Or is their suspicion alone enough? Say in theory if I run a legit business, make a legit income but all my money is made and stored off shore and I dont wish to disclose my personal business to police could they then just take my stuff until Im forced to prove my source of income? If so isnt that a bit.....fascist?

  • @celluskh6009
    @celluskh6009 Год назад +4

    Australia already has a proceeds of crime law(s). If someone is a criminal they should be in jail. Otherwise, stealing is theft, and a group of armed men stealing things is armed robbery. You don't make up for incompetence by setting up bands of legally protected armed robbers. You just create another level of crime - one that ordinary people can't defend themselves against. Civil asset forfeiture is used around the world to rob pensioners of their life savings, cash businesses of all their income, to financially ruin the personal enemies of police officers or politicians. Rolling over and accepting the government has legalised armed robbery is not 'progress' on crime.

    Here is the thing with legitimate rich people. They don’t flash their wealth around for one. They would prefer to invest their money then to splurge it on designer goods. Wealthy people don’t show off and they live private lives most of them. However people who boast about what they have and show off all their flashy merchandise do need to come under the radar. It’s a good thing that banks want to know where the income is coming from before you make a purchase on a home so you need to declare all your personal information. I live on the NSW central coast near millionaires row as they call it near luxury homes that are situated right on the beach perched high on cliff tops and I know fist hand that most of these properties and luxury cars are purchased with drug money. I might wonder down there again and take notes with my body cam. If I see anything that doesn’t seem right I will report it. The police need to track peoples phones that way we can shut these mongrels down.

    They can't help themselves, the money rolls in and the peacock rolls out. Not that everyone who all of a sudden become wealthy are all criminals. It is when people who not much earlier couldn't scrape enough money together for a deposit on a used Harley Davidson move into large City Apartment Complexes, buy a home on the coast or on a bush block also a Lamborghini to get there that it becomes as obvious as if "up to no good" was tattooed brightly on their foreheads. Living long can sometimes mean living modestly. No attention is the best attention.

    unexplained wealth laws... the state of Australia atm. The country is completely fkd.
    There should never be an assumption of guilt (which is what this is). Its up to the state to prove ill gotten gains.
    Yes these ppl are likely criminals but these laws are waiting to be abused and used on the average citizen who risks losing assets simply because they cannot prove where they came from.
