The audio levels were fine for me, but like you said it's a bit echoey at times. It was really noticeable at the start of the previous video that there's been a big change in the acoustics of the workshop.

Excellent video Matt... immaculate joint as far as I could see - something to aspire to for us amateurs. Audio was fine for me. A bit of an echo as some others have said but it didn’t distract and I’m sure it will disappear when you move all your stuff in :-). Cheers ....
In these videos I think it would be a great idea to give examples on how these joints are used.
They are used to join pieces of wood together.

Great work, I see what you mean about the lighting you mentioned in a previous video. The audio levels are really good maybe a little loud when using the mallet Maybe some sound proofing foam may be of use

I find it easier getting a wide chisel and a square bit of wood and I clamp both bits of wood in the vice with the square bit of wood following the marking out of the dovetail and then just slowly keep taking bits of wood using the spare piece of wood as a guide until both bits of wood are flush with eachother, always ends up with a lovely finish and no fluffy edges from using a saw either because you're only using a chisel
A beautiful joint Matt. You didn’t trim down the sides of the tail but left the saw cuts as they were. Is that how it’s usually done? Could there be a small unevenness there?
Great vid Matt !! Bit old and creeky myself..., so my only suggestion might be that, for newer wood workers or ol geezers like myself, is cut back on the espresso a little you talk a little fast .But over all, three big thumbs up nice job on the editing as well my brother !!

Hi 👋 I’m planning on making my first “proper” workbench very soon and wondering if this joint would be suitable for a workbench base…legs and stretchers ? I only took up the hobby last summer but now I feel ready for the challenge…reason for considering this option is just an alternative to standard Biden mortise and tenons…🤓👍

Loving these videos, I don't know if anyone asked this of you yet, but why did you not first clean up the dovetail with a chisel before tracing it onto the other piece? Wouldn't doing so give you a tighter fit when everything is all cut? Thanks!

nice work but I thin after sawing the tail you have to clean the cut with the chisel. At the end, I think, the union do not have to be so tight because there has to be space for the glue. Nice day.
I know that one of the woods you're using is Ash, but what is the other?

As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
Paul Sellers knife wall for sawing would help this project maybe.

Audio OK but soft. Lighting when using the carcase saw dark, but still uber useful tutorial mate!
I just got a tenon saw off Amazon. If Veritas are mid-range, then mine is a low mid-range, I guess. It had good reviews, with one persistent complaint: It was filed too aggressively and the users had to re-file the teeth to be able to make the initial cuts.
I, on the other hand, try to follow Matt's advice in his saw-using video. My only complaint is that I got a low mid-range saw with too many teeth/inch, so it cuts slow. But unlike Japanese-style saws, it doesn't make my hand cramp because I don't need to white-knuckle the handle. I'd like one like that L-N he's using, but I doubt one of my kidneys is worth much on the open market.
I don't mean to be a hype man, but if you've trouble with sawing and haven't seen that video, then watch it.
so a halfing joint...is that the same as a half lap joint?
My Dad used to drive me mad by always saying, without fail at any and every opportunity, "You are the ruler, that is a rule." Thought he was so funny. (Brilliant talented cabinet maker mind.)

well for those that have an ear infection the audio is a bit low ahahaha. its probably fine tho, good video to me the intro always seems a bit scratchy like its way louder and i have to turn it down and then back up.

hi Matt, it was to do with your presentation speed! I teach carpentry myself mainly to newbies and they cannot cope with fast demonstrations, I know most of your viewers are probably younger intermediates or beginners, I am more than capable of making that joint and wanted to see how you made it so perfect and maybe learn something new along the way, which I did! even so I found it difficult to keep up, I’m getting on a bit and and find it hard to catch everything young folk say these days because you speak so fast, everything seems to be done at breakneck speed, my mantra to students is the slower you go! The quicker you get, With more accuracy! Fortunately for you and others on RUclips, us viewers can watch over and over and so pick things up! Please don’t take this as negative feedback! I hope it is taken as constructive for that is the manner in which it is sent! I have viewed your pieces on the web site Wow!
