Just to update everyone, the organ remains in good condition and tune and is played by the owner regularly.
Thanks for letting us now! I think most people here are routing for the organ's preservation. What a miracle!
Good to know!
So neat! Any videos?
By the new home owner? Or was the organ moved? It was in a clean climate controlled environment that's a fact!
@@paulj0557tonehead The pipes are bent to fit that location, it would cost a fortune to remove it and redo all the pipes in a different location.
"Not even half" "Come see the other half"
Just what I was gonna say XD
Glad to hear somebody bought the house who appreciated what it held!!
The video didn't say, was it reported who bought it and what their intent was?
I really hope this thing lasts as long as possible, it really is a work of art!
edit - oh, just saw the new owner is in this thread! This is great :D
I have an old barn that I no longer use on my farm. I have toyed with the idea of renovating it to accommodate the installation of a "rescue" pipe organ. I don't have any grandchildren, so this could be my legacy to the world.
So did the house ever sell? For that price, what a steal! If that was my house, I would have weekly recitals and concerts.
+Nick LeveckYes, it sold. It is played daily for personal practice and occasionally organ performance students ply their skills.
I really hope this organ goes to good use. Such a beautiful instrument!
Wow thats one of my dreams rto own one and play it . That has such nice beautifull sounds the sound is some mellow and sweet not harsh like quite a lot of them are.
Heh, here comes the neighbor's complain.
Pipe organ sound pressure spike is lower than a loudspeaker or Rock drummer. I learned about sound pressure when I got lucky and found a fully working air of MAGNAPAN MAGNEPLANER SMg1 speakers (by the curb for free!). These large, super thin speakers sound loud in the room, but step outside the room and shut the door and you can barely hear them. This is what makes the best speaker for acoustic instruments/classical/choral/pipe organ. In fact when I play my MIDITZER AND HAUPTWERK DIGITAL ORGAN SOFTWARE, ORGAN (free versions btw), it sounds very very much like the real pipe(s) are playing than through traditional permanent magnet cone speakers. Buying a used set of Magneplaner speakers is a great investment. Especially if you find an earlier manuf. pair that the seller mentions that they rattle. It is simply the flexible glue that needs to be applied to the thicker diameter "S'ed' copper wire that is adhered to the big Mylar playing surface of the speaker. After 30-40 years it has a tendency to come unattached. An easy fix, Magnepan sells the glue and a RUclips video shows how to make the repair. The speakers outer fabric is also easy to change. Magnepan will also fully restore a pair or around 500 usd's.
*Magnepan has an interesting history of how they were invented.* Check out their site.

Imagine being the neighbour
What a wonderful story! (and what a great organ. Really, that one is FAR more expressive than most organs)
This organ would be a perfect addition to the Grand Theatre in Douglas, Arizona, which is being restored at this time.
That is an impressive array of pipes for an organ. It's amazing how it takes two whole rooms to contain the full arrangement of pipes.
I wonder if the pipes ever break down and one would have to search frantically to find a defective pipe.
The construction of this instrument is so well done that it is unlikely that any deformation will occur. If the pipes are not attached correctly and standing straight, there can be issues. She'll be well cared for!
I am the new owner. I have had two Kimball theater pipe organs in the past, both mid 1920s and I can tell you that they were rich and full sounds. The instruments are still together and being played at a different location. Two successful rescues! I've worked on a few classical instruments around the area and have always been amazed at the volume of sound that comes out on 3.5 inches, but it is so buzzy and tinny that I could not really enjoy it. (16' Trompette specifically.) The nice thing about the GR organ is that it was built and voiced as a unit. 7.5 inches is actually high for a classical instrument, but the scale matches the sound in rich full tones, with all the expected harmonics. The effectiveness of the swell shades is also a huge plus. There will be a lot of fine music played on the GR organ; not only will I play it daily, but also it will remain available for AGO performances. I am very excited to have been able to carry on Mr. Tufts' legacy as a gift to the musical community. No, I do not concertize. I just love the music it makes and can respect a work of art such as Don and Guy built.
