I know I've seen this before, but there is something about Kelly that just goes down to my bones. There's something in her voice that just breaks my heart when she sings something like this. It's like no matter what she sings, she puts her whole heart into it. You can feel whatever it is she's singing. With her new stuff, you can tell she's beyond happy because it's in her voice. But with songs like this, you can hear the sadness. That's one reason why I love her. Not to mention her incredible voice! I've been a fan of Kelly's since the first time I seen her on Idol. This does not mean that Carrie Underwood isn't good. That girl can sing too! But they're just so different. But for me, there's just something about Kelly that makes me believe what she's singing. There's this warmth and purity to her voice. It's so raw. Carrie's voice is incredible too. But again, for me, she just doesn't have the soul that Kelly has. But I'm still a huge fan of Carrie's! Oh what I would give to have just an ounce of their talent!!
Carrie, a Full Lyric Soprano, balanced this song with power and sustenance. Kelly, another Full Lyric Soprano, balanced it with power and range. Both versions just blow you away.
I stumbled across this cover and while I love carrie underwood and the power she brang to the original version I cannot help but love the emotion that kelly sang this cover with that's why I tend to favor kellys version a little more. Both carrie and kelly sang the hell out of it though. I would love to seem them collaborate one day.
I first heard this song tonight on American Idol when Jeremy Rosado chose this song for his "sing-for-your-life" performance and it was so heart-felt.I immediately youtubed the song to hear the full version by Carrie and when I played it, it was like a totally different song! I thought, maybe I should hear Carrie's live version. Nope, still lifeless. Even though she sang it well, it lacked soul.I stumbled upon Kelly's cover of the song and from the moment I hit play, I didn't want it to be over!
I just tried to listen to Carrie Underwood's version and it was like fingers on a chalkboard. Kelly sings with heart and soul....and god what a voice!!!
I agree totally with Carla Chaney. To me, Kelly is a singer who I can listen to all day. I'm still listening to her Christmas CD. I like other singers but I can't listen to them as I can to Kelly. Her voice is so diversified and full of so much passion and emotion.
I've heard Carrie sing this song at the I Heart Radio show in Vegas a few years ago. She was wonderful. But I must say that Kelly sings this song with more emotion and soul.
2015 and i still listen Kelly singing this song. She has a beutiful and powerful voice and I think this is the best version of "I know you won't " in this world. *-*
Personally, I find Kelly's version unintentionally miles more powerful and moving than the original. From the arrangement, to the vocals, to the tone, there's a rawness and grit that no one can touch. It just unravels you.
Bragofan You took the words right out of my mouth. Watching her sing this makes me tear up every time just because you can tell how much emotion she's put behind it. I think she's amazing. Going to go see her for the fifth this summer. Can't wait!
Kelly sang it more desperately, great phrasing, cracking voice which deliver more emotional melody (same way she did with piece by piece in Idol) and soulful, but I think it's too much, she overused this technique for this song, because the lyrics is not that sad. Adele can do the same way. Carrie's tone in the other hand in high note is clearer and more beautiful, and her long note is everything, totally in control and didn't sound pitchy, this make Carrie technically more unqiue. Anyway, I don't think Carrie will sing any song that is soulful as Kelly did, because she is a country artist.
I was lucky enough to go to a taping today of an up coming Vh1 unplugged for Kelly. This was the 1st song she sang, I always knew what a great singer she was but now I know what an amazing singer she is. She did an amazing job with this song, you really feel her emotion in the song. The girl can "sang".
I love Kelly's rendition of this song. It has a darker vibe to it than other versions, which is an amazing thing for an artist to bring out of a song. Kelly definitely knows how to pull the emotion out of a song. Her soulful vibe made this heavenly. She owned this song.
Kelly is 100% goddess. Voice of an angel, personality that anyone would want in a friend, and so grounded in her reality that she is free to be who she is without a care if anyone likes it or not. 100% baby, 100%.
OK, I'll let you all know right now that I'm a Kelly fan. I love her interpretation of this song and her voice is outstanding. Carrie does a terrific job on this song but Kelly's version speaks to me with so much more passion and emotion.
