I'm from Pakistan and I vist Sri Lanka in 2014 and I still remember the humbleness and the lovely down to earth people of Sri Lanka , always love you Sri Lanka ❤
I went to Sri Lanka in 2019 and loved it. I found it nicer than India as it was cleaner, more organised, less congested and better tourism services. People were friendlier too.
It is a small Island. We use less plastic. Lesss soda. Less grocery unwanted plastic packaging. No plastic coated ( forever chemical plastic coated paper ) packaging. So we kave less accumulated rubbish. So it is easy to maintain cleanliness in anywhere in clouding the city. It is not a high consummaric country. We have lot of recycled vehicles . Lot of electronic stuffs etc.
13:20 it's kurakkan (finger millet) porridge. Normally we eat a piece of jaggery while drinking it, that's probably why the seller is showing the jaggery box. Sadly he looks like he is afraid to spit out a single english word in case it's wrong(like me😅) White one is garlic porridge. Orange one is sago. The green one is like a herbal rice porridge we call it "kola kanda" basically mean "green porridge"
Yey, Ellis and Alicia, your first taste of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this wonderful island, its spicy food and wonderful people. I'm jealous. The beaches are lovely but watch out for sea urchins.
Bro im not proud to admit this but at 16 I was homeless in Scotland. A Sri Lankan lady who owned a b&b in Dundee took me in and gave me a room for weeks. Im sad to say I repaid her by stealing her television and was promptly arrested. She will be very old now but i never forgave myself for it. Thats how lovely Sri Lankan people are.
Try to find her and ask for forgiveness. As a Sri Lankan I am sure she will difinetly forgive you happily. you can clear your mind and can be live with peace of mind.
The rainy season is going to start. It is a time when people are very busy because the Sinhala New Year is approaching. There are many foods to try kottu, cheese kottu, rice and curry, hoppers, and string hoppers, king coconut, falooda, There are many places like Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Galle. That walk at the beginning with the birds singing. Man I have been waiting for summer, to drink a cup of coffee and sitting in my local park listening to those birds. Can't wait, currently in London its cold, miserable and rainy, dull weather 😔

I would appreciate it, if you visit the northern suburbs of Colombo as there are some must-see places such as Kochikade St. Anthony's church, Ponnambalavaneswaram Sivan Kovil (Hindu Temple), Elakanda Fish Market, and Crow Island Beach.❤❤
What you drank is called kurakkan drink. Its an one of the best nutritious drink the old people used to drink daily. The past giants were made by drinking and eating kurakkan 😊
Hi Elis & Alisha, Sri Lanka here we go.... 1st Sri Lanka series video seem very calm except hot weather hehehehe. Surprised, Colombo city so clean. Waiting for your next Sri Lanka Videos. Have a great day.
@@EllisWR don’t know about Lancashire but there’s plenty of srilankan restaurants in London. And you’re always welcome to our place for homemade srilankan food ❤️
Ellis at 13:51 minutes, I think the drink is a porridge made from “Finger Millet” very rich in calcium and fiber commonly consumed in India and Sri Lanka. Usually consumed like a porridge with jaggery ( sugarcane cubes) or with onions and chili to bite along.
The bird you hear at the beginning is called Koha in sri lanka (asian koel in english). They start singing around sri lankan new years (april) which make the festivities kinda special like they are announcing the upcoming new year. But 2 minutes ago I found that in Singapore they start singing around december which is also close to their new year. This bird is onto something!
Your videos are far better than many other bloggers’ from UK. Really down to earth with fine details of each move. It’s a shame you don’t have as much following. I am sure one day you will be more famous than Donald trump 🎉
They are very kind words thanks so much we really appreciate that 🙏 I'm glad you enjoy we just film whatever makes us happy we're not doing stuff for the views. Have an amazing day 🙏
12:33 in the first pot it was Sago porridge second one what you drank was red millet/ Finger millet porridge , In the third one it waa made with some green medicinal plants like curry leaves, Gotu kola/ medicinal herb commonly known as Asiatic pennywort, Balloon vine.. etc grind them add water, coconut milk and rice and sugar some salt..thats it..
The drink you had on the pavement just after your breakfast is called " Kurakkan Kanda " which is is a very wholesome one made out of "Finger millet" very low in sugar and recommended for `high blood sugar " patients .
Well if you're still in SL don't forget to visit Jaffna and kandy. And here's some recommendations to try Egg hoppers, string hoppers, polos (jackfruit curry), kottu ( Similar to kothu parotta in TN, ripped up bread /Paratha fried in veggies and curry and meat),Puttu /pittu,Crab curry, biryani or as in sinhala buriyani, wood apple juice, king coconuts, srilankan tea, chilli parotta /Paratha,paal sothi, payasam, Jaffna koozh. There many more to SL food but these are some. Do try them if you can
I heard Asian koel singing at the beginning of the video. There are many birds like this in Thailand. Never knew there was such a bird in Sri Lanka...❤️
12:26 it’s herbal juice mixed with coconut milk it’s very healthy the green one it kolakenda its like soup made from herbal leavesthey use different types of herbal for that locals drinks as a breakfast you must try that
This Island has an Ancient knowledge about Plant medicine and engineering technology. That brown porrige Kurakkan is Finger Millet. We have a history of more than 30,000 years. Proven at Pahiyangala cave man. Our food is always healthy. You should try POLOS curry. Tender Jack . Travel Upcountry. See all the waterfalls.
