    The internet got triggered by some of the fouls Jalen Brunson drew in their 1st round series clinching Game 6 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Coach Nick brought on Ronnie Nunn, a 19 year NBA referee and head of officials for 5 more, to help break down one of the plays to see whether the foul was legit.

    Every star player knows how to draw fouls, the thing about Brunson I respect is he’s not out there flailing his arms or legs out and just throwing up an airball thinking he got fouled then turning to yell at the ref. • @chrisstfort7
      @chrisstfort7 4 месяца назад +3

      @@BrooklynBalla Exactly. I wrote this on a Philly podcast page and they can’t cope with this. 👇🏾
      Brunson does not jump backwards. Here’s the difference between him and Trae for clarification:
      Trae Young veers/launches himself off his path INTO defenders initiating contact.
      Brunson stops abruptly, goes STRAIGHT UP and remains in his shooting cylinder, at that point the undisciplined defender RUNS INTO HIM! (For your own curiosity PLEASE slow down the footage of the Oubre and Batum fouls and tell me he’s not stopping abruptly and going straight up. He’s not fucking jumping backwards, cope all you want). That’s the key. He’s IN HIS SHOOTING CYLINDER and going straight up.
      It’s so simple to understand 🤷🏾‍♂️ And especially in Oubre’s case he’s crowding and leaning over Brunson which is legal for Oubre to do, but once Brunson begins to rise into his shooting motion Oubre is not allowed to hinder his upward motion.
      Let’s get to the head snap on the Batum and Oubre fouls: Brunson does snap his head back mid-air but only AFTER the defender runs into him (again, slow down the footage and watch for your own curiosity)to signal to the ref that he was fouled. While I dislike the head snap, it has no effect on the fact he was fouled prior. You want to stop committing fouls? Then be more disciplined and avoid RUNNING INTO players once they begin a legal shooting motion. It’s so simple. His footwork and timing is so elite defenders struggle with.

Its almost impossible to avoid the contact for the defender, especially as you can clearly see that brunson cuts them off (which is legal). These drive and stop moves with the defender behind are just next level plays and also don't agree that he's looking for contact, the defenders just don't have the discipline to guard him from behind without fouling. What I do think is borderline foul-baiting is when he's driving round a pick or trying to get past a defender and he snaps his head back. Not to the same extend as Reaves who will likely need neck surgery in the off-season, but I still see it from Brunson here and there. I wish he wouldn't do it.

    • @chrisstfort7
      @chrisstfort7 4 месяца назад +2

      I agree on the head snap back when he’s driving and I wish he would remove this from his repertoire. I think he does it to signal that he’s being grabbed or bumped off his spot.
      His jumpers however are not baiting. He stops abruptly and jumps straight up and remains in his shooting cylinder. The undisciplined defender then runs into him as he’s elevating…or in Oubre’s case he’s crowding the space above Brunson and impinging Brunson’s elevation making it a defensive foul. It takes elite footwork to master this.
      At no point does Brunson veer/launch himself off his path into a defender to initiate contact like a Trae Young frequently does, that’s the difference. Brunson jumps straight up and remains in his shooting cylinder.

The only difference were these two cases the defender lost control trying to chase him from behind expecting him to go a bit deeper in the paint, but because of his size, Bronson has to stop a bit before others.
    Meanwhile Embiid was committing all types of egregious and potential injury causing fouls and hardly any 76ers fans said a thing.

    Brunsons moves are legit. He uses the fact that the defenders are way to close behind him, stops on a dime and lifts vertically (against Oubrey jr.) or even slightly forward away from the defender (Batum). The defenders are the ones responsible for the contact. A different thing would be the moves of Trae Young who often tries to make contact to the defender by moving laterally or even backwards. Those moves are not legit.

    Another aspect is that Brunson is quite short for an NBA player, so the top of his head is very often under the chin of the larger player typically guarding him. If he's being guarded by a smaller player like Dame for instance, this type of contact doesn't occur.

