Like you, I knew Sweelinck in dribs and drabs from my choral life. This sounds right up my street. To the Internet!

I heard this group sing Sweelinck at the Boston Early Music Festival several years back, and it was simply gorgeous!

This is an amazing set. Dave. I got this after your first review of the composer. Super gorgeous music.

No question about it. This is great music. I have two discs of Sweelinck's sacred music in my collection, one featuring the Netherlands Chamber Choir, the other with the choir of Clare College, Cambridge. These discs introduced me to this repertoire, but I am eager now to hear the complete Geneva Psalm Settings. Thanks for this informative review! While I;m at it, let me suggest a review of Carus's complete Schütz edition. Music of commensurate beatuy and sublimity, superbly performed and recorded. Music of this period has always enthralled me.

I've now listened to this for the last week straight and it's brilliant, thank you for the recommendation once again! Where can I find this other review you mention in this video?

Really underrated composer, if you want a taste of his keyboard work just listen to his Fantasia Crommatica on RUclips. He is definitely a worthy predecessor of Buxtehude and Bach on the organ. Overall I find this time period to be incredibly interesting with many hidden gems ( I just started getting into Salomone Rossi too, really good stuff that gets very little attention.)

A cd with texts and notes from the previous releases is included
    (information backside box).

Thanks. I should have mentioned that, but I have the earlier box and I never get past the music itself.

Thank you. You introduce me to so many interesting composers and works. Here's hoping you will start a 'best recorded' series of videos to steer us in the right directions, because there is nothing worse than a dull, uninspired recording. I've been totally put off Haydn's symphonies because the recordings I listened to just droned on n on... your own rabid enthusiasm towards them have piqued my curiosity again though... so again, thank you.

Interesting recommendation! I will definitely try this composer out. Is his keyboard music as good as his vocal works?

A master very rarely a household name. Not all great Dutch artists were painters.