At the 11:30 mark in the RUclips video, you'll see a variety of porridges showcased from left to right. The first one, called "Saw Kadha or Saw Kanji" is a Sago Porridge featuring sago, kithul (Caryota urens) or coconut jaggery syrup, coconut milk, and spices. Following that is "Kurakkan Kadha," or Finger Millet porridge (the one you've purchased), primarily made with finger millet, coconut milk, and coconut jaggery syrup. Next in line is the flavorful "Garlic Porridge," containing garlic, rice, coconut milk, and more. Unfortunately, the "Kola Kadha" wasn't available during filming. This traditional herbal gruel is typically prepared with rice, coconut milk, and the fresh juice of medicinally valued leafy greens, with the taste varying based on the leaves used. It's a common practice among Sri Lankans to consume this early in the morning on an empty stomach.
13:01 herbal porridge every Srilankan interested to take breakfast. Very affordable price same time high nutrition. Mostly this stalls are located to near hospital and schools,
Those thick smoothie like drinks you had are porridge. The left most one was sago and probably sweeter tasting. The one you had was finger millet. Third one was garlic and the green one was herbs.
56:18 and yeah SL food is spicier than Indian food. Indian food has diary and tomatos to balance the heat but SL food is just straight on spice and coconut its like proper rural South Indian foods.Thats hard on spice
11:30 Kurakkan Porridge or Finger Millet Porridge. It is very healthy flour. Kurakkan is an important element for your diet because of its uniquely high content of nutrients, including higher amounts of dietary fibre, protein, high B-vitamin content, as well as calcium, iron, potassium, zinc and magnesium
Here's a translation of what he said about buffalo curd: Cow's milk is viewed as "heaty" according to Ayurvedic medicine. This means that consuming cow's milk increases internal heat in your body. In contrast, buffalo milk has a cooling effect on your system. In Ayurvedic terms, the concepts of "heat" and "cool" are not related to the actual temperature of the food or drink, but rather the impact they have on your body. Most aches and pains are a result of excessive heat in your body. That's why in Sri Lanka people consume food that cools your body.
Hi, first of all, thank you for visiting my country. The first meal you two had was a curry with coconut sambal and dal. You said you don't know it, but it's an fired eggplant curry . and the two of you drank a drink, the Sinhala name of the drink was Kurakkan Porridge. English name is finger millet porridge. It is very healthy for the body ❤
😊😊😊.. you are more than a Sri Lankan to have rice for breakfast.. next time try typical SL breakfast .. hoppers, egg hoppers, honey hoppers, string hoppers, pittu..milk rice.. you will feel and taste the best.. SL from 🇬🇧
Narang, who gave you the person at the milk shop. You have to cut it and squeeze out the juice, put sugar, salt (a little), pepper (very little) and add water to it and mix it. A very tasty drink you will love it.. ❤
@@EllisWR it's okay guys and enjoy this food too Kottu, hoppers, string hoppers, coconut roti.. and if you go to Aluthkade, you will find a lot of foods. have fun enjoy your trip staysafe..
If you're visiting the Southern part of India, make sure to visit Kerala. There's a Hindu temple festival in Kerala called Thrissur Pooram, held on April 18th and April 17th in Thrissur city. This festival features 50 elephants and music. There are plenty of programs during this event. If you go there, you'll surely witness one of the most amazing festivals in the world.
I very much appreciate all this information!! Will have to try whenever we see them!! Thanks
Hope you guys enjoy!@@EllisWR
That brown porrige is made of Finger Millet. Full of Fibre. Many Sri Lankan farners eat a flat bread made out of this. In Sinhala its called Kurakkan.
13:01 herbal porridge every Srilankan interested to take breakfast.
Very affordable price same time high nutrition. Mostly this stalls are located to near hospital and schools,
Oooo thanks for the info!
Those thick smoothie like drinks you had are porridge. The left most one was sago and probably sweeter tasting. The one you had was finger millet. Third one was garlic and the green one was herbs.
Super interesting
Thank you for coming srilanka 🇱🇰 🇱🇰
I can hear the Thai birds ❤
56:18 and yeah SL food is spicier than Indian food. Indian food has diary and tomatos to balance the heat but SL food is just straight on spice and coconut its like proper rural South Indian foods.Thats hard on spice
It's my type of food! Love these spicy curries here
I see the road is wider, 👍
❤Sri-Lanka is very soupper ❤ frome Europe
Beautiful country!
Super interesting

Here's a translation of what he said about buffalo curd: Cow's milk is viewed as "heaty" according to Ayurvedic medicine. This means that consuming cow's milk increases internal heat in your body. In contrast, buffalo milk has a cooling effect on your system. In Ayurvedic terms, the concepts of "heat" and "cool" are not related to the actual temperature of the food or drink, but rather the impact they have on your body. Most aches and pains are a result of excessive heat in your body. That's why in Sri Lanka people consume food that cools your body.
Thanks for explaining!
Breakfast is contained Eggplant curry, srilankan style
The drink you taste in the street is a healthy soup made from a grain called “kurakkan”
Oooo interesting!
You can find more information about it online.
