I was there on Friday. It was an endless thoroughfare banked with quality layouts both sides; a relentless feast for the eyes. The Yard was my favourite with those remote control lorries. Very impressed by the whole show and well worth the small entry fee.
Me too, the selection of layouts really was outstanding and provided just plenty of entertainment without it feeling crammed. I think Rapido are onto a winner here! Thanks for watching 😃
Funnily enough at one point when I popped over to film the layout later in the day there was no-one there. Hopefully I didn't scare him away but I'll admit I didn't check the floor behind the layout 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Ahh no worries! I never like to insert myself into other peoples conversations anyway and most of the times I stopped by you were busy talking to people about the layout so didn't want to interrupt 😅
That was a fantastic show. All the layouts were of the finest quality and the exhibitors all very happy to talk with the visitors. Well done to Rapido for organising this great event, best of luck to the team in their future efforts.
I heartily agree with everything you've said there! Although, given how popular the custom wagon design station seemed to be at this show I do wonder how on earth they'll cope with demand at the NEC in November... nice problem to have though! Thanks for watching 😃
It's a huge amount of work putting on a show of any kind but hats off to Rapido. They've really knocked it out of the park with this one and I think they'd be silly not to organise future events. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you for including a small slice of the R&J Colliery, my first ever exhibition in the UK being that I'm from the Netherlands, I've enjoyed every minute and this video gives me an opportunity to see the other layouts on display that I've only glanced at when I had the chance to do a quick walk around the show. Thanks!
My pleasure, it's a superb layout and was one of my favourites at the show! I actually spent quite a bit of time filming it so I'll have a solo video on R&J Colliery coming out fairly soon all being well. Glad you enjoyed the rest of the video too and thanks for watching 😃
I was working on the Tony’s Trains stand on the Friday, I really appreciate that this video exists as I didn’t get much chance to look around, as by the time we finished trading so had everyone else 😊
Cool show wasnt it? I loved it, some fantastic layouts. Nice little clips of Harefield, cheers. I did clock you at the layout and was going to say hello but was just a bit snowed under keeping it running, first time out so was a bit stressful! Hopefully when its out next year it will be finished and catch you there :-)
It was! Glad you liked the clips of Harefield. No worries at all, having been through the exact same situation with Teaton the previous weekend I can fully appreciate what it's like keeping a new layout running for the first time while engaging with the public too. I never like to assume anyone knows who I am either so I try to fly under the radar for the most part too 😅 Best of luck with any future shows and thanks for watching 👍
I went there on Friday, yes the exhibition was in the 'small, but perfectly formed' category - and it had an agreeable £5 entry fee. My only gripes were actually finding the place (no signage of any kind from Maidestone West railway station) and that none of the traders were were selling secondhand track at a discount. The layout you show at the start of your film is indeed delightful, but the (large) size of the boats (even in 1:76) shocked me. I found Hobbs Hill to be the most inspirational layout - I liked the working level crossing gates, semaphore signals and that they added real telegraph etc wires. These can all be seen in your footage. My photos show that one of the roads alongside the station is called 'Icky Picky Lane'. What a fantastic name for a road! There were also other things that I photographed as ideas for me to copy. I liked the many people on the bridge looking down on the station on the Titfield diorama sized layout. I primarily went to this exhibition to see Underground Eric's partially built layout. You include a little footage of this too, albeit only the sections which look finished. I cannot mention everything that I saw there, despite being a small exhibition hall there were still many layouts - of various sizes - but one other smaller layout that had something 'different' was an industrial scene where everything looked really grimy, as if had been spray painted with a dirty black wash. Obviously it depicts real life, but far away from the more usual countryside or urban / town centre (etc) settings.
I believe Rapido weren't allowed to put up signs - I'm not sure why that was but despite that it does seem like a lot of people were still able to find the show. I think the industrial scene you refer to is RJ Colliery - that was one of my favourite layouts there too as I very much do like the industrial side of things. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Thats right, Rapido were not allowed to put up signs, but there could have been local government signs to the Market Hall - this is where the exhibition was staged and therefore what I was looking for when I left the railway station. The road / footpath layout in the area was also very confusing. When I went home I followed someone else and found a much shorter route (via footpaths) then the route I had taken on my way to the market hall (which was via roads).
Wow, these are very nice. Especially fond of the dock scene and the colliery, great levels of detail. Even the staggered crossing guards on the Hobbs Hill layout was very impressive. I never would have thought such a thing would be possible. Many thanks.
Yeah every layout at the show was superb in it's own way. It's not just crossing gates that move... keep an eye on the semaphore signals too! Thanks for watching 👍
Another show I’m gutted that I had to miss - this time due to work commitments. But as ever I am grateful to you my friend for capturing the layouts in your professional style. Cheers!