PS, and I agree with you on each point from your post. When visiting New Zealand at the South Island Organ Company, the shop was full of magnificent tools and excellent craftsmen - what a beautiful instrument under construction - I so wanted to apprentice there. Sadly, my main man was killed in the Christchurch earthquake while removing an organ for rebuilding. I have a photo of him next to the 32' Trumpet they had just finished.
Thanks. Sounds like you have big plans! I hope you can put one together that meets your needs. Give yourself plenty of room to maintain it!
@@KPO6859 You should play and stream/put it on youtube, millions of views guaranteed!
Oh man, if I ever wanted to build something such as this at home, I would sure learn to play it (and play it well, to its full potential)! This organ would be perfect for a professional hockey arena or even a ballpark (if room could be found to house all of the pipes, wind chests, and other mechanical hardware)!
This organ WOULD NOT be ideal for a ball park or big arena - It is on low wind pressure and the scaling is more for a church od not much more than 3000 seats, than anything else. It is not capable of producing the volume required for large buildings.
It would be lovely as a part of a small community theatre/arts building where small recitals could be held. IN a house like this with small recitals, it still is LOVELY!
@@organbuilder272 Yeah, you see more HAMMOND tone wheel organs in the larger venues. The Hammond organ was invented by Hammond Clock Company founder Laurens Hammond in 1935-36. Do watch some videos about this great organ, or for a quick look watch this old Paramount short film of a couple minutes. It is *at about 40 minutes* into the neat theater organ documentary from the 1980's called (youtube video title) *LEGENDARY THEATER ORGANISTS* .
The organ on my avatar is a HAMMOND X66. I have one from 1972. The X66 was the first high fidelity organ and was installed in many stadiums, arenas, hotels, roller rinks, etc. Many albums were made featuring the X66. On the *OMAR GARCIA* youtube channel, Omar posts fully arranged and accompanied X66 songs almost every day! The X66 being the first HIFI organ allows it to thrive in the world of modern DAW's (Digital Audio Workstations), what he uses to record and produce his professional music.
Impressionante o interesse deste organista ao construir um órgão de tubos em sua casa, é algo inusitável. Nunca vi coisa igual. Parabéns, congratulation pela iniciativa. Estou, realmente, impressionado. Lindo de mais!
I knew a man that bought an old pipe organ and installed it in a large room at the back of his house in Fort Worth TX. I never got to see the finished organ but I did see the wooden bass pipes in his garage. My father played it. The compressor was in a garage at the back of the lot. I cannot remember the address, He is long gone now and he was the Music Director at TCU.
Amazing. But if it was me I would have learnt to play that organ. Great to see these pipe organs installed and working as so many were sadly scrapped.
Now, and even then, but certainly now, and for cheap, one can automate the organ to play any song on it's own. Before music rolls were used, but now you can just play music from any phone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer using a MIDI program and a streamlined digital interface to the organ's low voltage array that switches the pipes, as well as voicing tabs on/off.
1:38 - "This was his life. He said, 'This is my wife, this is my children' ... He had no family."
That particular comment honestly resonated with me quite a bit. It somehow makes me even more happy for him for having had that organ installed. Of course, I would very much love to have an organ even half as magnificent as this one in my home.
I lost my 21 year old son 3 years ago. He was my only child. Although the organ was sort of like a family member before he died, now, along with my guitars, organs, Lp's, 78's records, and HIS MUSIC (google *HENDRIX JACOBS BANDCAMP* ), _music_ is my family too.
That's Absalotley absurd and I love it!
want that house!!!
how much is the pipe organ and did you buy it from piano store
Dang wish I'd had known of this I would have bought the hose just for the organ to install in my churches chapel. The one we have is a 1922 MP Moller I think the 975th built but don't quote me on that. It's somewhere around that number. It's all original and in need of restoration. What a deal this would have been.
Its nice to know the house and organ were saved. Its too bad the owner didnt donated it to a church.
A word to the wise anyone who plays a pipe organ will benifit from this comment make sure all stoppeds are off before turning off the blower because when the pipes depressurise it will make a real loud sound
If that's happening, there's something wrong with the organ.
The pipes only have pressure when sounded. They are normally depressurized.
Forget the double entendre, I wish I had a massive organ. F major, fortissimo, from double pedal through 4 octaves on the manuals, on the full organ, blow the neighbours' socks off! Oh yes.
