    I don't have great luck growing bacteria on the bio wheels, but they are an amazing way to get better water oxygenation

    I found generic aqua tech cartriges that are the same as the penguine pro 125 on amazon for $1.13 a piece. So i use them and sponges.

    Youve probably already been told this, but if you leave a little room between the sponge & back wall of your filter, youll get better flow :)

    Just buy an AquaClear if you want a sponge filter.

    this is a great video. going to try this. my bio wheel is tearing should i get a new one? was thinking of keeping the new one in a bucket of aquarium water

      The wheel doesn't matter too much, I have never replaced one, just clean the parts where it sits to make sure it spins and you'll be good!

    Can you add carbon somewhere to the filter? Is carbon needed?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 года назад +2

      Carbon is not needed, in fact, some say that it can actually take nutrients out of the aquarium. I haven't run carbon in years.

      I just got the Marineland penguin 175 for my 20 gallon. I love the filter system but I think it’s a little too strong for my Molly’s and tetra’s.
      I have to it turn down so low to the point where the bio wheel barely turns.
      I also had to cut a bottle in half to slow down the outlet current.

      After a few days with the prefilter sponge, it will cut the current

    Hi, my bio filter is not spinning is that normal?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 года назад

      Yep, as soon as the flow slows down, they stop. Not a huge deal, just clean the intake sponge.

      My water is carbon blocked twice, so the is no chlorine. Most people should not!
