Absolutley stunning exterior looks, 9/10 which is a lot to a smaller suv. Actually since the size of the Tonale is larger than most of its competors in its main segment, its also a really good rival to larger opponents but pricewise still in C-segment. Smart move Alfa!
Love it Thomas. I drive a 2020MY Giulia Veloce 280 in Misano. Its my 3rd Alfa, I love them. Special cars that make you feel special, fabulous to drive. Delighted to see A R launch a new stunner, keeping the "look" but hopefully giving more drivers an AR option. And keeping my favourite car brand alive!!
And just when I thought I knew what my next car is going to be, this comes along and is already up there as a potential future purchase. Very interesting.
Alfa Romeo never disappoints in the styling department. Design is much better than its German counterparts in my opinion. A pity how the brand has such poor public perception.
Another design masterclass from Alfa and particular impressive as its sharing a platform with significantly plainer looking models from the group. Specs look decent as well so am looking forward to seeing the first review.
Nice to see Alfa compete in this segment so bored of current compact SUV offerings especially from Asian manufacturers, Alfa always bring a new dimension, innovation plus that Italian flair panache which you don't get with it's other competitors have to mention those seats!! beautiful!!
Can't really tell if the build quality of the interior is similar to the germans, but the ergonomics are amazing, including the position of the controls and real buttons
The original concept was designed by the Greek Alexandros Liokis but in order to get the production license some modifications were made. He design also the Alfa Romeo Gloria. Another glorius Alfa. The dashboard is incredible and remind me Ferrari, like Giullia. The fabric is top quality since the Italians always use top fabrics, even in the Grande Punto Tjet. If you look the leather seats from the Alfa romeo GT even to this day after so many years, most are in excellent condition. I don't remember the name of the leather but I remember it was Italian leather handmade on the seat. I like good cars from any brand/company and i can say Tonale for me it is by far the best in it's class. Thanks Alexandros Liokis.
So it's a typical Alfa: Looks fantastic and quality of the materials a little worse than you'd expect (and it's probably quite engaging to drive). Hopefully it does not cost people an arm and a leg in the long run. Great review as always, Thomas!
im sure BMW x1 doesnt have any better quality of the materials, you always have to remember where the reviewers comes from, its shows in Gerrman and UK reviews aswell any other countries which has own car manufacturing business.
Another great review. Looking forward to a driving review of this Alpha. It’s a very very attractive car. I saw a Stelvio in the flesh so to speak. The emerald green paint work was just gorgeous.

I don't mind real door handles in an ICE car, and the blacked out side mirrors are also expected and practical. But of all the things I wish Alfa Romeo would have been kept from the concept was the rear quarter-less glass. A few manufacturers have addressed this in design ( Mustang Mach-E, and latest Mazda CX-5, and Audi with it's upper model levels) to name a few.
Great looking car.Ok so the infotainment screens in AR's are a couple of years behind the best but looks so much fun to drive.Just concerned the stiff suspension on irish back roads will do my back in :)
@Autogefühl Do you know if there is as an optional a Head Up Display and also a night vision (infrared camera) like in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 ?
Arives too late on the scene. The problem with Alfa is that they need 10 years to develop a single model. While the car is put into production the car already looks outdated and it gets even worse becase they do not update their line up for 10 more years after they release a model. Just imagine that the Alfa 147 was a direct competitor to Golf mk6 and Giulietta to Golf mk8. That is just insane...
@@livolas understand the battery thing, but when you mash it in 0-60 awd Kicks in same as stelvio regardless of preferred fwd vs RWD, you’re having 50/50 split in either model.
Yeah, and it's absolutely stupid that Stellantis owns all 3; they should be competing against one another... They could do a strategy where Lancia sits below Alfa Romeo (think GM with Buick and Cadillac), and then Maserati becomes an ultra luxury brand, but if you ever sat in a recent Maserati, you'll know that the build quality is far from that.
@@lucadipaolo1997 I'm not sure about that. Lancia is a legendary brand, known for their premium and innovative cars. When it comes to quality and technical innovations, pre-Fiat Lancia models were much better than comparable Alfa Romeo models.
@@normaluser5755 yes, but as it is, Lancia only sells in Italy, and most car buyers even in Europe either don't remember the brand, or remember it in a very bad light (such as in the UK). It's important to understand that while we car guys know what Lancia truly stands for, neither Alfa nor Lancia can rely solely on that to stay afloat, they have to appease to the broader car buying market, and when it comes to that, most people's impression of Lancia will either be "never heard of them" (especially outside of Europe), or "lol rust bucket"; it might not be a fair representation, but it is what it is. I agree with you though, if they create two truly distinct styles/philosophies for both brands, then they don't really need to put one below the other; I'm still skeptical about it, I'm not sure if Lancia will succeed nowadays based on that alone.

That interior is a bit of a let down styling wise, it looks a bit generic and not very modern like they designed it five years ago and only half a generation in front of the Giulia. The GLA, Q3 and XC40 all look more modern, and the latter have been out since 2018!
