First, it is probably a coincidence, BUT it is true that certain different data processing algorithms (with sufficient amound and certain quality of data) can indeed predict human behaviour with surprising accuracy to a rather unbelivable point, which can easily seem as "mind reading". The most surprising thing is that how predictable ppl actually are (taking into consideration their history/habits) in contrast to what they think how predictable they are. The science on this is pretty fascinating and the accuracy is frankly shocking. Also, tells a lot about the philosophical question of free will.

Fun fact: a lot of the product shortages over the last year were caused by a lack of these pumps as there are only a small number of manufacturers for them so production was not able to increase to meet the new demand of soap and cleaning products. Many companies switched to regular flip top bottles as a result, some have gone back to pumps but others haven't to keep profits up.

Omg that's awesome. I was trying to switch out a dispenser one time, and a little glass bead fell out. I was like, "Eh can't be that important," so I put the dispenser back in, and suddenly it didn't work. I was very confused, but this makes it crystal clear why that would happen, and how important even the tiniest element of a well engineered system can be.

Fantastic explanation and visuals. I've always known loosely that the pump pulls from the bottle as it raises up and ejects when pressed down, but now I know how! Can anyone elaborate and tell me why it's better to have this intermediate chamber where the soap is drawn into and pressed out of? (Rather than having the downward press directly drive fluid from the bottle out the top, such as with an auger mechanism that only engages in one direction)