But if you have it, then you can learn to play, no?
Who the hell installs an organ just to look at it? I'd be playing until i mastered it xD
thats waht I call love for music
How do you hide THAT?
Super!
I'd buy that house in a heartbeat. I'm not a great organist but I'd become much better. I'd be on that bench day and night until the sleep deprived neighbors called the law.
Beautiful but sad.
The Phantom would be proud
Organs in homes is kind of a pariah. Phil Maloof has one of the most historic consoles ever made and you can't get in to see it to save your own life. He bought the Chicago Stadium Barton console and hooked it up to a custom made relay and pipe arrays. Probably more appropriate is the Jasper San Sanfilippo home in Barrington HIlls, IL. It is a venue of regular concerts and he also collected numerous other automated music machinery. Now that's a home.
I've been to Phil's twice. Pretty nice set up. He has set up a foundation that is run by Bob Maes so access to the instrument can be attained. The five manual Kimball is a sweetie, but that 6-manual Barton is a gas to play. It even has a B-29 button. (See some of Dave Calendine's wonderful performances on RUclips.)
Pity he didnt pay for one for the local church instead and share his love with others. the acoustics probably would have been better too.
If I retire, I might want to own this place because of the organ I probably play Bach on this organ.
Omg you are sooo lucky😮❤️❤️❤️
my grandmother got rid of hers when she sold her home =[ wish i could have received it but she left it there..wasn't THIS large tho, this one is huge
Well, I know what I want in my future home
God, I want this! Totally tubular, dudes!
Is in your home this beast!!!So why you don't try to play something by using it like a theater organ???
Is the house still available?
Shut up and take my money!
Was that organ, by chance, originally built by the Schaefer Organ Co. of Slinger, WI? Sure looks like one!
+RonN448 1929 Kimball; Chicago, IL
+Dave Luttinen Thanks for the info, Dave!
Wow!
Is it still for sale?
wow niceorgan
What state is this in?
thats gonna be my house someday....
I’m buying it!
I wish.
The annual maintenance for a pipe organ runs in the thousands.
"Just the oil change thanks I know you're trying to sell me more" 😆
bet the neighbours loved him
If I had been a neighbour and the cacophonous noise from this instrument had penetrated into my house, I would have moved out.
I want that huose.
I want this house oml
Anyone know the song playing at 0:20?
I'd be sorry if this house ever got stuck in a big storm one day and then everything is lost
Define 'fatalist'.
Nice
Tubular Bells at 1:14
Some people are so sorrowful... Pipe organ is his wife and children (felt very sad to listen to that statement) God is the only help for all of us.... 🙏
Or pipes
people are cray
What about the neighbors?!?! DId not appear the house comes with sound proofing.
Ryan Eyestone Ever heard a skilled organist? I actually asked a friend who has an organ in her house if her neighbors ever complained. She said she could beat the bass on any car, and could drown out any barking dog.
+Ryan Eyestone The house is sufficiently insulated and is nearly silent on the exterior except when the windows and doors are open.
Did you say 2300 piece pipe organ? No I said 2300 pipe organ.
House for sale
I tuned St-Andrew Cathedral in michigan and several more. I would love to service this one ! Keep in touch. Stephane Langelier Pipe Organ Company
That cathedral has not one, not two but three LeTourneau Organs in it all built and installed around 2002 (Opus 77, 78, and 79) and the largest one has four manuals with the console inside the organ itself (because of its ruck positif division in that gallery organ)! We even have a three manual LeTourneau Organ in Brighton at St. Patrick Catholic Church that weighs ten tons and it is supported by reinforced concrete because this church has a full basement under it!
Rank not piece
Pipe, not rank. There is no organ with 2300 ranks
+Shining Armor my corrected comment is below
love it how much, poor
what a bullshit neighbor! lol oh, I can't imagine what that would be like if some nutball was playing Phantom of The Opera all night. lol
Good Grief - talk about fake news. That organ likely hase more than 300,000 pieces. It has 2300 Pipes - not pieces. Leave it to news stories being sensationalized to make stupid mistakes - The guy
At 1:20 "It's got a beautiful harp" - and then they show what looks like a rank of oboe.
