It's a balancing act. If they don't seize the yacht when they have a chance, they might not get another opportunity. At the same time, you still need ample evidence that the yacht was obtained with ill-gotten gains to prove your case. In the interim, you must maintain the yacht. It's cheaper to maintain the yacht than to let it fall into disrepair and then fix it.

The QE2 was built as an ocean liner, end of, she maybe being use as a 'cruise ship now, due to people preferring to fly across the Atlantic and is diversifying to avoid the scrap yard, which is a good thing. The two types of ships are very different, I would chose to be on the QE2 in a storm than a "cruise ship" which does its best to avoid heavy seas. Maybe do your homework before calling people names.

Hello Mr. Sysman. I really enjoy your vids. For the pedantic comment on liner versus cruise ships I will note the following: When it comes to shipping there are two types of trades, liners or non liner sometimes called tramps. This applies to all types of ships, passenger, cargo, and even container ships. A liner has a scheduled service and runs back and forward between scheduled ports picking up cargo or passengers at the port of embarkation and dropping them off at a scheduled destination at a specified time and date. The very large container ships still advertise scheduled liner port calls so that shippers can rely on one of the ships being in port on specified regular dates to pick up or drop off the goods. Mid size and smaller container ships are more opportunistic and flexible in the choice of port calls and are more properly tramping. In the case of passenger ships there are very few liner trade routes left in this world although the transatlantic trade still supports one or two ships for those fellows who do not wish to fly. However, the vast majority are engaged in cruising.
(BTW a cruise can be transatlantic if the port calls are designed for the pleasure of the passenger rather than the scheduled transportation and passengers enjoy the port calls as much as the voyage per say) also, the difference between a liner has nothing to do with the structure or strength of the ship. Both are required to meet the stringent requirements of the Classification Society enforcing international rules for the construction and operation of passenger ships engaged on international voyages. As it happens, Cunard has lots of experience on the transatlantic trade and voluntarily designed QM2 to exceed the standards in order to meet a schedule without requiring diversion for weather, a factor that allows them to advertise ‘liner’ status. I have sailed through several North Atlantic storms attempting to keep a schedule and that can be brutal indeed. But that construction in itself doesn’t make it a liner. It is only the service of the ship that makes it a liner. It’s a subtle distinction that is now more of a marketing ploy than actual use. This tradition has carried over into air travel where now scheduled travel on a passenger airplane is on an airline.
One other point is that a cruise ship normally returns the passenger to the original port of embarkation although this is not always the case for instance on a ship re-positioning cruise. So in the end, cruise ships can be liners and liners can be cruise ships and you are exactly correct in your terminology,

However, when it arrived in New York, it had just done a transatlantic crossing, which is it's regular schedule, with cruises added in. Wonderful ship.

On Amadea and Fiji: I recall finding the court rulings based on your videos, and they were about honouring the cooperation treaty (I forget the name) and not at all about judging who the owner was and if it was under sanctions. A US court ruled ship should be seized, and used that treaty to ask Fiji to let USA seize it.
Since a US court has already ruled the ship should be seized, then the rightful owner can appeal that court ruling to challenge the evidence that was presented to show the beneficial owner was not correct in the court case.

Excellent videos. I have three comments. In the piece on MY Amadea you say the boat was shown going "up river." The boat is in the Port of San Diego which, the best of my knowledge. does not include any navigable rivers. We are talking California which I believe has one navigable river, the Sacramento. Your piece on the righting of a sailing yacht asked why a similar method was not used to right Petrol. My simplistic answer is that Petrol is a lot bigger and heavier than the sailing yacht. The method used on the sail boat I suspect would not have worked on Petrol. My last comment is on describing Queen Mary II as a cruise ship rather than an ocean liner. I would point out that how a vessel is used does not really change what it was built as. After the surrender on Japan at the end of WW II many warships including battle ships and air craft carriers were used to transport troops back to their home country. That action did not transform those war ships into troop carriers. Troop carriers were a real type of ship during WW II. I would also point out that RMS Queen Mary and, I believe, RMS Queen Elizabeth were used as troop transport ships in WW II. I believe that other ocean liners were also used to transport personnel. That action did not make them troop carrier ships.

As to the Russian yacht under detention in the US, this is similar to a case of a dog catching a car. The US should never have seized private property. It is idiotic that the vessel costs over $1 million a month. I would bet that there is a concocted story to justify a joy ride around the harbor. A Freedom of Information request would likely show people on board the cruise that were not necessary.

As a U.S. citizen, you have the right for a speedy trail. If the owner wants his ship back he can take the US government to court if you have a good case to argue. If you are a foreigner or a citizen hire an Attorney.

A speedy trail? Maybe trial is the word you are looking for.
Understand your point, but I had to, sorry
This boat is a US Citizen? Really.... I would believe that it is inanimate property.

Your videos are all fantastic, informative and very entertaining. Too bad some people get set off on a really small (to me) error if you will. Glad you handled the wording of that big boat as professionally as you did! Ocean liner, Cruiseship, as the song goes, You say, Tomato, i say Toma to! Thanks!

Hi, Always Lovely to see what *'Boats'* are _Floating about,_ or not, on the Waters.
    Would One have issue as to water vessel's 'proper' type when it's Theirs? I wouldn't, just so long it Floats. : }

One of the reasons we have the problems in the world today is that there are over sensitive Muppets that have nothing better to do than try and stir things up. Keyboard warriors who would never say anything to your face. They just troll the internet looking for stuff to contradict... So Ocean Liner / Cruise ship is neither here nor there. In days gone by for sure they crossed Oceans, Southampton / New York etc and that is pretty much all they did. Today they have to fulfill both roles by providing cruises. So both descriptions apply Keep up the great content.

I noticed there's been no mention of Multiverse in the BVI recently as a yatspot. Its been there for months now and while myself and a crew spotted it when we were there, we didn't anchor close enough for images. Surely one of your fans around has footage? Thoughts?

An ocean liner can be a cruise ship but not the other way around.

I could see the sale being on hold over saftey concerns of retaliation on the ship by the former owner. As that risk could drastically reduce the price.

Back in jan (I think) of 1960, my mom, sister, and I sailed from NYC to Cork Ireland on the RMS Parthia II, a Cunard ship. It was an OCEAN LINER, lol...

The people bent out of shape over the terms ocean liner and cruise ship are the same ones that have no problem with a ship being referred to as a boat.
I love the D&D reference in that regard, well done!
