    *Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*

    Junky81, Thank you !! I've been struggling to get 50 yards out of my Lew's (7.1.1) baitcaster.... watched this video, purchased a Johnny Morris Titanium 8 (5.3.1) w/duel brakes.... OMG, I'm casting 60+ yards without any backlash, but more importantly - no fear of having a backlash. To top it off, first time using it tonight, caught a 1.5 lbs & 4.6 lbs bass..... I can now reach where the bass play. Also purchased the KVD line conditioner.. (the Real Magic line spray is crap!). Keep making great, informative videos - I'm learning a lot... thanks !! btw, new sub.

      cool tip: let out some line and put tape on the spool, it'll prevent getting brutal backlash. then just practice casting like that, it helped me out

    Great video man , got a couple questions.. I have lews combos, does they usually come with dual brakes and if so do you think the Centrifical brakes are set right way they should be inside? And my other 1 was , how much drag should I set on my baitcasters? As you see I'm pretty new to using baitcasters lol . Thanks man any info will be highly appreciated! Thank you

    Excellent video. I am going to give that a try because all I get is backlash and wind up with a birds nest every time. I will have to practice a lot I guess.

    I'm only ten and I'm a beginner to bait casters and if I have a light lure like a beatle spin what magnet number would I have it on

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  9 лет назад

      Nancy Fatebena A beetle spin will be tough to throw on a bait caster. I would use as light of line as you can get away with and have the brakes on the highest setting and back them off a little at a time.

      It may look like it in the video but it's actually getting worse. It seems like the wind and the rain is never going to stop here. As of right now there's zero visibility. Thanks for watchin Juanelo!!

  • @ДмитрийМонастырев-х5л

    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    I love and hate my bass pro carbon black it's very similar to some of yours it's very smooth but it takes forever to get the two brakes right and when it backlashes it backlashes terrible. But when I get the brakes right no backlashes and cast like a dream.

    This is unrelated to this video.. But I was curious I just bought a 2004 bass tracker. With a 60 horse merc.. Ran most the day great. Then all the sudden at 4000 rpm the rpms started to surge.. I was curious on if you ever had any issue similar.. I was thinking maybe it was just a little low on oil

    Are you basically showing that everything can be setup to completely avoid backlashes without ever using your thumb to feather the spool?

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  10 лет назад +1

      Yes and No. You can adjust the breaks and make the spool tension knob tight enough to where you don't need to feather the spool, but you should always keep your thumb right there just in case of wind, etc. Even if it's set up perfect, you're going to backlash every now and then. That's just for beginners, the better you get the more you'll loosen that tension know to get better distance so you'll always want to feather the spool. Thanks for watchin!!

    My knob doesn't stop the lure from falling even if the magnetic brakes r off. Can u help me fix or do I have to buy a new one

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  9 лет назад

      FIFAx All the tension knob does is put pressure on the end of the spool. There's nothing mechanical about it. There's no reason that it shouldn't work. Have you taken it apart? There's a washer inside the tension knob...did it possibly fall out?

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  10 лет назад

      I really don't know what I can explain in the video, it's really all in the release and it's a little easier to cast, for some people, if you turn the reel to the side on the cast...have the spool facing to the side instead of to the sky. Hope you understand that and if not I may mention something in one of my vids.

  • @Countryboy2206
    @Countryboy2206 7 лет назад

    The tension knob is for the backend of the cast, not the magnetic. I have my magnetic reel setup so it slightly over runs and then the tension knob slows it down and tightens everything up before the lure hits water.

    Hey Junky81, one thing you can add: when casting a baitcaster, one way to also keep the line coming off the spool evenly, is to turn the handle upwards towards the sky while casting. I don't know why it works, but it does. Case in point, you were doing it in your video and probably didn't realize it, or you have been casting for so long, it's second nature / muscle memory.
    Keep up the great vids!

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  10 лет назад

      There was a few things that I should have added -that being one of them. Leaving maybe 12-18 inches of line out when you cast and then casting side arm is a lot easier then over-head. With that being said, when my wife first started out she could cast over head really well but couldn't cast side arm and now she can do both. Thanks for commenting with that tip!! Thanks for watchin!!

    This is the best video for baitcaster basics that I've found so far. Just a couple questions of clarification... 1. When setting the tension knob, do you want the magnetic brake fully engaged or fully disengaged? 2. My reel (Curado 70) has 4 centrifugal brakes, not 6, so as a beginner, would you recommend having 3 of 4 engaged? Thanks, and sub'd.

    Great Video! I have been fishing with baitcasters for 12 years. After watching the pros on video I am so confused now because i have been holding my baitcasters with the trigger between my middle and ring fingers. I have huge hands with long fingers and when i try to hold or "palm" the reel correctly my middle finger gets jammed up and cramped under the gear box. So many new baitcasters are so low profile now and closer to the rod that it seems my quest to "palm" the reel is getting even harder. Any suggestions or tips on "palming" the reel? I have never seen a video on this topic either. Maybe you can help enlighten me with this frustration.

    also I noticed you said you prefer lighter lures and light line. I was on forums and was reading to get 17lb. so I did. am I wrong, because I get over run alot! everycast. in my defense I've owned my baitcast reel for a total of 72 hours lol

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  8 лет назад

      17lb is a bit heavy for lighter lures, you need the right rod as well to be able to toss lighter lures with a bait caster. 17lb is what I use for jigs, 15lb is a good happy medium, but for light lures you may need anywhere from 8 to 12lb. I have other videos on this subject if you look through my playlists.

      ok. braid or mono?

    • @TackleJunky81
      @TackleJunky81  8 лет назад

      If you're new to bait casters start out with mono and use a lighter lb test with a tad bit heavier lure to make it easier to cast till you get the hang of it. Conditioning your line really helps as well.

    • @hooper8935

      +TackleJunky81 ok. I'm running 17lb now. should I drop to 12? I'm kind of getting used to it now and never tried line spray however I've read that it help tremendously with cast distance
