      The cold doesn’t bother me if it is sunny out! Cold rain tends to make me grumpy 🤣

    You are using a Leftie' baitcaster!! So awesome!! I am a Righty But always want a leftie baitcaster. I think they f\designed the reel incorrectly! I hate switching hands from my spinning reels to casting reels :)
    I love your vulnerability about how you are learning :) super cool! I actually learn a lot from you :)

      Thank you! I learned on a left-handed reel so it just feels correct to me at this point. I have used the right-handed ones on a couple of guide trips but vastly prefer the left-handed ones.

      Thanks! My last 3 outings in Dec & Jan where I got to watch my buddies fish changed everything. I crossed off half my tournaments and will have time to just fun fish and practice. What a concept! I’m so excited for spring!

      Thanks! I’m eyeing skipping a day of work in a couple of weeks to get another day on the water, but it is tough in the winter when I’m on my 7-days-a-week work schedule! I get my weekends back mid-March, though! 🎣

    I can tell you why you are having trouble with the quick jerk up rod pops. You are using your elbows, which has a big radius of movement. Try using your wrist to pop up instead.

      @keenanklein6769 8 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed, and learn to "palm" the reel. You're a little far down on the handle. This will give you better control overall. Beautiful smallie though in very tough conditions. In the end, as long as you're putting fish in the boat that's all that matters! Love the channel, subbed.

      I tend to do that more when fishing in bass boats, but I always find myself holding farther back when in the kayak. I'll play around with it, thanks!

    I was fishing a blade bait today and caught nothing. Watching this, I realize I was fishing it the same way you say you used to. I'm going to try it this new way the next time I go out. Thanks!

      I hope it helps! It was really funny when I waited forever kind of sarcastically thinking it was probably already down there and I was just sitting there like a dummy, and then it so clearly “clunked” on the bottom and I was all dang, yep, I’ve been nowhere near the bottom all these years! 🤣

    I just learned the blade a couple years ago, so fun to learn a new technique and catch fish on it. My most effective technique is flip flopping it on the bottom using spinning tackle. Crazy how hard they thump it in cold water!

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  8 месяцев назад

      Like literally leaving it on the bottom and just like twitching it over?

      @@GirlGoneFishing yea! I thought it sounded crazy so I tried it and got a few. The amount of focus to do such a small movement is extremely mentally taxing lol

    Yeap fishing down here last 2 yrs has been excellent for me. I've caught more 4, 5, & 6 pounders than I can count now, I don't even way them anymore unless I think it's above a 6. My 11.4 was 26.25" long & 17.5" in girth. She was released in good condition & had a amazing replica done. There's also good striper & crappie fishing down here too! I've found multiple smaller lakes to perfect for kayak fishing that are filled huge bass & big 16" crappie with extremely low fishing pressure. I do miss rest of my family & friends in Cincinnati area & it was extremely convenient having strictly sail so close for all my Hobie stuff. There's a few good dealers down here but not as close & not as good as guys at strictly for customer service. Winter fishing is very comfortable usually gets up in mid 50's low 60's during day. It's weird I saw waaaay more kayak anglers around Cincy area than I do down here? I usually am only one in kayak anywhere I go? Good luck in your tournaments this season!!!

    Awesome video and awesome catches! I want to try blade baits in cold water (always cold when I start fishing) and your tips give me some great advice and instruction.
    Love to know what that cold weather gear you're wearing is -- I'm a stickler for safety! I have cold water gear myself but always interested in learning more options. I'm approaching 71 so don't know how many more Hobie fishing years I've got left but plan to go as long as possible! Keep fishing and sharing!
    Thanks!

      Thank you! I haven’t invested in a dry suit yet since I teach skiing in the winter and usually don’t have a chance to ever fish in the cold, although this year I’ve managed to get in 3 days on the water in the “off season” so far. I will be looking into one for the future!

    • @RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
      @RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@GirlGoneFishing So that's your skiing gear! Interesting. I don't fish a lot in cold water, but I have high-performance under garment that will keep me warm when wet, and I have the NRS fishing bibs, which I wear during rain throughout the season (they breathe).
      The cold weather gear is essential if the water temp PLUS the air them is less than 120 total -- at those temps there's a big risk of hypothermia.
      Stay safe out there!

      I don’t have the proper cold-water safety gear yet since I rarely have days off in the winter (work 2 jobs for zero days off from december-march). But I’m going to start looking for a used dry suit to be better prepared in the future!
