- Hidden in Darkness is a non-profit short movie project, based on the videogame Don't Starve, developed and published by indie studio Klei Entertainment.
This short movie is a low-budget project, shot in just two days by a group of italian fans. Sperimenting the effects of natural light of fire into darkness we have researched the best result as possible with our equipment. Most of the special effects were made with traditional techniques.

I especially love the part where you're walking in the dark with just the torch providing illumination! Particularly in the shot taken from farther away, having only the torch as a single light source displays how truly dark the world is at night. It's such a beautiful scene and really adds to the sense of fear that Wilson would have been experiencing during the night.
This is the best real life version of the game that I have seen. Great work! :)

Hi guys and thank you all for the appreciation to the project! For we who have created the fan film is a really important result and is a pleasure to see people from all over the world leave their comments. Maybe we can't overcome other people who have created a project about the same game (with much greater resources than ours), but we want to try.

This is great but, who was that who came out of the darkness? (I sware to God if that's Webber I will flip not in the good way).
I want to see Wilson collecting poops!!! Poop is one of the most key parts of this game :)

this was fantastic, I've seen quite a few I.R.L don't starve videos but this one is by far the best.
the reason being is you didn't try to copy the don't starve cartoonish style with something like the science machine or a gargantuan spider nest or awful C.G.I effects, it's don't starve in the real world and that's what I like about it.
Exactly! We did not want to create something too grotesque and imitate 100% cartoon style of the game. We wanted that the short was mysterious adventure with a touch of horror ... like an old movie by Tim Burton. ;)
LostMovies I must say that I admire your quality in filming.
I have always wanted to do a more legitimate project like this, but pretty much all of mine that I have made so far are more comedic "filthy Frankenstein" style videos, I plan on moving away from that though.
I actual enjoyed gritty reboots more but this is a close second its about 60/40 the voice over is the ONLY thing that ruined it for me
Omg that ending! This needs a follow up, please! You have to make more! I need to see a sequel for this!!!!!! Is there any chance you could turn this into a short series? Perhaps run a kickstarter for funding?!!!

You guys have serious potential, way better than GrittyReboots for example, you stick to the lore and don't make it cringey and or unnecessary stupid things.

What do you mean? No gears for the science machine? xD GRs video was meant for Dst so it's not so easy to keep everything intact lorewise and make a good looking fanmovie.
Nevertheless I think that this was well done as well.
NeViKble They made Maxwell Wendy's uncle, gave him the power of the world (wich he doesnt have in DST) and killed Maxwell as the puppetmaster with a spear. That's lore-breaking however you interpretate it :P
Thanks a lot Fen! I tried to turn this short as an adaptation (almost) realistic. I wanted more than anything that may emerge the characters' emotions and not interested me create something too grotesque. If we had more resources, such as the CGI used by GrittyReboots, I would have tried to do something even more interesting. (Lorenzo)
The voice acting is amazing, and the pacing is incredibly nice and relaxing to watch.

Also if you don't know who Charlie is you've got a bit to learn about the games lore and I'm not gonna spoil anything even though the only way I know of to find out about the lore is by going online to find it

She looked like Willow, mostly because she had white eyes and only Willow and Wendy have white eyes, but Willow also has black hair which Wendy doesn't x3
I know this comment isn't exactly relevant to the video, but there's a really cool mod on the Steam Workshop where you can play as Charlie. I don't want to spoil anything either but I just wanted to tell people about it.

this is really good, but I think Don't Starve isn't really a good game for a movie, don't get me wrong it's one of my favorite games, but it just doesn't have much of a story to it, kinda like minecraft, but with a background instead of just appearing on an island

It wasn't maxwell, it's clearly a girl and the credits state that it was Willow lol
The idea was that Wilson felt completely alone in the wild ... but then meets Willow and regains hope.
