buy a really laptop if going to the cafe is your main use . Lol .
Yo Dave, review the new XPS 15 9570 please.
I wana ask whats better : razer blade 15 , asus zyphrus m , legion y730 ?
nassim benhadid in the same boat now, wich one did you chose?
I would buy Asus if it had a webcam. I find it more reliable and better build quality than a legion, and cheaper than Razer. For the reviews I've watched, Razer is the best you can buy in terms of build quality/performance/portability, but it is more expensive and the customer service is not very good. If you buy Razer be sure to buy it with an extended warranty, so yeah a lot more money. Also if you don't mind the webcam, try Asus Zephyrus G14.
@@florealucian1743 I didn't buy yet am still stuck xD
@@rayman2704 thank you , can I ask you what are your thoughts about the asus gl703gm ?
@@nassimbenhadid1467 I like it, one of the last gaming laptops from Asus with a webcam on the top.
Hey dude. Is your dad the jeweler with the Ferrari collection? Love the vids man.
Love your reviews, straight to the point.
I have a $1200 buget for a gaming laptop can anyone recommend me one? That would be great!
K Gaming Acer Predator Helios 300.
Asus gl503, go on micro center
get a Supreme box logo tee instead. #hypebeast
dell Inspiron 7577 or G7 series
Lol i need gaming pc because theres no place to place the pc ;-;
We want review of *DELL XPS 15 9570* 2018
Thumbs up if u agree!!!

Dell's are shit...get a clue and grow up.
@andrew Haha
Gaming Is My Life You know that I’m right. Wanna do some fun reading, check out the Dell Facebook page and read the comments.
@@MichaelRichards983 You're saying this on a Razer video. They're the epitome of shitty hardware.
Thanks!
This vs XPS 15 2018!!! And maybe against MacBook pro
This or the new XPS 15? I'm not a gamer but I do lots of CAD, 3D renders and some video editing. I'm not going for Dell's other lineup or Lenovo due to their thickness.

yeah that's the pro graphic version of the xps with an nvidia quaddro card.
Adam Graham why haven’t I ever heard of these things. Really cool machines.
daniel_960_ now I use a razer blade 15. But it was good
Adam Graham any flaws in blade 15?
Do I get the effect in the thumbnail when I buy one?

Excellent review, Dave!
Woa that iPad with a keyboard sure looks cool!
1:17 looks like you really like overwatch, you play it every time you review a laptop for gaming
I don't blame the guy, I've been playing it for over a year, and I'm still as hooked as when I first got it.
Why would I get a custom pc when I can get a Razor Blade for $7?
What are those neon RGB tubes in your background?
Jackyjo007 prototype lightsabers I think... or maybe something cheerleaders use.
I continue to love the unique OLED panel of my Alienware 13 R3 🐞
Dave - something I'd love to get your take on is the different screen options on this unit - specifically the 4k touch vs the 144hz panel. The touch benefit is obvious on one side but its hard to quantify the difference in color accuracy, gaming impact and battery life between the two. Any chance you could do a side-by-side on these?
If I wanted more battery life, couldn't I just turn on the Intel graphics instead of the GeForce graphics?
Wow genius 😂😂😂😂😂. Dude even if u do like hardcore video stuff on Intel graphics or geforce. Both will drain battery. That won't matter much. What does is u! If u want a powerful laptop which can game then this is haven But if u want portability , battery life and don't care much about hardcore stuff then maybe something else.
4:16 that made me lmao
the logo is.....red?.....in the middle....
Lalo Ajuria I thought he said that xD
I'm pretty sure it was "Right", or it was meant to be
Lalo Ajuria And? ...
Right in the middle... WTF
Lalo Ajuria I was very confused when he said this too
just picked mine up from bestbuy... opted for the 144hz 1060 512gb ssd model at $2199... LOVE IT
Great review, but you forget to mention the technical features, like the types/number of ports, screen resolution etc.
This or the Aero 15x ?
". . . for $7" xD HAHA love it.
Lately it seems like you're rushing through your videos. Great review otherwise, just a minor nitpick.
try eating some chocolate and then watch the videos, you'll feel less miserable that way :)
I agree
I ordered mine last night!! So stoked
