Even in our house, why, because one generation back my whole family is Jamaican... My grandparents would literally support West Indies cricket over England all of time. Jamaican culture everywhere... But, I'm British... Or am I? In other words, let her do what she feels most comfortable with. It can get very confusing to be in this position, speaking from experience. Personally I describe myself as British Jamaican. Support both in sports, but if it came down to it, would run for Britain. Since i live here.
She competed under the British flag until only 2 years ago, she changed because she cannot get into Team GB. It was purely to have a chance to run in the Olympics.
I think British Jamaican is a good term for the identity you've described! To me, if you sound British, have British citizenship and went to school in the UK, you're unquestionably British. It's good to care about your heritage and your family's culture but surely you've also absorbed (for lack of a better word) British culture just by living in the UK, haven't you? Genuine question. I'm not from the UK but did a student exchange in Kent for a year.
The Caribbean is a as we all know a hot bef for Sprinting. Glen Mills and Stephen Francis are well respected Sprint coaches. Kids and schools and Athletic programmes are full of Sprinters. Its a reverse of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda who produce long distant runners. The Jamaican national champs is a phenomenal competition but it only produces sprinters between 100m and 400m. The other events don't produce any world class times. Also the JAAA doesn't put any rescources into the other events. I'm sure you would have heard the complaints on social media from shot putters, and discuss throwers about the field event participants not getting the support that the sprinters get in Jamaica. Adelle is in unique position that she was raised in the UK that has a pretty good middle to long distance tradition with good coaches and support - and being able to represent Jamaica through her heritage. She isn't reliant in JAAA for resources. However the trials wouldn't be challenge for her due to limited competition, and would definately need to train away from Jamaica to get the best out of her potential and ability. Its is a slight concern that Jamaica are producing these very good event competitors outside the sprints and they are not getting any support. The shot putters and discuss throwers are very concenring because Jamaica could have won more field medals in Paris overall.