What a lovely show watching from America. Those layouts are inspiring and well done. Rapido did wonderful job for first time hope they do another one next year. Thank you for sharing this show with us. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
Hi, thats a really great video of the layouts at the show. I went on the Friday and I actually think your video highlights the layouts better than seeing them on the day. It was a great show, especially considering it was the first one Rapido had organised. A great show, all the best Dave.
Thank you, that's really kind of you to say. I'll definitely take that as a massive compliment as I do try to show each layout at it's best if I can. I agree, it was a fantastic show for Rapido's first effort. Hard to say anything bad about it. Thanks for watching 😃
Time, definitely. Money - less so. Many of the layouts shown predominantly used scratch built techniques which of course is a much cheaper way of building a layout. Thanks for watching 👍
Made the last hour and half yesterday, so glad i made the effort to go, fantastic selection and quality layouts. £5 to.. Putting tgis one in the diary for next year..
Yeah every layout offered something different an exceptional in my opinion. Let's hope Rapido decide to make this an annual event. Thanks for watching 😃
Quality over quantity sums it up, and not just in terms of the layouts - no raffles, no bring & buy, next-to-no second hand. Rapido's stands were excellent and I loved the custom wagon printing, even though I ran out of money before I could take them up on it! My only minor niggle is the timing, which is just a week away from the Folkestone show down the road.
If layouts are what you want from an exhibition then it's definitely a great show for that. Don't forget that for some though, the layouts are of less interest and it's more about the traders and finding secondhand bargains. There's lots of different ways to enjoy the hobby after all. I'd agree with the timing though. We had the Spa Valley Railway exhibition in Tunbridge Wells the week before this too, so three shows all very close from both a timing and location perspective. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video. It was a nice small show with lots to see. Loved these layouts especially the 009 and O gauge as that’s the scales I doing at the moment. Hopefully they will do it again. Nice to meet you again.
I believe the official line from Rapido on whether the the exhibition will return was "ask us again after the show". That said, it's been so well received and so well attended for an inaugural show that they'd be silly not to in my opinion. Thanks for watching 😃
To be honest I don't go to all that many exhibitions either. The fact that I've been to two on consecutive weekends is very much an outlier. Generally I find that planning to attend one or two specific events is much easier than trying to go to shows as much as possible and makes it more special too. Thanks for watching 😃
One of best Trains show In long time. Hope we get show next year. All staff was so friendly a part of there family as there let me talk to them the hole day .Keep on make steam train before 1930's. And odd one like S160 and fireless industry tank engine. As S160 and O1 in blue and fireless industry tank all look amazing Rapido.
I think the official line from Rapido about doing it next year was "Ask us after the show!" 😅 Obviously these things aren't easy to put together but given how much of a success it seems to have been I think everyone, Rapido included, will want to see it return in the future. Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy To see the gates operated remotely was a joy. Amazed that the 00 Airfix kits remain available, through Dapol. Remind me of dad's '70s layout, wherein mineral wagons hauled real (crushed) coal. Happy daze!🤪
Hi another great video, I hope to see you at the GETS this year. If possible my partners son who loves watching you're videos, he is autistic and sensory needs would you give him a shout out on one of your next videos on you're tt:120 layout. Thanks Graham Davis
Really glad you enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be at GETS this year I'm afraid. I haven't been invited so I need to give priority to the shows that I have been invited to. I don't tend to do shoutouts in videos either as then everyone starts wanting one. But you can tell Thomas from me thanks for watching and keep on modelling 😃
BEAUTIFUL CHAOS ???? Pretty little layouts, but as seems normal today no real comprehension of real life operation. Signalling, couplings, brake systems, corridor connection types, & SR coaching SETS all with large SET numbers painted on the end vehicles, all seem to be totally misunderstood. And even a Southern "Z" Class 0-8-0T (intended as a heavy Yard shunting type) running an incorrectly marshalled mixed freight !!!! There were very complex rules concerning freight trains in the steam era, and even today the loads being carried can require specified positioning within a freight train !!! There's nothing like descending Hemerdon at 03.00hrs to discover one of the wagons is on fire, & knowing you have two 40ton vans loaded with commercial explosives in the train !!!!
I'm sure when you display your layout at an exhibition all the formations will be perfect and the everything will run to a correct schedule. Having exhibited layouts myself though I know how much pressure there is on the operators to keep things moving at all time to satisfy the audience as well as working around problems that crop up throughout the show. Most people are just grateful to see something moving. Thanks for watching 👍

I really loved the little 3 wheeled van trundling by in the background on one of them.. so “only fools” style. 😁👍
Yeah I noticed that too! I think it uses the magnorail system (due to the small size of the vehicles). Thanks for watching 😃
Yes you are correct, it's a nod to Only Fools and Horses, powered by the Magnorail system on my "R&J Colliery" layout.
