Hi, I just watched all of your videos. Nice to see how you tackle all the challenges from a non programmer position. In case you are not happy with your colors. I would suggest using a color pallet.
Also, don't forget to configure your godot project for pixel art.
In Project Settings/Display/Window you need to configure the viewport size (a little tip: Turn on Advanced settings and change the Window Width and Height Override to something bigger, so that the window that opens is not super tiny).
You also need to decide what Stretch Mode you want. canvas_items, if you want in between pixels or viewport if you want true pixel art.
Also the most important thing is under Project Settings/Rendering/Textures/Canvas Textures/Default Texture Filter. You need to set it to Nearest , if you don't want to get blurry textures.

Thanks so much! I think colour palettes are important, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that yet, I'll have an explore in the next day or two. I may end up building my own. I will at some point have a think about colour-blind accessibility for it, but that may be something I consider later.
Thanks for all of the tips on Godot. The only one I knew about was the texture rendering, I got lucky with a tutorial on that one.
Thanks for coming on the journey - excited to have you along to see what I can build.

Hey cool progess. I have some feedback on your pixel art. These are just really little things I noticed:
    1) Black is a hard colour to use for the shadow on the sides of your sink and shadows aren't usually pure black. The shadow under the sink is a lighter colour but usually kitchens are lit from above so it doesn't make sense for the shadow to be so dark on the side of the sink. I would consider not using pure black for outlines or shadows on your handles and sink and think about where your light is coming from.
    2) Your appliances (except the fridge) match your cabinets exactly in tone and colour this is unusual to find in a real kitchen and might make the image less readable.
    3) It is unusual for a counter top to not extend over a dishwasher
    4) Your cupboard handle on the top cupboard does not match the lower cupboard handle in your dishwasher image. This makes it look like the lighting in the room is odd.
    5) I think your character's eyes are a little too high in his head by maybe one or two pixels and his hands are too high because at the moment his arms are too short. I appreciate the image is stylised but something looks off with the proportions. You could see what he looks like with shorter legs or longer arms.
    6) Vans checkerboard slip ons are going to be a pain to animate I think but if you want to improve use the photos on vans website for a reference. The models are all wearing jeans.
    7) For adding depth to your washing machine you may want to try dithering and consider making your reflections curved rather than straight lines to follow the shape of the glass door

After listened to you struggle around the end about you're not recording the first time, I realized something. The "mental barrier" problem which is the one I'm using to describe the struggle I have regarding something which preventing me from achieving my goals similar to walking into invisible walls. So it's actually not just "me" problem, but a universal problem which anyone can experience. After I watched you, I kinda figured out the truth behind "mental barrier". It's when we're working on something new or have bad memories about, which will cause "mental barrier" to appear. Our brain would trying to adjusting for the new types of activities or dealing with the old problems so we could perform them better. Some things might take you a lot of time in order for you to start working, like when you're gathering up confidence to ride the bicycle for the first time. I used to have the mental barrier problem which prolonged for 3 months. It's when I didn't have proper frameworks to deal with the complex problem I had back then. The truth is, I need more than just a few knowledges to deal with that problem and during which I spent the entire 3 months clenching my processing power to try and figure out how to solve the problem. After so many experiences with mental barriers and the increment in my skills, I started to take note and study from others. A lot of people said something about "make it smaller" or "cut it into bitesize". After a while I realized that there is such a thing. I think human sometimes are kinda slow at learning things, but with enough dedication and experiencing repeated patterns, people would be able to learn new things. I'm actually a genius which could learn patterns fast, but back then I was super burnout from university to the point when I quitted I slept 12 - 15 hours each days for 2 years.

Thank you so much for sharing. It’s really hard to understand when you’ve made mistakes and why you can’t solve or do something when you’re so close to the problem. I’m glad you’ve been able to break through that mental barrier. Do you still suffer with this or have you found that you use the same approach on many problems or areas?
Slowing down and going back to the bigger picture I find helps me. It’s all about perspective, in my experience anyway. It’s quite often we get so into our work that we can’t see the wood for the trees. Taking breaks and not trying to brute force through to solutions is so important.
I hope you’re in a way better place now and your sleep is at a more stable level.

@@TheInfiniteInkwell It seems we reached similar conclusion that take a step back to see bigger picture is a good approach when we experience mental barrier.
Well the sleeping problem was natural body mechanism to help me fix all those crunch time I had in the past. It's over around 3 years ago before I started my unreal journey.
Though I had several problems during these 3 years, I made considerable progress to improve my skills.
Since early this year, all personal problems seems to faded away. Only some new problems but they're negligible since they're temporary and will goes away after everything finished on those parts.
I think we've got the starting point around similar time if we're considering that now I'm ready to tackle with my first commercial game and you're starting out on gamedev journey.
I think you probably got something to show before I could get something to show since my project is rather big and I'm focusing on the planning part to make sure that I won't call another quit since I'm already on the gamedev journey for 10 years.
But overall it's progressing smoothly for me.

I think it looks like its coming along great. The only thing I thought I might want to share with you concerns the spider. If there's a part for the spider to play, fair enough, but if it's truly just part of the background I think most players are going to assume that it's not and might become frustrated trying to figure out what to "do" with it and thinking they're missing something (a sort of "Chekov's gun" kind of problem). Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Thanks so much and thanks for sharing your two cents. I take your point, this was more something to play with and have fun with, it may not go anywhere. It might be that if I include a couple of living elements hidden in backgrounds it might feel less like something players need to interact with. Thanks for your input though, I really appreciate it.

About the UI, you might want to consider different screen/window sizes people might use. Widescreen displays are the norm nowadays, but there are still folks who prefer to do their retro gaming on 4:3 CRT monitors.

If you want to start your new project with Godot 4.3, just use the beta version. You really don't have to wait for the stable release if you don't have a Godot project yet.

Yeah I think I’m going to download the beta this week, but just make sure I have proper version control set up to allow me to have backups if there are any changes that break stuff.
