I first watched this video in 2019. It was good. Now that I have done stuff like this - it was great. AND I can I just say how much I LOVe that black&white wool jersey? Classic.
You two just have fantastic attitudes! Just a pleasure watching you get through a challenge like this, all while keeping a smile on your faces. May sound corny, but the world needs more like you. Now, on to the ride. NEVER would have thought about a ride like this, but there really is an appeal to an adventure like this. Thank you for the sharing your ride with us.
Day three's downhill after lunch was unbelievably fun and worth all the pain of the climbing. All the downhills were great, but that especially was just a fantastic roller coaster ride. Wide and smooth gravel with great banked turns and almost no other vehicles. Just perfect.
I watch a LOT of your videos (in the last 2 months) but I am SO happy that I found this one. It is so enjoyable and so authentic. Thank you for documenting this journey.
Just finished this route thought it was great watched this video before going and just finished watching it again after riding ha great...The Bike Hostel was better then imagined. We had to push the bike Thru snow where it snowed on you.
I have traveled over a big chunk of the world but always say the most beautiful stretch I've seen was hitchhiking along the coast of Oregon back in the 80s when I was in my early twenties. Beautiful place.
Excellent video! Very well rounded, and it gives a great sense of doing the ride. Plus, seeing you guys together on camera is wonderful. You rock, and the way that you interact with each other rocks!
Looks like an awesome, but clearly very challenging few days of riding! With all that climbing, I likely would've brought my mountain bike with its very low gearing for this tour. Thanks for vlogging your ride. I'd love to do this ride one day!
You guys, this is probably the best bikepacking video I've seen. I don't think you should change a thing with regards to content or your delivery, it's very good. You make a good presenting team. One last thing though. The lady's haircut is a firm decision.
You guys are going through my favorite spot to go hunting lol the ochocos are my favorite place and I’m just starting to mountain bike and it’s awesome finding this video
Did this as a 4 day/3 night trip in October 2020 and it was so so good! We split up your 2nd day into two days by camping right on the banks of the John Day river. In October there was almost 0 water on the first leg of the trip, so it's crazy to see how many creeks you had to ford through/
I went and Bikepacked this route Highlights of this trip was visiting Spoke n Hostel and Tiger Town Brewery coming up and seeing John Day river. The Bikeshop you started off had great stuff but thought the staff kinda where jerks. Also enjoyed the Prineville Brewerys. The painted hills amazing. When I went we had some rain also had to tramp thru snow.
Hi from Australia, you're both so inspirational. My fellow supplelife friends love your rides. If you're ever in Australia we would love to take you on some sweet supple rides.
Get you some climbing gears.... I was watching a doc on the tour de France and they talked a bit about some of what they have to run for the rear climbing cluster and when I get my big dummy I'm going to gear it for a radical climb ... I'll call it my rad climbing cluster 🤣😎
Looks like another amazing ride albeit challenging. The hurt locker for legs! Lol Side topic question. How do you like or what do you think of the Big Agnes Fly Creek tent?
You road this trip on a Salsa Warbird and then did Kanza on the Cutthroat. Entirely different rides and one with gear and one without. What would you pick in hindsight?
Question do you know the brand jacket/rain gear the gentleman giving you directions around the down tree zips wearing. It looks so cozy and warm!! Btw loving your videos!! Using them to build my bike. I'm disabled (lots of new parts) so I had to custom build!! Thanks for all the great videos!!!!!
Great video. I've been wanting to do this route, but there are heavy warnings about the goatheads. Can you say what the group experienced with flats and if you were running tubeless?
11:52 "We're not gonna dawdle here, huh, cuz there's more snow coming." One of those moments where you should be listening to the lady and not making her say it twice.
If you were to do this again and you used 650b wheels, what tires would you use? I'll be on this route in September, I'm trying to do research for it. Thanks!
Filmmaking/Camera Question. Just came back to watch this video in its entirety yet again for the umpteenth time after watching your Camera Kit Video. Do you film with the G5X strictly in 60p (for the option to slowdown in post later) for videos like this or do you swap fps in camera, between 60 and im guessing 24p, during shooting depending on subject/situation?
New to the Channel and Gravel/packing Biking. Great Videos. Got a Question. What are the Collapsible Bowls you were using? Anymore Videos on Bikepacking Gear? Do/Don'ts. Thanks.
I actually liked the seat bag, having never used one with a removable bag system. That was handy for sorting stuff in the tent. I did wish it had a bleed valve for the dry bag.
this was fantastic Russ & Laura! Loved it. Also - can someone please flesh out this notion of "bike packing" is basically off road bike touring wherein the rear rack is VERBOTEN!!! I know there's more nuance to it than that, but honestly, it feels like "front racks, yes!" "Rear racks, NO!!!", Other than that... I find the whole "bike packing" movement a little... silly as if it's this new concept when in reality it is a few tweaks on gear/bikes that have existed for decades. no?
We haven't gone in "all in" bikepacking because it is cost prohibitive. The bags are spendy and there are a lot of them, but also your camping gear has to be really really small volume. Our normal touring gear won't fit in them. Also, I ride a small frame so I lose a lot of storage and I hate backpacks. This trip was our first opportunity to try out a complete system. It makes sense for lots of rugged terrain or where your priority is speed over comfort. But to say categorically that bikepacking is better than traditional touring is incorrect. That is like saying, everyone should ride a carbon road bike and wear lycra. Depends on your needs/wants and budget as a cyclist!
The best definition of "bikepacking" I've seen is that it must focus on things other than paved roads. Obviously this is a wide range of terrain, so things like a rack and panniers might work great on long dirt/gravel roads (as long as they're sturdy) but if the route involves miles of singletrack you need to distribute the weight more around the bike and keep things narrow/high to clear trail obstacles. The other obvious thing is that if you're doing this on really rough mountain bike trails, your full suspension trail bike can't accommodate a rack and the new breed of "soft bags" offer a lot of other packing options. In the end its all bike riding, just with different goals and different needs. No need to worry so much about marketing copy and just have fun!
Looks like you rode upon the Salsa Marrakesh? I have one that I'm climbing aboard soon :) What do you two think of the bikes & have you done any reviews on them? If so could you fire me the link? Many thanks, Happy pedalling. Thanx - Jay.
5 minutes in and I'm loving the views. Would it have helped if you wore plastic bags inside your shoes for the water crossings? Nut butter makes a lot of things better but for you guys to say Day 2 was a challenge I translate that to a challenge x3. Day 3 brought it but you dealt with it well. 😀 #cyclingwalkingeatingtalking

