Great interview Jack … you’re a natural podcaster 😉 & nice to meet someone besides Weatherman - tho’ from the doco trailer you will no doubt introduce many other personalities. Can’t wait. AT definitely became more attractive to me after the PCT & particularly after watching a complete daily vlog last year. Previously i had viewed it a damp tunnel, overcrowded, wet, mice-ridden & tick-filled. Now I anticipate walking it one day. But PCT will always be my first love I’m sure. In ‘21 I met a hiker walking it’s entirety for the 3rd year in a row. I fully understand why he did that now & i plan another 4 full thrus of it still left in me - or at least that’s my goal (I first attempted it in that previous extraordinary high snow 1982). It’s the ‘community solo’ experience that i personally valued most - & treasured the 26 nights camped alone on trail - don’t think that would be possible on the AT. C🇦🇺
Thank you guys, mad respect. Thanks for the vlog, I thoroughly enjoyed this years class on YT. Interesting perspectives, I grew up in Virginia Appalachia and on the AT. The AT is very technical, don’t underestimate the elevation gains and those Old Mountains can and will hurt you if you let your guard down. That said, I LOVE the PCT, I have been on her twice since 2019 and will be back in ‘25 for K2K (KMS to KMN) attempt, and it hurts me I didn’t go out west as a young man. Jack, I hope we get to provide some trail magic to you on the AT. Thanks for the chat, enjoyed it! PS, I’m 61, so keep hiking all your life! Best to you both, Woodpecker.
It is great to see you again and I’m pleased to see that the blonde facial hair is going strong! At 6’3” you must be a sight to behold, no one is got to mess with Jack.
I was so thankful that my sister had walked 200 miles with me and met me asking the way and met my friends I knew from the trail. She understood! I took the long way back home after finishing the AT, like 10 days visiting people I met on the trail. It was so good. Post trail depression is real for sure.
Thanks Outlaw and Inspector for sharing this conversation. I’m always interested in hearing what trail someone would hike again- cool that Inspector chose the AT. I enjoyed this conversational format between thru hikers. Peace and happy trails.
Jack and Ed, your 32 minute talk was really enjoyable and I learned a lot about what thoughts go through your minds when doing a through hike. I imagine that there are some people that have no interest in talking to anyone or making any lifelong friends? But those people we’d never know about because they certainly wouldn’t share anything on social media and they might not even have a smart phone.
