Walnut turns out much nicer when the log sits for a while after being cut. Most the sapwood turns brown. We pile it all tight then steam it all the wood turns dark brown. Then it put on sticks to kiln dry then graded and piled tight and sold by grade Select& better. 1 common. 2 common. And 3 common. All sold separately Then 6/4. 8/4 and 12/4 of the nice stuff Great looking log George nice lumber buddy
Beautiful! When you go to slide the can’t might be easier to leave the toe board up while sliding. It reduces the friction significantly. Of course don’t slam the log or cant onto the toe board.
That was a good looking old Log. Gotta cut around the pith I’ve been known to mow right through them too. But like you said probably gonna crack just saw it out in the shop! What you gonna use then 5/4 boards for? Quick Look at Kiln you gonna love it.
Good job George! Did you lose the stick, I haven't seen it in a while. My guess was right! I figured that's why you made the octagon cant in prior video.
Black walnut soda pop. I mean, I like tree-based beverages...root beer...birch beer...why not black walnut beer? Or ginger beer with your ice cream to make a black walnut...float! (For those with impaired razzing detection: don't worry; I know BW is probably not food safe.)
Nice log, your nephew knows how to pick'em! The kiln is looking good, Ms. Beth will have that roofing up in no time, tell her to dress warm!

We cleared snow all day today. 36" on the deck off the back of the house. Supposed to keep coming here too.
Brought my insulated jeans...

@@TheWildWestMill I'm a slab guy, usually only cut lumber when I need it. So I don't know all the tricks for lumber. Thanks.

You almost need the assistance of a winch from above to take some of the load off while moving those cants.
@@erikleorga I saw logs that are over 3000 lbs. The building isn't designed for the weight. That's what the skidsteer is for.
@@mcsawmill I should have phrased that better. I get where you're coming from. The thought I had was to alleviate/reduce some weight, just not all.