Thank you for the sharing your ride with us.
Thank you both for sharing the real deal and never glossing over how tough and uncomfortable it was. Information is crucial.
Day three's downhill after lunch was unbelievably fun and worth all the pain of the climbing. All the downhills were great, but that especially was just a fantastic roller coaster ride. Wide and smooth gravel with great banked turns and almost no other vehicles. Just perfect.

Amazing; doing this ride and filming the whole thing! These Path Less Pedaled videos just keep getting better. Thanks!
Going through your catalog. Loving these videos. Great production value and content.

Woow! You guys make the best videos! :) Super inspiring! And the little mirrors!!!? I like.
Awesome video guys! Sooo good to ride with you both, finally!
Watching your videos makes me want a gravel bike....Grew up on a gravel road, but I only ride Road and Mtn bikes.
Looks like an awesome, but clearly very challenging few days of riding! With all that climbing, I likely would've brought my mountain bike with its very low gearing for this tour. Thanks for vlogging your ride. I'd love to do this ride one day!
Your best work so far IMHO. The "survival" aspect provided a lot of interest.
Great video, and also a surprise Mike Ferrentino!
Awesome videos, awesome sceneries, keep it up, and have fun!
Excellent video! The scenery is good looking, the ride looks like a challenge, and you both finish it looking good!
I really love the channel. What a riot watching you guys. So inspirational !
Killer soundtrack...had to shazam that MACAW song. Lovely journey through time and space
Have you found the title of song which is in the second part of the video? I've tried to use shazam, unfortunatelly with no effect :
That was a challenging ride. Congratulations on finishing. I got exhausted watching the video ! You two were great .
You guys, this is probably the best bikepacking video I've seen. I don't think you should change a thing with regards to content or your delivery, it's very good. You make a good presenting team.
One last thing though. The lady's haircut is a firm decision.
Awesome tour. Thanks for sharing. I miss Oregon...
nice! love these vids where you guys just capture the rides and scenery!
Thanks! Hoping to do more of these.
Great ride! You guys are fortunate, you'd never find that ride in most states. Thanks for sharing
I love the kinds of trips you two take
Thanks for your vidéos, we Will follow you on your future adventure 🙂

Well done! Although, I can't decide if this has made me want to do, or never to do a ride like this! 😂
Oh man. So entertaining. Excellent video.
Cool journey, must have been nice 2 be away from all the cars, thanx 4 sharing !!
Great video, great ride! Thank you for sharing with us. I want to take my Surly ECR on one of these rides.