    Coach, I was texting w/ my brother this morning, and he suggested that Brunson might be the best free agent signing in the history of ALL sports. I did a little digging, and only found a couple that truly compare favorably.
    1. Drew Brees to the New Orleans Saints. Coming off an injury, not established as much more than a basic NFL QB,
    2. David Ortiz to the Red Sox. 58 HRs in 6 seasons w/ the Twins. 3 titles, an MVP, and makes it to the Hall of Fame.
    The Knicks have been a basketball graveyard for the entire century so far. We've needed a top PG since Clyde retired.
    Brunson has gone from a backup PG to a probable All-NBA team, AND leading the NBA in postseason scoring while Luka, Jocic, Embiid, LeBron, Harden, Shai, Edwards and Kyrie are all in their primes and playing incredible....
    Thoughts?

    That’s because he’s a lot stronger than he looks trust me as a Knicks fan he used to get fouled a lot and they didn’t call it so defense took advantage…so now he makes it obvious for them to call one by baiting remember last year Miami series the refs said he flopped then 2min report would say he was fouled multiple times so this season he adjusted

    Man, I don't want to hear anything about a little point guard like brunson "foul-baiting" because what brunson is doing is using his quickness and low center of gravity to create these situations and, most importantly, hes still almost always looking to make the shot. Unlike guys like embiid or old school harden who obviously have no intention of actually making some of these "shots". Brunson is a bit of an enigma, he should be andre miller out there but instead, hes this odd mix of kyrie and kyle lowry that makes him one of the all time great short guy scorers

The guy is soooo great, sooo skilled that people can't believe their eyes. Thaty have never seen someone playing like Brunson in the history of basketball.

    observation: Brunson jumps a lot from 2 feet to get the power upwards that you need to bow the knee a bit to get fro 1 footed jumps.
    with the diffrence in momentum he also jumps more vertial than players would expect out of the movement.
    lower cetner of gravity clearly plays a role in the movement here.

  • @arielmunoz9835
    @arielmunoz9835 4 месяца назад +1

    he’s gathering the ball and shooting it all in one motion therefore out-timing his opponent…in traffic laws when you get hit from the back its always going to be the fault of the guy behind you..its up to Batum to watch that Brunson doesn’t stop short and bangs into him…what’s a non-basketball play is when a player breaks through the defenders hands or arms while he’s merely playing defense without reaching for the ball…it totally defeats the purpose of playing defense which is naturally part of the game.

    It's funny that every single game the narrative is "he's not the quickest or most explosive or tallest" then wonder if he's foul baiting because he has to do different things to get his shot. He doesn't have those tools so he heavily relies on changing tempo and footwork. No way you can call that foul baiting meanwhile Embiid is turning down wide open short range jumpers that he makes 99 out of 100 times to try and seek contact right under the rim with a layup

    One thing i hate about foul baiting the most
    I can see when it happens so the refs surely can see it either
    I don't wanna see all these "rip through", "found the contact", "leaning towards the defender" stuff
    They said it's the rules
    Really? Are they even written? I doubt it. And even if they does exist, my question is why?
    So my conclusion is, the NBAs interpretation of the rules sucks and they want them to suck
    Nowadays it's better than a couple of years ago tho, when i really started to hate NBA refs
    I can't hear this "oh he is so smart he found the contact" anymore. This is not basketball when somebody is trying to fk the fans and viewers and gets rewarded.
    Not talking about Brunson in particular but we all know some names like Harden or Young or Embiid, this should not be the case. Stop rewarding foul baiting, nobody prevents you from that. And stop talkin bs about how smart it is.

    • @cordlc
      @cordlc 4 месяца назад

      I know they've taken steps to reduce the baiting before, I don't think it's easy though. As much as people complain about Embiid, he does get legitimately fouled a lot, too. I honestly think they need to start punishing embellishment, it'll make things a little easier to see when players aren't flailing around, and the refs can focus on actual illegal contact.
      But yeah, just earlier this series we had Brunson on the floor and Lowry purposefully trips himself on him to get 3 FT's, things like that is just completely ridiculous. Obvious non-basketball plays should not be rewarded.

    Embid shot 21 free-throws i repeat 21 free-throws in one game . He also has more free throws than Brunson in the season despite playing half as many games . Embid averages 12 free-throws a game 12 . JB averages not even half of that . Considering how many Flagrant 2 fouls Philly clearly committed that weren't called.JB foul hunting isn't why Philly lost more, so Embid disappeared in the 4 quarter 4 out of 5 games averaged 1 rebound in the 4 quarter 4 out of 6 games .Philly, stop making excuses for Embid. It's time to move on from him, period .😂
