Great video Matt. Impressive fit of the joint at the end. Lots of work for me to do to get mine that good. The audio levels were fine for me, but like you said it's a bit echoey at times. It was really noticeable at the start of the previous video that there's been a big change in the acoustics of the workshop.

For the next 4 days over 4 weeks (night classes) we are having to build a frame for our practical lvl 1 Carpentry & Joinery exam with 6 different joints, this being one of them. We have already done the joints individually but mine come out really messy. I really hate the router plane ( almost nothing in our class is sharp). Going to sharpen my own chisels tomorrow using a new honing gauge I bought with 25, 30 and 35 degree angles (only using 25 first then 30 for the honing angle. Not using 35). As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
Great work, I see what you mean about the lighting you mentioned in a previous video. The audio levels are really good maybe a little loud when using the mallet Maybe some sound proofing foam may be of use

I find it easier getting a wide chisel and a square bit of wood and I clamp both bits of wood in the vice with the square bit of wood following the marking out of the dovetail and then just slowly keep taking bits of wood using the spare piece of wood as a guide until both bits of wood are flush with eachother, always ends up with a lovely finish and no fluffy edges from using a saw either because you're only using a chisel

A beautiful joint Matt. You didn’t trim down the sides of the tail but left the saw cuts as they were. Is that how it’s usually done? Could there be a small unevenness there?
Loving these videos, I don't know if anyone asked this of you yet, but why did you not first clean up the dovetail with a chisel before tracing it onto the other piece? Wouldn't doing so give you a tighter fit when everything is all cut? Thanks!

Great vid Matt !! Bit old and creeky myself..., so my only suggestion might be that, for newer wood workers or ol geezers like myself, is cut back on the espresso a little you talk a little fast .But over all, three big thumbs up nice job on the editing as well my brother !!
nice work but I thin after sawing the tail you have to clean the cut with the chisel. At the end, I think, the union do not have to be so tight because there has to be space for the glue. Nice day.

I just got a tenon saw off Amazon. If Veritas are mid-range, then mine is a low mid-range, I guess. It had good reviews, with one persistent complaint: It was filed too aggressively and the users had to re-file the teeth to be able to make the initial cuts. I, on the other hand, try to follow Matt's advice in his saw-using video. My only complaint is that I got a low mid-range saw with too many teeth/inch, so it cuts slow. But unlike Japanese-style saws, it doesn't make my hand cramp because I don't need to white-knuckle the handle. I'd like one like that L-N he's using, but I doubt one of my kidneys is worth much on the open market. I don't mean to be a hype man, but if you've trouble with sawing and haven't seen that video, then watch it.