So cool. No dawdling. I'd like to see a vid on your set ups (gear and howit was packed) for this ride. Thanks.
love the videos guys! keep going!
Awesome video. Liked everything you did. ..
Thank goodness something replaced the ride to Lone Rock as the most epic weather route :)
Ooo would love to see what you guys rode through. I live in Bend
Hi from Australia, you're both so inspirational. My fellow supplelife friends love your rides. If you're ever in Australia we would love to take you on some sweet supple rides.
Great video!
Omg i wish they had something like this in south florida i would definately join this is awesome !!!!!
love all that BlackBurn gear!
Nice ride. You have to come to Italy for the Tuscany Trail or some other trails done here, you would enjoy them!
New Belgium looks better dan the "Old" Belgium where i live ;)
Great video...
Nice work man.
Your new motto: Anything that doesn't kill us will make for a really good video later.
And stories to be retold, and laughed over, for years to come.
Amazing!!! greetings from Italia!

Thanks for watching!
Greetings from Belgium 😎
It was epic!
Thanks for sharing....
saludos from Barcelona

Amazing😊
Keep up the good work

Those water crossings are perfectly achievable on the bike
nicely done!
ahead of the curve by a landslide
Great video, thanks :)
I will do this someday! I live in bend, so luckily I wouldn’t have to travel far!
Looks like another amazing ride albeit challenging. The hurt locker for legs! Lol
Side topic question. How do you like or what do you think of the Big Agnes Fly Creek tent?
Wow, those views... @5:10 you feel that a Windows background image cannot be far away
nice video pals...
11:38 Hey it's the guy from Bike Mag!
Nice! He was the moto support guy at the event.
Mike Ferrentino!
Awesome
Awesome video, probably my favourite one of yours!
Just being curious. Why would you walk the water crossing instead of riding it? Just being curious.
+gemoli didn't want to risk a fall so early in the day when it was freezing and we had so long to go.
You road this trip on a Salsa Warbird and then did Kanza on the Cutthroat. Entirely different rides and one with gear and one without. What would you pick in hindsight?

Awesome. Thanks!
My question is do you know the brand of rain gear the guy giving you directions in min 11:20
+David Cannamela not sure what jacket it was. It was definitely a moto jacket and not a cycling one tho.
troy lee designs
Great video. I've been wanting to do this route, but there are heavy warnings about the goatheads. Can you say what the group experienced with flats and if you were running tubeless?
Heard of a few flats. Most ran tubeless. We ran tubes and managed to not flat.
Cool video. What is the bowl she's eating from? Looks like it's foldable.
What are those collapsible bowl things you were eating out of? Great video.
wannado, wannado, wannado..... Great video!
Awesome. Hey can u tell me what tire tread you have?. Thank you
11:52 "We're not gonna dawdle here, huh, cuz there's more snow coming." One of those moments where you should be listening to the lady and not making her say it twice.
New Belgium, home of cycling and brews . #fortcollins
If you were to do this again and you used 650b wheels, what tires would you use? I'll be on this route in September, I'm trying to do research for it. Thanks!
Schwalbe G Ones in 2 inch.
Filmmaking/Camera Question.

I have 2 custom functions set so I switch bw 24p for pieces to camera and 60p for b-roll.
Path Less Pedaled *watches video again*.... uh huh. I see it now.
New to the Channel and Gravel/packing Biking.
Great Videos.
Got a Question.
What are the Collapsible Bowls you were using?
Anymore Videos on Bikepacking Gear?
Do/Don'ts.
Thanks.
Bowl was an old folding bowl they sold at REI. Haven't seen it there in a while.
TONS of bikepacking gear vids. We have a whole playlist on bike bags!
A real adventure that's for sure, thanks for sharing.
What's your take on the blackburn seat bag, I'm thinking of getting one :)
I actually liked the seat bag, having never used one with a removable bag system. That was handy for sorting stuff in the tent. I did wish it had a bleed valve for the dry bag.

Did you use some kind if color filter? This has an amazing retro look in my opinion:-)
Looks like you rode upon the Salsa Marrakesh?
I have one that I'm climbing aboard soon :)
What do you two think of the bikes & have you done any reviews on them?
If so could you fire me the link?
Many thanks,
Happy pedalling.
Thanx - Jay.
Rode on the Salsa Warbirds!
Awesome video! What camera did you use if you don't mind me asking?
Nothing fancy. Canon G5X.

Laura actually had Showers Pass waterproof gloves so she was fine. I on the otherhand didn't have any and my feet were cold and wet all day :(
Nice video, what is the brand name of your camouflage jacket you wear at min 4:04? Love it
Hi, very cool your channel!
Where did you buy this glasses mirror?
Thank you
Cool and all, but Why didn't you rode over the crossings? Is there a particular reason?
It was COLD and weighed the risk of getting our feet wet or ourselves wet in remote country. We went with just the feet.
Hi what are your clasable bowls called and where can I get one? Thank's Tom
👍👍👍💘💘💘
Thank you for seeing me
Brother how do you go about music selection and where do you go to find it ? Love your stuff , highly inspirational ..
