Aaliyah came out on the music scene when I was 13 and then I told people when I become a mom and if it's a girl I'm naming her after Aaliyah because it was a beautiful name. I got a chance to meet her in 1997 at a restaurant my brother worked at and she was so humble and sweet and signed her name on the One In A Million CD I had and still have to this day. I was devastated when she passed and in 2008 my first child was born, I named her Aaliyah and she just turned 16 last week. RIP Aaliyah.
I think people look older now because a lot of things weren't available to us 80s and 90s babies u had to buy almost everything in person and we thought wigs and make up was for “old people” we looked our age
That intro!!!! Goosebumps! Aaliyah is really the blueprint for so many of todays artist not only with music but fashion and makeup. I had huge posters of her on my wall, her cds. I wish they gave her; her own doll 😩 Thankyou for the clips telling people the CORRECT PRONUNCIATION of her name because people will argue you down online about how to say her name when it’s pronounced AH-LEE-YAH not UH-LEE-YAH I mean it’s on her debut album lol
Im from Detroit, born in 85, and had the honor of witnessing the beautiful journey of Aaliyah "babygirl" during her time in this dimension, which was nothing short of amazing. We were all impacted by her, and her passing affected us all deeply. She was real, had natural street cred, and was who every man in the industry wanted to be with. Our generation prioritized reading and education. Aaliyah was a 4.0 student at DSA here in Detroit. She wasn't just beautiful, but she was also very intelligent and mature. She was cool and stayed away from drama, although there were many who were jealous of her in the industry. Her passing was fishy, and she definitely deserves justice. 2024 is the year of revelation. Long live babygirl.
She was dubbed the Princess of Hip Hop/R n B--a moniker given to her by fans to acknowledge her talent and her youth. The more mature Mary J was the queen. Why try to re-write or over-write history?
In light of the recent developments concerning Diddy, I’m glad that Aaliyah didn’t end up working with him on the “One in a Million” album. Take a moment and think of the further physical and emotional damage she may have been subjected to after just having gone through the “R Kelly” part of her young life. Just the thought of what could have happened to her at Diddy’s hands evokes all kinds of negative thoughts in me. This poor girl went through more in her short life than I’ve experienced in all 48 years of my life. She will forever be missed 💕
It's terrible how they treated black artists back then it's why I refuse to go in their stores because you can sense they don't want us in there and I am not giving my money to stores who think of us in that way. Aaliyah's OIAM era is still influencing todays artist and generation and some aren't even aware those trends started with her. I love how positive you made this video without really speaking about RK or as you said "bald head d3m0n" lmaoooooo this highlights her beauty, talent and impact perfectly
Aaliyah was so ahead of her time 😩 effortless, graceful, mysterious, smooth, multitalented ! The path she paved could never be duplicated or erased ! She could sing, dance her butt off, act, model I appreciate you for showing her in a positive light and recognizing her for her talents & the trends she’s set through her years ❤️ safe travels babygirl 🕊️
There were enough interviews where she pronounced her name. She wasn't treated well by the entertainment industry, but despite the obstacles (and grooming), Aaliyah was able to rise above it all with genuine talent, poise, charisma, unique style, and sweetness. A light burned out too soon...
Aaliyah is the DEFINITION OF BLUEPRINT. She’s the it girl in every aspect. Its so sad what happen to her but the fact that she had such a huge impact in such a small time is so iconic. In terms of fashion and pop music I feel like Rihanna kinda continued Aaliyah’s legacy (this may just be my delusion) but if Aaliyah was still here I feel like she would’ve went down the route Rihanna did.
Rihanna just like Drake in terms of biting and mimicking. I feel like Drake was heavily influenced by Aaliyah and Static Major especially in his early albums …but at least he pays homage and keep the legacy alive
@KrissyKayyy it’s a lot of biting going on . I looked at a pic of Rihanna the other and it looked like she had on a Aaliyah costume it’s sick cuz she really not here to enjoy the fruits of her labor….she literally paved the way . I’m glad u just told me that btw put that in my notes lol
Aaliyah came out before many other popular teen acts in the 90s and kickstarted the trend (brandy, Monica, Mya, Britney, NSYNC B2K etc) she started so many other trends as well in sounds and fashion, what an inspiration 🎉
Whew clock the girls for the correct way to say Aaliyah because a lot of them are new fans, young or not real fans because from jump she told people how to pronounce her name. She was such a natural performer and entertainer. She was involved in everything when it came to her career, the styling, producers and music videos which is what made her an icon, she wasn't trying to be like anyone else, which is why so many new artists fail... the labels are always trying to make them the next such and such rather than developing what they already have. Aaliyah was being who she naturally was
Despite how short her life was, her legacy will live on. I've worked on a pitch for an Aaliyah biopic, preferably a movie, and created a trailer for it. Hopefully, I’ll have the family’s approval after the 2014 disaster and make tweaks to it. Her biopic deserves to show the world what a true talent she was and that she was more than what R Kelly did to her.
"Star power"-wise, I do believe that some people are naturally born with it. However, those unlucky enough can still develop it by working on their stage presence and scene comfort.
Heavy on the incomparable and I agree completely with being born with the it factor and star quality, there are so many big-name artists right now who are only big due to luck and or nepotism because so many of them lack that. I think they need to bring back auditioning for labels and artist development. the 90s and early 2000s were the last of true real artist, now it's just gimmicks, social media followers and lack of mystery. Aaliyah was not just beautiful but had the talent and was constantly improving on every album a TRUE artist 💖
I’m so glad this video was made Aaliyah is the blueprint for so many artists today and a true trendsetter through her fashion, music, hairstyles. She will always be irreplaceable ❤
I'm so glad that people are still recognizing her talents. I was this 6 year old who was OBSESSED with her back in 98. I had pictures of her on my wall. I was called all type of bad names associated with gays because of my love for her. As crazy as it sounds, when she died, that was when my life went to complete shit, not because if her death, but my home life. I had just turned 10.
I love when you showcase the vocals of the artists without the instrumental for us to really hearrrr them sing. Aaliyah is one of those artists like you said was just born with the it factor, classy beautiful and just herself. she wasn't pretending to be something she wasn't and it's annoying how anytime a new artist comes along they compare her to Aaliyah. it's not fair to the new artist and there was only ONE Aaliyah Edit: I can't believe how blatantly r a c!s+ so many brands were back then with refusing to send black artists clothing, that's a different level of h a t 3
I agree artist should be allowed to just be themselves and not compared to others. Aaliyah was in a lane of her own ✨ the designers back then were disgusting and some still are but it’s low key because they don’t want to be cancelled but so many black artists were denied clothing from luxury brands back in the day, it’s terrible.
Seriously! like how hateful can you be to not want someone wearing your brand ?! I remember Tina speaking about that with Destiny’s Child and how hard it was to get clothes for the girls smh
I was introduced to Aaliyah through my mom Ive always been a tomboy and wore big clothes and she said it reminded her of Aaliyah. At the time I was a sophomore in highschool and she told me that I would really love her music and style and ever since she has been my inspo. My dreams have always been to become a well known artist but unfortunately the industry is very dark. I’m just glad that I have found someone I can relate to style and personality wise she was very chill, laid back, and always herself
I wasn't around at that time but I'm glad I discovered her music and felt her impact in pop music nowadays. She pioneered the Y2K sound that people are bringing back recently! And her videos are quintessential Y2K MV.
She is one of my favorite female artist of all time I really loved her fashion , choreography and just her personality in general she was so real and humble and way ahead of her time may she rest in peace we miss her so much ❤️❤️🥺
The editing for this video is top tier girl! one of my favorite Aaliyah song is Come Over. Tank and her singing is something I constantly replay when listening to that song lol and she requested Tank to do those vocals too. She was just gorgeous and so captivating 💕 and yessss Extra Smooth will always be an underrated bop on her self titled album! her and Static blended perfectly together

