When a performance a song that has breathtaking emotion words harmony and has its own stage performance as long as people are alive this can be performed 50 years from now Broadway still there
Saw this at Lincoln Center and loooooooooved it. I'm a big Rodgers and Hammerstein fan, but I never thought much of The King and I. That production changed my mind - and I realized some of their most gorgeous songs are in that musical, including this one.
A beautiful production. And very reminiscent of the Lincoln Center production. And this is perhaps one of the most beautiful songs ever written for Broadway. But no one will ever beat Jose Llana, himself, singing this song some 20 years ago. His is still the most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard.
Great Job, Manna! I HAVE DREAMED I [LUN THA] I have dreamed That your arms are lovely I have dreamed What a joy you'll be I have dreamed Every word you whisper When you’re close, Close to me How you look In the glow of evening I have dreamed And enjoyed the view. CHORUS In these dreams I've loved you so That by now I think I know What it's like to be loved by you (Loved by you) [BOTH] I will love being loved by you. TUPTIM] Alone and awake I've looked at the stars The same that smile on you And time and again I've thought all the things That you were thinking too. (Repeat I and {Chorus with Lun Tha)}
Pretty nice! But it's kinda of fast, lesse heart, I didn feel the connection. If this is just one of many rehearsals it's fine but if to be or used already It misses a very crucial elements which I mentioned the first three. It wouod also be better if the huy has a masculinity in his voice, it sounded plain or kinda flat, you know what I mean? He doesn't know much how to move or render the message by his body language. It's a theater play so your movement needs to be bold and very noticeably good.
Are the compliments in the comments family members? The singing is hardly mediocre, and they're expecting me to pay a hundred dollars a ticket? Jokes. Listen to the operatic voices of the film. The song wasnt written for nasally, flat, warbling voices.
Yes, I know I'm responding to an older comment but I must agree with you. Standards of singing on Broadway, especially for these classic shows have fallen off shockingly. By contrast, listen to Martin Vidnovic on the 1977 revival cast album. Aside from an odd vowel or two, that is probably the best rendition of this number I have heard, a strong manly voice that didn't need to be miked. If you don't have full legit training, don't attempt Rodgers and Hammerstein, simple as that.
@@kennethwayne6857 Yes! Though I can't imagine them being on Broadway in general even outside of Rodger and Hammerstein, really. My ears are untrained and even I can hear the pitchy shallowness! It's like a bad community theater, or a high school production.
@@clubsnatcher Well, such is the current state of things that we're asked to pay Broadway prices for the likes of this. Better to stay at home and listen to records of the glorious past.

I saw the show when it was in Costa Mesa. Two beautiful singers

USCTrojan65 Jose was funny at times as the King
He is very good and tends to pop his high notes. In contrast her high notes are effortless.

augh, flat, rather than minor!
They barely skim along the surface of the emotions that this song is capable of expressing. ..a shockingly empty performance, rehearsal or not...

The singing is horrendous. Especially the guy. And these are professionals? How far we've fallen
chk3092 agreed, is this high school?
I'm sorry, but where are your singing videos?
