    Great post, we're new to shrimp (thanks to my son wanting them for his birthday- we're now very interested) the tank we have currently has RCS and blue dreams, is it likely we could end up with interesting mixes or wild colours? Not breeding to sell but interested to know more

    one way of getting some of the hair algae is get a shrimp lolly stick (the round ones) and spin in round slowly in the hair algae, it will help get rid of some that way, also you could get some Horned Nerite Snails, they will eat the algae off ornaments and glass given time, their eggs only hatch in salty water, ive some in my tank and they are hard at work

      Like amano their larvas need salt water.
      Unlike amano adults can be kept (and it looked like they were doing really well in it) in a little bit salty water.
      They also like to jump.

    Mark! Thanks for everything. Please help me on a few questions if you don't mind. 1) do you use a chiller? 2) what substrate do you use? 2.1) is it inert? 2.2) what do you do with the substrate once it disintegrates? 2.3) is it true the darker the substrate, the darker the shrimp? 3) your suswassertang looks good and round, is it grown around something or? 4) do you wash/change the sponge on your sponge filters? 4.1) if yes, how often? 5) in this video, cross breeding, I thought it's not recommended as it would cause the offspring to lose its original color? Thank you! Hear from you soon

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 лет назад +2

      Hello Chia
      1. No I dont use a chiller,my room is heated to 24c constantly
      2. Akadama Bonsai soil
      2.1 No Its an Active substrate that lowers the Ph down to roughly 6.
      2.2 It normaly lasts arouns 2.5 -3 years at which point I must restart the tank and replace the soil.
      2.3 Yes I think this might be true, shrimp on a darker soil will have a darker Body.
      3. It is grown on wood ruclips.net/video/aJueVH8Fhqc/видео.html
      4. Yes I clean the sponges every other water change.
      5. In the crossbreeding videos the aim is to create new types of shrimp with different colors and patters :)

    • @chialiulian2881
      @chialiulian2881 6 лет назад +1

      Gee thank you so much! As for cleaning the sponge, its with aged water am i right? Because i was told if doing so with new water would kill the beneficial bacteria community residing in the sponge. Thank you once again ;)

      I am actually looking into getting a few fan shrimp right now, whats important is that you feed them a powdered food ,it can be the same food as the other shrimp but you just need to powder it first and then add it to where there is flow in the tank:)

    from a pure observation point of view, the moving (water current induced) branches of those plants are the ones that look unhealthy in both your aquariums. I`d guess the plant doesn't fare well if its in a more circulated side of the tank.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 лет назад

      Its weird I literally just cut back the bad growth in one tank where it was growing bad and now its growing thick and course..I actually wonder if its a heat issue and acclimation issue ..I bought the stuff and I think it came from a pond outside and it was super thick , when I added some to my tanks it got thin and feathery and now its going back to be course and dark green.

    • @Waverwreck
      @Waverwreck 6 лет назад

      The problem with the farmers for these plants is that they dont have fish/shrimp in the growout ponds so they can ignore the pH of the water, can infuse more CO2 + nutrients than would be safe with any sort of fauna in the water. This may cause the acclimation issue. Glad they are recovering though, they look great in your aquariums.

    • @dominic.h.3363
      @dominic.h.3363 6 лет назад +1

      If your tank is large enough and you feed them properly, probably not. One day I had a berried female Amano, the next day she wasn't berried anymore and there were no larvae either. My berried cherry shrimp itself disappeared under similarly suspicious circumstances and even though I haven't actually seen any Amano shrimp eating anything else than the food I put in, shrimp do not just disintegrate from one day to the next.
      I suggest dense vegetation and a 40l tank at the very least if you want to see actual offspring. Smaller volumes and bare tanks do not seem to work out for breeding multiple species side by side.

    your algae looks like a bacteria infestation. It is cyanobacteria and can be cured with erythromycin in a fish tank, not sure about shrimp. Medicine containing tetracycline also works. After the cyanobacteria is gone, do a 50% water change. again, not sure about this with shrimp but it will kill the slime algae

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