Aaliyah was the best thing that ever happened to RnB, as far as I'm concerned.
Her influence is found today in so much in her short career I wish we could’ve saw her become!!!
20/21 year olds look so much like grown adults back then. Her and her peers had so much grace and confidence.

Can we start referring to Aaliyah as Queen Of Urban Pop; she hasn’t been touched, challenged or dismissed since she came out. Even in death.
I agree, for years I have been thinking and saying Aaliyah is not the Princess of R&B but the QUEEN/EMPRESS OF R&B (might even say Goddess)
💯💯💯
Those kind of labels are tacky.

I was 6 or 7 when she died. I seen her IMPACT in the south side of Chicago teens and kids vibing and creating dances to her music inthe late 90s-000s WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE 😂😢🎉
Thank you so much for shutting out Aaliyah’s Jamaican background a lot of people don’t know that

can you pls do a breakdown on Meagan Good
Oh lord not diddy
Thank God because she could have been the 90s Cassie and knowing Diddy, he's R Kelly 2.0.
@@kamsismithR. Kelly used to harm her from what I read. I think the song “I Refuse” was about some of the things she endured when she was with R. Kelly. It was nowhere near as bad as what Diddy did to Cassie tho 😢
The answer is Ciara at 1:35
NOT EVEN lol ciara can wish 🤣
She looks Jamaican...