I love Kelly so much! She singing Carrie's song and doing it every bit as good as Carrie. Not an easy thing to do. It's cute how Kelly is clearly a fan! ^_^
This is a beautiful song...I've never heard the original (calm down, going to listen to it now) but I'm not sure it could be better than I'm hearing it now. WOW.
she's not jaded by media attention and she hasn't gained that entitlement mentality as many of our well known "divas" have fallen prey to. She maintains a very normal life with normal friends and a very normal, disfunctional but, normal family. She's held on to the things that have keep her grounded like faith and certain ideas and standards that some would have thrown out right off the bat in the industry. She's not affraid to offend people when it comes down to being real.
I love this woman, she is amazing. She did an amazing job. I wouldn't expect any thing less from her. She is one my favorite singers and so is Demi Lovato. Kelly Clarkson is best American Idol winner, in my opinion. I do like Carrie too she is good. But Kelly has it and she doesn't even try.
Now what does this tell us? Kelly's fans attending her concert do love Carrie as well, or else they wouldn't know the words to one of her more obscure (no single) album tracks! Lay your armor down and enjoy this moment of pure unadulterated brilliance for talent is these two women's gift! Thank you.
Nobody on this planet could give that song any more conviction. Carrie is a great singer & nails it, but kelly will put your heart in ya mouth with the delivery. I Would put this with 'up the mountain' Thanks for sharing.
Holy Mother of GOD!! That has got to be one of the most INCREDIBLE performances I have seen. I am absolutely astounded. I have Carries album and am a fan, but this performance brought it to a whole new level, like a completely diffferent song and its the first time I cried when I heard it. Kelly you are just unbelievable. I am in awe of your talent!!
I don't want to compare Carrie and Kelly, but I'm kind of biased. I love anything Kelly Clarkson sings and I will always choose Kelly. I have tears in my eyes from watching this video and hearing Kelly Clarkson's interpretation of Carrie Underwood's "I Know You Won't" song. I can actually put myself in Kelly's shoes and relate to the song's lyrics. I just love Kelly. I love how she reaches down into her soul and connects to the emotion of this song. I love how she's not afraid to go there.
kelly your soulfulness just gives me lots of goosebumps!!! they were right about carrie's great vocals on this song but kelly's raw delivery is simply magical....
As a Kelly and Carrie fan, they both nailed it. There is no denying Carrie's powerhouse vocals or Kelly's ability to put the sweetest tone in every song. As for the person who said Carrie doesn't put much emotion, you are mistaken. I saw Carrie Underwood last night, and when she sang this, the whole room was in tears. Both girls are amazing singers who are able to truly feel what they are singing. Carrie Underwood is just as good as Kelly Clarkson. They both rock! They wouldn't want us comparing
@Rosannasfriend How in the world could Kelly have sang it with more emotion, she is pratically crying in her falsetto. I LOVE Carrie and am a huge fan, but Kelly NAILS this song, period
Well, Kelly likes to say carrie has been the most successful american idol winner on american soil. but truthfully, lately, Kelly has shown herself as the most consistant and dedicated winner. On top of that, the most versatile. In order for her to last as long as she has, she has to have an ear for great music and the ability to make a song relatable. You carry a story in a song, and she knows how to make every song not only relate to her but to everyone that listens to her.
wow! just wow! I cannot describe how heartfelt and how touched I am by this interpretation. I would love to hear Kelly puts out a live recording acoustic album.
I'm pretty sure if the song writers' see this they would be like this is how it should have been done! I like carrie also but the way kelly sang this song tells the story the way it was written! can't quit hitting replay..
What a talent. I'm enjoying Kelly's "Greatest Hits - Chapter 1" CD. It is amazing along with her 3 new songs - Catch My Breath, Don't Rush, People Like Us. Just love it.
I never realized how "lifeless" Carrie's voice is until I compared both versions of this song. The difference is a stark as night and day. This isn't a competition but it is the place to comment on the topic in the video. Kelly 's version moves me. Carries version bores me.
