    Just an update: Ford pulled the ecoboost motor and broke ties with Factory Five. Yet another insanely inept move on Ford's part. That info is directly from Factory Five.

    Confused abit at the engine layout and trans choice, a eco boost engine isnt new they could have mounted the engine transverses with a dodge neon trans, though i suppose if the kit is set to accept an engine in a particular way they wouldnt want to get too crazy with cutting and welding which would deviate from the point of the kit car.

      You would absolutely surprised what a nice clean shop and endless amount of organized tools can get you. I've seen stuff like this built in a very short time frame...heck, a good friend of mine was doing crazy engine swaps and chopping and sectioning cars by the time he was 13 years old, racing and his own entire own pit crew at the same time by the age of 15, and now works at a race shop building tube frame chassis. Would bet my bottom dollar that dude could have this entire thing assembled in a couple days in his current shop, by himself. There is also a world where engine swaps take days...and then a world where they take a couple hours...it all depends on experience.

      @@AaronHendu I know a guy who swaps subaru engines in a few hours, but he's been swapping engines for years and has a well set up shop for doing the work in. I be he could build one of these in a couple weekends if he was using the regular Subaru powerplant. This build with them needing to fabricate new parts along the way for the ecoboost was probably slower than it could be. Especially with a full Snap-on too setup, you can knock out stuff like this fairly quick. Most of the first video was stuff that should only take a couple days for someone with some experience behind a wrench.

    • @garycrumrine9538

      Look, factory 5 has been designing and manufacturing replica and their own creations for decades. Their reputation for well thought out and manufactured parts that fit the first time is second to NONE. It is easy to sit back and bad mouth something you have never attempted. That is doing a great dis-service to what has been their passion. And while you can easily pay someone to do all this hard work for you, these are truly do it yourself in your garage kits. This particular car is a one off prototype for sure, and as such requires some modifications, however don't be surprised if this engine combination becomes an optional powerplant AND all the hard work and modifications necessary to make it all work are made optional. Again, don't badmouth these guys unless you have actually turned a wrench on one of their creations.

    • @michaelmoses4019

  • @inkno701
    @inkno701 8 лет назад +4

    Why did you use the 6 speed transmission instead of the 5 speed? I know the 6 speed is stronger and better but on Factory Five's website they say not to use the STI drivetrain, any real reason for this other then ease of installation?

    • @KALI1080
      @KALI1080 7 лет назад

      Vegaspsycho the STI 6 speed has closer gear ratios than the five speed. It all depends on what you want the cad to drive like.

    • @inkno701
      @inkno701 7 лет назад +2

      I know that (STI owner here)
      But on Factory Five's website they say, "STI’s drivetrain parts differ too much from a standard Imprezza or WRX for use as a single donor for the 818 platform." (which they don't really differ that much)
      So I just was wondering why they used the 6 speed versus the 5 speed that Factory Five recommends. (which you probably don't know the answer to because you weren't there, and Snap-On and Factory Five don't read these comments anyways so our comments won't get us any answers on here)

      I thought the exact same thing, had to rewind the video to double check he said 6-speed. And that's in fact a 6-speed bolted to that engine but the thing is, 6-speeds have DCCD so I'm very interested to know how F5 converted that to 2WD.

    • @PatrickLipsinic
      @PatrickLipsinic 7 лет назад +1

      It's the same thing they do to the 5 speed. You get rid of the DCCD center diff and put in a collar or spool that locks the output shaft to the front pinion shaft.

    The simple solution to this fantastic chassis is electric swapping it. Low center of gravity, roughly the same weight, less hassle when building, and EVWest sells a drop in electric kit as well.

    I think when people say they want an American engine they mean V8, not some eco engine.

    • @MuShinnen
      @MuShinnen 5 лет назад +1

      If the engine was made in america, it is by default an american engine. V8 doesn't equate to being american. It also makes little since to put a V8 in a car that weighs under 2 thousand pounds. You'd have virtually no real control.

    • @unite4peaceonearth
      @unite4peaceonearth 5 лет назад

      @@MuShinnen Nobody thinks a 4 banger American engine is the shit. LS swapped Mazda Miata is a good example of a very light V8 that has no problem handling the power.

    • @MuShinnen
      @MuShinnen 5 лет назад +1

      @@unite4peaceonearth Speak for yourself. If the only thing you can think of is slamming a V8 into everything, then you're not much smarter than the average 15 year old. Power to weight ratios are a thing for a reason. The car can already hit 10 second drag times with a tuned subie boxer engine. All a V8 would do is kill the driver, and possible someone else with it.

    • @unite4peaceonearth
      @unite4peaceonearth 5 лет назад

      @@MuShinnen You can always tune it down for less power to make it safer but still have that V8 'Murica sound. 🇺🇸

    • @MuShinnen
      @MuShinnen 5 лет назад +1

      @@unite4peaceonearth Tuning it down does not change the additional weight you just threw in the car though. Now you have to adjust the rest of the build to compensate for the additional weight, power, and balance shift of the vehicle. Why put a V8 in the car in the first place if you're just going to tune it down vs just buying a 4 or 6 cylinder and adding turbos? If sound is all you're going for then you risk compromising the entire rest of the build for it.

    • @shananagans5
      @shananagans5 7 лет назад +1

      I agree. I used to race desert cars years ago. When I started we used VW based engines. Later the Honda engines got popular because, lets face it, the VW engine is old & limited in the HP you can get out of them. The Honda had much more potential as far as HP. Problem is, that straight 4 raised the center of gravity & you could feel it big time in a buggy. Granted, that's a bigger issue in a desert car. Our CG is high to begin with and, when racing, you push the car to the very edge regularly but this is also a very light car & moving even a little weight up high will make a difference in the way it feels & handles. It may not be the difference between rolling it over or not but I would expect, even an average enthusiast driver to be able to feel the difference in the CG between the two engines. Huge deal? No, but it would be a noticeable difference.
      I would stick with the boxer engine unless someone has a real good reason to want a Ford.

    • @garycrumrine9538
      @garycrumrine9538 5 лет назад +1

      Well it probably was because Ford gave them the engine. You forget Ford plays a big part in many of their models. And if Ford wanted it and foots the bill, they build it. Also don't forget that they mentioned up front that this car was SOLD. Hey, if some guy pays you to make it his way, then that is what he gets. Why do people put Chevy Small blocks in classic Fords? BECAUSE THEY CAN. That is the beauty of building YOUR car the way YOU want it. Don't be surprised to see this car end up at Barrett Jackson as a charity car...offered by FORD.
