I have filmed the winter pruning for this tree. The season's growth and fruit set were something special. At that time I decided to leave the air layers on until spring wake up. Part 2 will cover all of that and reveal the variety. Plus, we will harvest, inspect and plant those huge air layers.
I ❤️ 🍦!!! Don't judge me! I know a guy with a ice-cream shop. You wouldn't believe how many food grade buckets those shops produce. Perfect size for starting trees.
It's a homemade mix. Here at our nursery we make compost from horse and goat manure and bedding. Hardwood chips and softwood shavings. Local topsoil (sandy loam). The hot composting process takes about 4-6 months. Alot of work but the figs absolutely love the end result.
I can't believe the size of the leaves... even another tree looks like larger in the video. I want to see more of your videos!
Thank you! I'm enjoying making them and there will be more. We are just getting started!
You got some nice looking trees. What do you use for fertilizer and how often?
I plant them in a mix of 50/50 local topsoil and homemade compost. They also give them compost tea.
Wow.first time seeing such a large airlayer😍.great video

Thanks. Helpful video. Just curious, you said it’s not LSU Gold but I don’t think you mentioned the variety of the tree.

Very cool, where do you get those ice cream containers?
I have a friend with an ice cream shop.
Great instructions. I am going to try that next year. Which soil do you use to airlayer the branche?
@@motorpenny Homemade compost/topsoil mix for the 3 gallon pots. Peat and perlite mix for the smaller tree pot size air layers.
Nice where'd you get those huge black containers from?
They are food grade 50 gallon barrels. I painted them black.
@@TravelingGardeners oh ok thanks.
