That is a ceremonial race .real competative race with well trained rower can be seen in Nehru tropy race and in many other baoat race leagues . It cant even be called a race, rowed by village heads and land lords etc

As in it's true many people might not know this festival exists just like I am sure you don't know about many festivals around the world that exist in different cultures throughout the world.
