I have an '85 Corvette and she runs fine and all is well at the moment. I have technical background including mechanics and electronics. Was a Tech of various disciplines for over 33 years. I believe these C4 Corvettes, maybe especially the early ones, can present quite a challenge... for any Tech, even the MIT quality. After doing tons of research, reading books, magazines, manuals, RUclipss, etc... I believe one of the best things one can do, if owning one of these C4 Corvettes, is to get up close and personal with all of it's electronics, keep studying schematics, and everything related, and search around RUclips often to see if you can find fresh material. Learn where all the components are, where the circuits go, have fun reading the wire colors comparing stuff to your schematics. So much so that when your brand new battery doesn't solve the problem of dead batteries every two days, or your dash blacking out when you hit a bump, or your windows opening and closing when you turn the radio on... you at least want to know where to start. I've got a kit full of fuses, relays, connectors, fusible links, a spool of 18 gauge wire, Dykes, Needle Nose Pliers, (other tools), a small Digital Multimeter, Alligator clip jumper wires, and more... all inside a nice medium sized fisherman's tackle box. Be your own Tech as much as possible and you will save hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars. Labor ain't cheap, and even some of the best Techs might eat up hours of expensive labor troubleshooting your problems. Just remember, if your Vette starts acting funny, and you begin to see wierd things going on with your electronics, don't be afraid, your car is not posessed, it's just electonically ill, and it needs your help... be it's doctor, be it's Tech... Be It's Hero... PS. Thanks Matt Shaughnessy (fellow Irishman if I'm not mistaken), I really enjoyed your video and I'm happy to see there's a sequel waiting for me. It's just the kind of material I can snack on all day. And Mowers! Your a mower man too?!?! I must have worked on a thousand small gas engine contraptions... you name it! Especially Lawn & Garden Tractors and Mowers! Tons of other stuff as well, electronic junk, computers, washers dryers... gas, natural gas outdoor cooking equipment... modern, vintage stuff... some specialties were garage door openers and treadmills, and Barbecues! I was a Tech for Sears and had a complete Mobile shop loaded with everything you could imagine, and tools up the wazoo! I could go anywhere, in the middle of nowhere, barns, cow pastures, fix anything, anywhere, HEAVEN... but my main, main, LOVE, and specialty were those Tractors. I had 13 vintage lawn tractors once... No Lawn! HA! I have an old Ford LT*) Lawn Tractor right now pending attention. Boy, you'd be fun to hang out with. Hope you don't think I'm weird but it's not often, in this line of work, you know, Tech of a Thousand Contraptions, that one meets one of like mind and interest to yap with. Just thought I'd let you know, seeing that you had only 25 views, that a hardy Yes, there are those who really appreciate your work creating the RUclipss, all kidding aside, and respect and admire your talents as a Technician. Just like the cars and mowers, keep those videos rollin'. - John V. Brennan
I need help!! I have a 88 and It sat over winter and now it won't crank at all! No clicking nothing and the battery is new and the connections are clean and no security light!
Matt I am having the same issue with my 85 same color and all will roll over has fuel pressure to the rail has spark will not start no - lights no power in the car but does rollover
Hi Matt, I have a 1985 corvette that will not start. I have tested the fuel pump and it is good I DID THIS BY RUNNING A p&N WIRE FROM THE BATTERY TO THE FUEL PUMP I have 50 psi at the fuel rail. I have checked to see if any wire were broken or chewed by mice (car had sat for three years) there were none. I had the instrument panel rebuilt and it does work. Now that does not on the center panel the only lights that doe work are door open and security when door is open. Tried a code reader and do not get any coded not even the code 12. I have replaced the computer and still nothing. I an out of thing to try can you help thanks. Jim McDonald
Am having problem with mine , what mine does , is that my dash board blinks , some times it stays working fine but when it hit bumps or it gets really hot does it , and radio not working a/c just to work , not any more , And now my head light won’t come out ! Any tips or any info I really need to know
Did you find out what your issue was? I am having the same exact issues. Bumps seem to cut out my dash. It will come back on but can take 5 seconds or 5 minutes. Probably a wiring connection but I don’t want to rip the cluster out if it’s possible an engine ground or grounding wire somewhere other then the dash.
where is the main interlock relay located ? and what is the procedure for replacing the fusable links? I bought an 87 and the battery was low. I put it on a charger and hear a relay humming next to the fenderwell. Car turns over but will not start due to no fuel pressure. Pump works when I jump terminal G to battery and will run this but something is cutting off my fuel pump with normal key operation. I have to think something blew as a fuse but stumped on where. Some say the oil pressure switch is bad . I feel like it has something to do with charging it. Battery did completely short out and I out and I put new Optima in it. Thoughts?

Start by cleaning every single ground and fusible link.
Sure you have psi cause my fuel hoses were rotten in the tank all the way to the motor
I have a 1985 corvette when the RPM hits 3 with the motor turns off and it’s start right up again
Am having problem with mine , what mine does , is that my dash board blinks , some times it stays working fine but when it hit bumps or it gets really hot does it , and radio not working a/c just to work , not any more ,
And now my head light won’t come out !

Thoughts?
It’s probably the fuel pump relay. Located below the cruise control actuator.
