Hola, soy Zach. I will try to learn Spanish for the next thirty days because why not?
What's the best way to learn Spanish? I have no idea, and I didn't do any research, which is very unlike me. I just jumped into the first resource I saw Xioma use, Storylearning. I then found a language exchange group of lessons and, of course, Duolingo.

Who am I:
My name is Zach. I’m a Resident Physician in Boston. I make videos about medical school, studying, and growth. I love trying new things and often mess up. However, every time I screw up, I usually learn something. Whatever I learn, I post it either on RUclips or on my website 🌐 (zhighley.com/).
I write a weekly newsletter 💌 (zhighley.com/newsletter/) linking the best things I read, watched, and listened to that week. Join the 4,000+ that read it every other Sunday morning.

Wow, I really enjoyed this video and if you're planning to do maybe a part 2 of this challenge, I think it'd be awesome! I'm Brazilian so Portuguese is my native language, but I've been learning Spanish for more than 2 years and I reached an advanced level, and I'm really impressed by the level that you achieved! Greetings from Rio 🏖️
thank you! Brazil / learning portugese is definitely on my bucket list! Hope to do that in the coming years
Hola Zach!
Hola Zack, I just discovered this video. I loved it. Thanks for taking the time to learn my language (I'm from Spain) even if it was just for 30 days.
You learned a lot!. Great job! Hasta pronto!
I love how you’re experimenting with new things every time! You’re doing amazing work Zach.
More to come!
I didn't realize until starting residency how important it is to know Spanish for best patient care. Thanks for the video Zach!
Que genio! You're awesome. You're such a good example and inspiration! I'll try to learn Portuguese haha love it!
¡Buen video!
It has always been motivating to watch your videos, our brilliant Zach! 🤩
thank youuuu
Wow, bro! Your dedication to learning new things is truly inspiring. I always gain valuable knowledge from each of your videos. Keep up the excellent work, brother. I appreciate your efforts!
gracias!!
ive literally just this past week been considering trying to pick up spanish over the summer break as a useful way to spend my time, this video seems to be a fairly hefty encouragement!
being in a spanish speaking country helps immensely
I love your contents Zach. Keep them coming.
always always
Buen video hermano. Jajajaja jajaja
Full immersion is definitely the way to go when possible. I did 8 weeks of language training before moving to Mexico. Depends on the person, but for me, I started to understand quite a bit after 2 months or so, and then I felt comfortable speaking fully after about 7-8 months of being there. It’s super cool once you start thinking in the language you’re learning. Good luck on your other languages!!
Qué parte de México
@@CamthaCupid Yucatán (Mérida) y Cancún. Me encantó!

