They sort of establish why Ramona would be sweet for Scott in such a short amount of time with the narrative device of Sparks when they kiss. Its unique to the show I think and a clever way of showing how people feel like they found their soul mates.
Feels way more natural than the movie imo. The interactions between the party and him getting his amazon package delivered in the movie didn't give me the vibes she was super into him at that point like this show does
late but i completely agree. the sparks just show that they click and it does a good job of expressing the honeymoon phase you experience while building that emotional investment into someone that just seems to get you. their dynamic even after scott is gone feels weirdly natural with how they portrayed the tone of the relationship initially
I find it funny that people just think the spear is a weapon of Poseidon when Matthew is an Indian guy and there are multiple Hindu gods with spears as weapons. like the Six-Armed God Ganesha and Shiva, which is why he has two more arms at that moment.
18:16 honestly i think the opossite is true, there is chance that you are so attached to the previous adaptation that you were in fact expecting the same thing but animated (and probably expanded through the episodes) and that is preventing you from let go and really get into this new version as an original story (that kind of happened to me haha, but i got over it by the third episode, wich i LOVED)
truth be told I don't think its based on what we knew the relationship to be. It's that sense of longing coming from what could have been. Guessing there's a lot of weight behind those sparks considering the amount of ex's Ramona had.
13:24 Speaking as someone who had never read the comics or watched the movie, and was introduced to the franchise via this show, I disagree. They sold me on the chemistry between Ramona and Scott instantly, and it’s extremely believable to think that the date left enough of an impression that Ramona would think of it fondly less than 48 hours later.
Have you guys never felt chemistry or butterflies with someone right away lol? That’s where the sparks came from. Plus, it’s pretty normal to feel sullen over a person you shared an intimate moment with after they just “died”. I’d say forget the tropes & cliche beats you’re used to and see where it goes. Things in the Scott Pilgrim world are indeed ridiculous and stupid. And in terms of the “fan service”, that’s literally the foundation of the Scott Pilgrim franchise. So I don’t necessarily think it’s cheating to lean in on that. In any case, the series is a fun detraction from what we were all expecting and while you may love or hate it, I honk you’ll find the direction the show goes in very interesting. There’s definitely more than fan service here. But everyone’s mileage varies.
talking from my experience, i don’t have any knowledge of the original materials (movie and comics) but i didn’t think it was weird for Ramona to be interested in Scott because, first, the way i interpreted the thing about their dreams is almost like they were destined to be together and knew each other for a long time (and Ramona is almost conscious about that) and second, the sparkles thing when they kissed. and it’s not like she’s acting like she lost the love of her life, to me in this part was like the guy she was dating had a weird death by her ex and she’s investigating
also from the first episode they don’t explain a lot of things on purpose, they are already stablished for this universe, like the dreams, the fighting to death like it’s normal, etc, so i already didn’t questioned too much
@@gabbie25 It can still be interpreted like the comment, though. That's just the explained reason why it's an actual thing, but interpretation doesn't have to be stated.
I think what they did with story is genius because it allowed them to expand on all of the exes and side characters on their own. Now in season 2 people will be less hung up on Scott appearing and allows characters like Lucas and Wallace to shine even more
Lindsay: "Maybe it´s Scott takes off beacuse he is taken off the story". As always, Lindsay is the BIG BRAIN here Anyways, as Carson, I only watched the movie and this change of the story only got me excited because is something I didn´t expect at all. When a series manages to surprise me in that way, it only makes me want to see what will the path and result be. I understand that there are people who were upset because they wanted to see a faithful adaptation to the comics, but this script was also written by the original author of Scott Pilgrim and it is good that a writer can always take these creative liberties to provide more content of his work. I agree with Carson that this story is aimed at fans of the movie or comic, not for those who just wanted to see something from the Scott Pilgrim universe, but I don't agree that they stuck to this idea to show Ramona's sadness . As Lindsay mentions, it's more of an issue of feeling guilty since she was indirectly responsible for his death. Also, I loved the fight sequence too. Something that perhaps is not appreciated much in the film, for me, are the abilities of the ex´s due to the limitations of being an LA and here they show off how powerful they are and the way in which they can fight. Very good reaction, especially because I knew that Carson was a super fan of the movie and wanted to witness that clash between his expectations and what is proposed as new in this anime XD Episode 3 will be the start of theories, so really excited to see your reaction and theories for that.
Not sure what you two found confusing about Mathew wanting to take control of the League from Gideon. Mathew saw how the rules that Gideon reinforced of beating Ramona's current date's didn't really work or make sense after beating Scott, so he thought he'd make a better leader because of it. Not sure how the "is he thinking being the leader will make Ramona date him?" idea cane from you two. Have you two never heard of the "that person I interacted with a few times/once is the one for me" trope before? It's kinda a recurring trope in romance stories, romance anime especially. I've seen that trope used in stories where the lovers only interacted in their childhood and can't even remember each other's faces back then. Weird how you anime fans aren't aware of that commonly used anime trope.
14:35 Ramona fixated on Scott because it’s the only relationship where she didn’t have any control in how it ended. She has some unspoken issues in that department, though for a fresh viewer that wouldn’t be clear until later in the show.
It has been said but as far as her not having motivation to find Scott, its her ex that "killed" him because of him dating her, so even besides having feelings for him she also would feel a level of responsibility to find him because she is the catalyst by which he went missing
They sort of establish why Ramona would be sweet for Scott in such a short amount of time with the narrative device of Sparks when they kiss. Its unique to the show I think and a clever way of showing how people feel like they found their soul mates.
Plus Ramona would in a way feel responsible that Scott “died” cause of her ex.

I mean, realistically it makes sense to be sad/remorseful if you caused someone to die because you were starting to like them.
I find it funny that people just think the spear is a weapon of Poseidon when Matthew is an Indian guy and there are multiple Hindu gods with spears as weapons. like the Six-Armed God Ganesha and Shiva, which is why he has two more arms at that moment.
Yeah it’s pretty obvious but ig I could see the misconception bc it happens during a scene where it’s raining.

I'm so glad this ended up being a totally new story and not just rehashing the original story again.
Bro with that Helmeppo cut over here

"the thing about their dreams" was just ramona passing by scott's subconscious through the subspace highway system, and scott misinterpreting it

Stephen Stills is the band mate of Scott the person your thinking of is Lucus Lee

I didn’t catch Knives’ line being an Into The Woods reference, but that tracks given where her character goes.

Rebuild of Scott Pigrim
oh since u guys know into the woods im excited to see ur reaction to a particular scene
It has been said but as far as her not having motivation to find Scott, its her ex that "killed" him because of him dating her, so even besides having feelings for him she also would feel a level of responsibility to find him because she is the catalyst by which he went missing
Thank God you guys didn't drop the show after ep1 it's really amazing and I want to hear your thoughts on it
I guess its better if you have read the comics. Ramona likes Scott from their first date. Where you expecting the same story? Ew.