did you really say that carries voice is lifeless? have you even listened to the live version? it’s miles better than this version. clarkson put me to sleep. absolutely no competition when it comes to carries version. it’s so much better
Orlando Almeida people that have bad taste exist, Carrie has no soul meanwhile Clarkson is overflowing with it. That doesn’t mean Carrie is a bad singer, I like them both. But this song is an emotional ballad that requires some soul.
I don't think its lifeless persay I just think it overpowers the song. She belts out the chorus where as kelly begins the song in a lower more head voice and it gives the song more dimension than carries version.
carrie and kelly they both have a great voice, i love them . . . they must covered this song together, and will be a legend song in a whole world. . i sweer
Let me officially end all of the arguments and debates....Kelly absolutely KILLS this song (in a good way) ! I, for the record LOVE Carrie Underwood but this song is now Kelly's.
Definitely like both versions a whole ton. I like Kelly's changes to the lyrics and to a few notes, but nothing can beat the original. Carrie has INCREDIBLE vocals on this song and her People's Choice Awards performance of this was pretty much the best thing ever.
I loved reading the comments here. I gotta tell you, Kelly has got RANGE and depth. But I saw Carrie do this at the Saddledome and MY GOSH She had a really bad cold and the flu (which we found out later) and she freakin' BLEW the roof off that building. I've never heard anything like it in my life. Everyone was bawling and screaming-it was a God moment. Awesome. Truly.\
Carrie's version and Kelly's version are EQUALLY AWESOME in their own ways! They both have different interpretations of the song, and both are fantastic!
what i love is that both singers sing it completely differently. Both versions are so equally perfect and I love it. They should duet this at some point
There is no song out there that Carrie can't sing. She just hasn't gotten around to doing any of Kelly's songs. I would love for them to do a n awesome rock duet. That would be epic. Two of the greatest singers on the planet doing a duet, country or rock. Who cares.
How could you even compair the two?! They are both phenomenal singers in their own way. I think Carrie brings out the country in the song while Kelly gives it soul...they are both amazing!
The way she controls her voice between breathy and powerful is phenomenal. This is one of my favorite covers from Kelly!
Oh what I would give to have just an ounce of their talent!!
I will fight to protect you and your beautiful heart. You took every word out of my heart and wrote it. 🌻
It's called authenticity.
Almost 2022 now and still here watching her heartfelt rendition of this song. Faultless!
2024 I still listen often
Carrie, a Full Lyric Soprano, balanced this song with power and sustenance. Kelly, another Full Lyric Soprano, balanced it with power and range. Both versions just blow you away.
Lightningshock12 you nailed it with that comparison. Range with Kelly but sustenance with Carrie. Both have plenty of power
I love Kelly's heavy voice, like it has weight to it from her dark velvety lows to her falsetto. And she emotes like no other.
Carries was OK,,but kelly blows it out of the water!!!!
Carries not a soprano,,kellys an alto !!like me!!
KellyAnn Dean Kelly’s not an alto lol
This woman is artistry at it's best !
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Carrie's song, but I have to say, I love the soulful sound of Kelly's version better! I LOVE HER!!
I stumbled across this cover and while I love carrie underwood and the power she brang to the original version I cannot help but love the emotion that kelly sang this cover with that's why I tend to favor kellys version a little more. Kelly Clarkson defies categorization. She is in a category of her own and she rules it!
That's weird cause I can't listen to other singers like I can Avril Lavigne.
I seriously, seriously, seriously did not believe anyone could sing this song better than Carrie. Jesus . . . was I wrong.
I've heard Carrie sing this song at the I Heart Radio show in Vegas a few years ago. She was wonderful. But I must say that Kelly sings this song with more emotion and soul.
This performance should have at least 10 million views by now. Kelly and this rendition is super great!!
Whoever shouted "that just happened" at the end of the video read my mind! Breathtaking performance.
BEAUTIFULLY said!
I totally agree. Especially when she goes into the chorus..I get chills.
Bragofan You took the words right out of my mouth. Watching her sing this makes me tear up every time just because you can tell how much emotion she's put behind it. I think she's amazing. Going to go see her for the fifth this summer. Can't wait!

