The Blanks were such a special group. My college a capella group got to open for them when they performed on our campus and they were all just sweet and supportive music nerds like us. RIP, Sam Lloyd
I love this song. I love playing it for pep band especially in HS because everyone knows how to play at that level and it just hits different with all the different instruments playing. Soooo many great versions of these types of music.
This is going straight to my writing playlist. Bro’s gonna make me cry. Update: he did. It’s really nostalgic. Reminds me of school dances before the shutdowns. I never got the normal high school experience sadly and I guess I’m kind of living vicariously through this now. So thank you for that. I really needed it. It’s crazy how much we can live through music.
That's (by far) the most beautiful version of this I've ever heard!!! I got introduced to this certified banger when I was little - incredible work Frankie. (Always a great day when you upload, you absolute legend)
I read the comments and found that I wasn't the only who who cried. Man, that was good! The guitar are the beginning gave it that "it" factor. I know when something moves me when I get goose bumps. I hope you'll make more, FF.
Love the loose, meandering time of the melody in the first verse. Love the cacophony and swells of the ensemble coming out of the solo. Thank you for all of the space and not just ramming 16ths there.
Beautiful! This gave me chills, especially towards the end, the blend just feels so good. I know other people have already mentioned this, but I love the bari
No, thank you, @@FoolishFrankie ! I can only give you a comment, while you give me this mellow interpretation that I can listen to many times and share with the people I love. I really enjoy your videos and I like the fact you include some mistakes too, whevener they happen (I'm sure that's 0,1% of the time, haha!)
Was wondering why this seemed familiar. A couple of years ago, we got shown a video by our history teacher, it was "National Anthem of STRAYA (to the tune of Hey Ya)". Well anyways, amazing job Frankie! It was a great listen and allowed me to remember something from a couple years ago.
That arrangement is originally by Matt Weddle. Had to look it up but the blanks credit him in their RUclips video description. I covered this version with a buddy at a college open mic in 2007 or 2008!
my mum listens to this song so i know how it goes, this was super cool to listen to and as a high school saxophonist i look up to you. i hope you continue to improve and play even better than you already are. byebye :D
This is truly incredible. Such a warm, dark sound from all of the horns. I absolutely love playing music like this, especially in a sax-ensemble setting. Is there any chance that you would share your arrangement? Otherwise I'll have to make my own haha!
Thank you so much! And it's not really clean enough to be shared yet (in terms of formatting etc) but maybe I'll put it on my Patreon with some of my other arrangements!
Hi I love your videos I play the tenor sax in grade 8 jazz and concert band and Im really loving it I was wondering for your advice if you see this, Should I buy a tenor sax or rent? and also can you reccomend me one that is good but not super expensive because you know musical insturments are very expensive but it might be cheaper in the long run thanks
Thank you! And honestly it’s so hard to give advice on something like this because I will never know enough about your situation to say what makes sense for you
I don't like that song. And I love this. I recently found your channel. Just sub'd. You make everything better. Edit: I really wish I had the capacity to understand how much goes into putting something like this together with different instruments and the time signature and all that. Maybe then I could fully appreciate how much practice and how much hard work it takes.
I’m curious, why did you make the arranging choice to have the melody in the lower range of the alto rather than on tenor? It made for a really unique aesthetic compared to a lot of sax ensemble covers I’ve seen (that either have lead played by mid-high alto or tenor)
Two main reasons: I like playing alto more than tenor, and also I wanted the option to go up to the higher register of alto at the end to make it feel bigger
@@FoolishFrankie thank you! That makes sense; I feel the same on the preference. Also, definitely was big when the high altos came in at the end only for that special moment.
@@FoolishFrankieThat was an excellent way to go! This is my favorite version - it speaks to me better than the original. What a job that must have been. The result is so worth it though - it’s a great performance, the mix is on point. That what real music is!
Hey Franky, my name is Giuliano, a young trumpet player and musician from Canada. As the jazz scene where I live is a small and it has been a struggle to find talented musicians to jam with, I would love to play with you and would be eager to record videos with you(all virtually) if the opportunity is presented as I would love to be a part of your great work here on RUclips. If your interested, I would also love to learn from you as musician and content creator. If you are interested, reply so in the comments, I will give you my contact info and we can go from there!😊 Thanks, Giuliano

Wow that’s so sick!!! What a cool experience. Glad to hear they were great guys too.

So refreshing. The slow build to the end was so powerful, especially without relying on percussion.
Thank you🥺
I love how just a few saxophones add up to the power of a whole line of trumpets and almost have that same ring to it. It’s very moving.
I love this version, it feels so nice to listen to, almost like a lullaby I love it!❤❤ Keep up the good work!
Glad you like it!🙏🏻

Thank you so much!! I actually recorded along with The Blanks version instead of a click for that reason!!
Never imagined that song like this. Amazing job!

You can tell an amazing sax player when they can borrow a Bari and play low notes without even trying 😂
Lmaooo I would say “without trying” is a bold choice of words, this took many takes😂

10/10 as always… If I may and you can, and if you’d like to. Would you cover It’s Over Isn’t It from Steven Universe
BARII ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bravo Maestro!
🙏🏻
RIP Sam Lloyd AKA Ted
Could you post a video of you playing the tin whistle you keep in your pocket at wedding gigs? What key is it and why do you have it?
No video necessary: It’s in the key of F and I bought it specifically for the solo on that song!
Ah yes just found it, thanks for playing St Anne's. I am a trad Irish flute/whistle player so I was curious. Cheers.
Sorry to say, but we'll need more bari from you. Don't give it back!
LOL

For legal reasons I can’t say

I really appreciate the kind words!! It’s definitely a lot of work, but the end result makes me feel so full🙏🏻
Is there a trumpet this guy can’t play?! 😜
Lmaooo😂
Man sure is talented on those bagpipes.
When playing low notes on the bari do you put your mouth on the end of the mouthpeice or farther on than the atlto/tenor
I think about the same
Cover de "from the start"(verson rock) plis!!
Yo Frankie, have you always had a bari or are you borrowing one? (btw bari is by far my favorite instrument)

Thank you and I know right:/
what kind of bagpipe is that bass bendy one?
Lmaoooo
How do you play all of the parts in time? I don’t see any headphone for metronome. How do you do it?
I recorded with headphones and along with a recording, then I filmed separately and played along with the recording coming out of a speaker
What Bari do you play?
And when did you get it?
I borrowed this entire Bari set up from a friend! I don’t have it anymore
anyone know what mic is used here?
Oops I didn’t put it in description, it’s a Lewitt LCT 240
How does this video have 69k likes with 1.5k views?

It’s fixed now I guess. Great content by the way.
Too slow
I’m not covering the original. I’m covering The Blanks version which is slower.