@@zoeloveslife22que siiiii, viva Yucatán! Me hace falta comer la cochinita….
how interesting ! It had been a while since I decided to start learning Spanish, and this video and the Spanish language challenge in thirty days really excited me .thx for your amazing videos ❤️
vas vas vas
This was great! Dropped this right when i started getting back into learning spanish. Aprende muy rápido también!
Very cool and inspiring, Zach! 😊🎉👏 I agree, I think it helps to watch authentic content. And I think it helps even more when youve already seen it a bunch of times. For example, when I was little and learning English, my parents bought me the English version of my favorite movies. Anyway, just wanted to share that in case it's helpful to others.
Definitely, casa del papel is awesome
After studying such a huge amount of medical syllabus and then learning different languages 😮 man hats off to you , lots of love ❤
haha it helps!
Saludos!
Love seeing you challenge yourself in this lingual way. I am also learning conversational Spanish to help Spanish-speaking patients in the medical field (and to be able to speak to my grandma in her native language). Buena suerte!
definitely need mucho practicar hablar en español
@@ZachHighley muy chistoso 😂 you are learning great 👍
woww! I shocked with the 14-day summary :D ¡Siga así mi Doc, va muy bien!
This is great and really insightful! I'm trying to learn Chinese, so I will definitely be using some of these tips.
thanks!
As a future physician, Zack has been such an inspiration! Thank you!
What you have been studying
Are you gonna do phd in PHYSICS?
Please reply i want to know more about physics because I'm thinking of doing masters in physics but I'm a bit confused.
let's goooo
@@nave_writes Im sorry, I do not know much about that. I am a senior, but will be going to medical school next year. My major is biology. I wish you the best though!
@@nave_writes I think you mistook physician for a person who studies physics. A physician is basically a doctor while a physicist is a person who studies and researches about physics.
@@agnijabasu2749 yes you're right, Since I have been studying physics for years, got excited and I misunderstood the word physician and thought it derived from the word PHYSICS.
Hola Zack!
Desafio desafio desafio!!! Tengo que hablar con esta palabra massssss
Just know we will always support you. Keep working hard to attain your goals.
thank youuuu
Good video Zach! You did pretty well. I am just starting to try and learn Spanish. Obviously every region of Spanish speaking countries can have little differences. I'd heard that the Argentine Spanish is quite closely aligned with Italian. Have you heard this or did you find anything out about this during your time in Buenos Aires?
I am watching this video thanks to RUclips.
As an Advanced English Learner, I must say that I 💯 agree that "speaking with a native speaker is the BEST thing."
I really had fun watching it!
Thank you very much!
Muchas gracias! Columbia es mi proximo lugar para visitar!
I started learning Spanish 2 days ago and I was looking for a video to help motivate me more. So glad I found your video which was also uploaded 2 days ago HAHAH
Hola Zach!
Bro your accent is extraordinary, recently I'm doing shadowing technique with your videos
Excelente, ..
@@ZachHighley 😃
Great video! I may give Spanish another shot now because of you. On a side note, I love that sweater. Do you know where I can get one like that?
I think it’s APC or acne don’t remember which one sorry bought it like 8 years ago
*internal struggling* 😂 the same thing happens to native speakers of spanish with english!
@@ZachHighley anda a NY!
I’m a beginner Spanish learner too 😂
Can you make a video more in terms of learning a language step by step maybe even showing how to implement anki on this !?
I think I am definitely too much of a novice for this, maybe later in life! For now I recommend Xiaoma he has awesome stuff
ME ENCANTO ESTE VIDEO ❤
I'm in the United States right now and I don't know much English
Zach eres brillante!!
it's challenging to learn a language, but it's even more difficult when you need to learn two languages at the same time. I live in Montreal Canada. I moved there 10 years ago. My first language is Spanish and I can tell you that learning French was the most difficult to master. It took me around 3 years to be totally fluent in both languages.
Amazing experience ☺️
buena fortuna!
Am going to start today
saludos y éxitos con tu español amigo
gracias! quiero aprender mas
I’m also trying to learn Spanish! I have been using Babbel and I’m not sure it’s been that helpful
I wanted to learn spanish this summer but today I gave becausea I dont have time and u dropped the video is this a sign
Vas!
Hi zach i just finished the MCAT but there is coincidence i got 97th perecentile on the MCAT to i don't know how the hell it heppend after i got the results i just discovered you too got 97th percentile its all because of watching your videos how to study and active recall helped me a lot thanks for the brilliant content thank a lot❤❤
amazing work
Thanks and remember I improved because of your study techniques♥️
Saludos desde Perú! 😊
Saludos!
Being a bilingual, learning new thing and exploration is great. How do you rate my English cuz it's my second language. I think you like exploration so why don't you come visit Ethiopia. I swear it changed a lot. 🙏🤗🇪🇹
your English is definitely better than my spanish! well done
Impressive Spanish for only 30 days. Great work joven!
gracias amigo!
Felicidades, tienes una buena pronunciación.
muchas gracias!
would you mind if I ask how many languages can you speak btw Zach? :))
I speak 1, English! trying to learn Italian and spanish but definitely not proficient in either
Learning Spanish right now! ¡Hablas bien español!
intento!
Amazingg bro!!! Me and my sister learnt lil bit of spanish through an easiest way by watchin' DORA the explorer🤣😂 lol
Haha 😂
Hola!
:) love seeing someone started something from zero. Cringe … but somehow made me feel better about myself ….lol….sorry.
My first 3 months learning English was exciting, my heart was racing every time I spoke with a native speaker. But 3 months is all you need for a breakthrough to happen.
thank youuuu
buenas noches pana mio.
Ive been learning spanish for 3 months and you know more than I do a month😅 it's my fault for not practicing tho
Hey I also learn German language along with spanish....El hombre...de alta fidelidad....
All the best, currently a resident (masters)?
resident ye ye
No so bad! Actually, quite impressive. Btw, I have no idea about Spanish. You’re funny though 😂
haha thanks!
Ufff Palermo mucha guita bro
cierto pero solo dos semanas allí
Wowww!!! Amazing!!!
Congrats.
Only a correction : Mas mejor… no. Se dice MUCHO MEJOR.
Learn ,always change us.I born in Argentina, now I live in Spain. Come to Madrid the next time.
Listen songs in spanish maybe be helpful, too. Soda Stereo , was a very good musician group. Maná mexican group, too.
Series: Los simuladores, El encargado , are good in my opinion.
Vos only use in Argentina o Uruguay. In the rest of countries is tú .
Congrats!!!
Gracias! mucho y mas son difíciles per mi
Ok I’m convinced I’ll get back to learning Korean lol
muk chi ba let's play
Become a doctor and speak different languages. Mucha suerte. I am proud of younger people doing positive things with their lives ❤
You should try to learn mandarin 😊
might be my next one (after Italian)
@@ZachHighley and portuguese? are similar - Latin languages
Hack Zigley
Bro has the gringo accent
Also… nice handwriting, doctor.
thank you thank you
*PromoSM* 😴
Hey dont lie , you like spanish girls don’t you ?
I love everyoneeee
Forgive for all offenses zac bro
Intentionally typed zac instead of zack to tell it's not a spam comment or bot one. Forgive for that as well plz
Your style is not my style. I could not travel somewhere to learn a language. After two years of learning Spanish, the closest I've had to a conversation with a native is a short back and forth in RUclips comments. Plenty rewarding for me however, and I love reading/listening to books, watching media, playing games, etc.
I can’t believe how many times this guy said Buenos “Aries” and also typed it in the captions without ever realizing that it is incorrect
And there are other errors in the subtitles and in his speech that he didn’t correct after editing the video. Like dude, it is not that hard to use a translator and proofread. Otherwise, why even point out other corrections?