I'm a massive Carrie fan and I love this song. And i've gotta say, Kelly's rendition was beautiful! Enough said!

after 5 months, I am still listening to this version. I just love how kelly sang this song

I love kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. They are both amazing but to be honest kelly clarkson has always been my #1
Found this on here looking for a Carrie version. I love Kelly and she just blew this song away. One of my favorite songs.
she's really the best THE 1st and the No#1 american Idol ever!
I absolutely adore Carrie but enjoyed this version too. Two very different and amazingly talented women.
Kelly is 100% goddess. Voice of an angel, personality that anyone would want in a friend, and so grounded in her reality that she is free to be who she is without a care if anyone likes it or not. 100% baby, 100%.
i love love love kelly's voice!!!!it doesn't make you wanna say" boring"!!!!
Omg! So emotional 😭 like she's totally broken hearted. Amazing ❤❤❤
Kelly is incredible.....I have seen her live so many times, she is just amazing. Pure Perfection!
Kelly's miles better, vocally and emotionally. This makes me cry :') ♡
Just had to come back and listen to this awesome performance.
This is a beautiful song...I've never heard the original (calm down, going to listen to it now) but I'm not sure it could be better than I'm hearing it now. WOW.
They're equally good. They were intended to bring different things to it .
The original is pretty beautiful
I heard this version 1st years ago, went to hear the original.... stuck with this one
Stunning!! So powerful and moving! Kelly Clarkson is AMAZING!!! ❤
I could listen to Kelly all day. I love this.
Never heard this song before so I decided to compare it to the original and there is NO comparison. Kelly OWNS this song.
Such a good song. Makes me all teary eyed
she's not jaded by media attention and she hasn't gained that entitlement mentality as many of our well known "divas" have fallen prey to. She's not affraid to offend people when it comes down to being real.
Did this make anyone cry? Coz I just cried buckets right now :')
her tone in this is out of this world
Like Kelly's version, prefer her tone and power and the feeling she puts in more than Carrie's. It's a lovely song.
WOW!! SO SOULFUL!! IT MOVES YOU….
Beautiful inside and out! Very talented and humble. ❤❤❤

I LOVE THE WAY CARRIE SINGS IT BUT KELLY JUST GETS MY TEARING WITH HER VERSION

+Tatiane Lourenço Yes, every time I watch it, it gives me goosebumps, her voice is so powerful
Best version ever!! Cuz she puts feelings in it!! What a talented singer Kelly!!
kelly clarkson is the best!!!!!!!!!
She slayed Carrie's version. Damn, this song may have actually been a hit with Kelly's voice. ;)
gotta give it to kelly... she is singing is so well... thanks Jeremy Rosado for bringing me here...love the song!!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS VERSION! I LOVE BOTH, CARRIE AND KELLY! Great singers do great songs. PERIOD.
Love watching this. Kelly makes it her own and took it to another level.
What a talent. I'm enjoying Kelly's "Greatest Hits - Chapter 1" CD. It is amazing along with her 3 new songs - Catch My Breath, Don't Rush, People Like Us. Just love it.
Thanks for supporting Ron Paul. Kelly Clarkson you are a true patriot. Restore Freedom & liberty, RP 2012.
YES MA'AM KELLY SUNG THIS SONG!!!!! OMG I GOT GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!!!

BRILLIANT! SO BRILLIANT!!!!
One of my favorite songs and Kelly's version of this Carrie Underwood classic is amazing.
her voice is incredible!!! WOW!!

My children's children will REMEMBER Kelly because of this live cover :') :') :')
Yes I actually feel her singing this
Love this!! Go Carrie and Kelly I'd love to see them duet
This is simply beautiful. Kelly's voice gives this song such feeling and emotion. Bravo!
Let me officially end all of the arguments and debates....Kelly absolutely KILLS this song (in a good way) ! I, for the record LOVE Carrie Underwood but this song is now Kelly's.
Every time I come to watch this means goosebumps!
YES my favorite Carrie song! I love Carrie singing this, I love Kelly singing this. I'd love to hear them sing it together!
Definitely like both versions a whole ton. I like Kelly's changes to the lyrics and to a few notes, but nothing can beat the original. Carrie has INCREDIBLE vocals on this song and her People's Choice Awards performance of this was pretty much the best thing ever.

Kelly is my favorit singer😍
Omg! That was so beautiful! She sings with such emotion and so effortlessly. She is the best live singer out there.
soooooooooo soulful. I have the chills

So nice to see Kelly doing a Carrie song.. Haven't seen Carrie doing a Kelly song yet... Wish I would...
There is no song out there that Carrie can't sing. She just hasn't gotten around to doing any of Kelly's songs. I would love for them to do a n awesome rock duet. That would be epic. Two of the greatest singers on the planet doing a duet, country or rock. Who cares.
Lol carrie could never sing a song of kely who is a notorius upper belter..
+Lillian Eversole I respectfully disagree that Carrie can do "some kind of miracle" or "Irvine" like Kelly. Yes, they need to duet.
How could you even compair the two?! They are both phenomenal singers in their own way. I think Carrie brings out the country in the song while Kelly gives it soul...they are both amazing!
