Redbox was already dying when they got bought. I knew once Chicken Soup for the Soul bought them that it was only a matter of time before the tombstone was planted.
@Wolverine626 such an odd move though, who buys them at that point except somebody who likes to waste money. Also, where had chicken soup been sense the 90s!? That's a name that vanished until now lol
*_The Magnificent Seven_* remake with Denzel Washington (who never lost steam) and Chris Pratt (a rising star) performed better than *_Horizon_* at $162M, and the movie was still a flop. What do these movies have in common besides bombing? The budgets were too high at around $100M. The *_True Grit_* re-adaptation made bank with its $35M budget.
@Wolverine626 yep, keeping them lean is key! I'm honestly surprised the budget for this single film hit as high as it did. There are a few bombastic action scenes but all in all it's quite a slow and mostly dialog filled film.
I think even if the first movie had preformed better, the 2 month separation on release was always a bad idea. I think you need to try and let a film breathe before releasing the sequel or “chapter 2” type second film.
yeah it was wild that they were pumping our a second movie. They did this with the Matrix Reloaded and Revelations but with them being sequels it worked better
@@CriticlessCast and with the original matrix being such a hit I'm sure it made the strategy more possible; it was a bold strategy for this franchise for sure.

@@CriticlessCast The last I remember hearing about them was their short lived TV series on PAX-TV (now called ION) years ago, when I was a kid.
You can check out movies at your local library 😄
oh thats right! I always forget you can get things besides books at libraries!
That Chicken Soup tangent was exactly what I needed today. 😂
Isnt that wild?
@@CriticlessCast Absolutely baffling.

@@CriticlessCast Yeah. It doesn't seem like they took the *_Lord of the Rings_* approach, which is weird for a story of this scale.

@@NerdTakes right! I think the only reason the Matrix was a viable option was because the first was a hit
I did like Redbox it was the cheapest way to rent movies
@wrollan agreed, it had it's place for sure.
