  • Hello lovely people! I am out in the country! Curious to see what I am doing here? Well, watch the video and you will find out!
I was actually just intending to make a short vlog to thank everyone for subscribing and celebrate breaking the 100 subscriber count! I am SO excited and grateful! Then the topic of anxiety came up because it's a big theme for me the past two days, so I thought it actually was a great day to talk a bit more about coping with anxiety, overcoming feeling anxious and to crowd source some ideas of how to deal with anxiety better. Any ideas are so welcome to please do add what you do to copy, if you also have anxiety at times, in the comments!

I have lived with anxiety and depression for many years now and only recently been diagnosed with esophagal cancer. Ironically the diagnosis has given me a reality check on my life style and things that made me or make me anxious I realise now just aren't important. I am just a little bit scared of catching covid though still and knowing how that effects people with cancer.

Hello Christine. Another interesting vlog, and I must say, you are looking pretty good these days. I don't know why, but I have not had nearly as much anxiety through my esophageal cancer concerns as I thought I would have. Once in awhile I guess, but I just don't worry about it much so far. When I first got told about my 8cm tumor in January, yes that caused some anxiety for a few days. Then finding out it was cancer, yes, that set me back another few days. And now waiting to hear the results of the last CT/PET scan on Thursday, not much anxiety, just patiently waiting. I'm sure that some real bad results (which I think I am quite prepared for), will probably give me another few days of anxiety. I think about the possibility of dying from this, and it does not seem to bother me nearly as much as I thought it would. I guess that is the worse that can happen, but we all get that eventually. I don't want to die yet, but I don't want to worry about it either. I totally plan to kick this cancer of mine in the ass and I'm sure I am going to have my fair share of anxiety in the near future, but so far, it has not been that bad. When I was younger, I used to have a lot of anxiety when things in my body were not running correctly. My mind would have a runaway many times. I guess my dad dying at a young age of 51 of bone cancer can do that to a guy. It sounds like you are eating by mouth now without dysphagia, is that what I heard? Or was that big meal through the feeding tube? I would go back and listen before commenting but I am scared I may lose all my words here. Thanks for the update on things.

I am a new sub. and am wishing you wellness and good health! I used to have an anxiety disorder that was actually quite debilitating. Out of desperation one day I started drawing- at first just simple flowers then moved on to birds. Lo g story short I am now an artist! But the real gift is that creating art continues to be a huge stress reliever for me. Adult coloring books, art journaling, doodling, finger paint are easy ways to relax w/o slipping into thinking you have to create a masterpiece. For me, the mental ruminating was replaced with the rhythmic strokes of the pencil, color pencil, brush. I think knitting works the same way for some people.

Perfect! I'm a life long artist AND anxiety sufferer lol😏...I work with children with Autism, and find Art therapy works wonders for those who like to participate in it! (Everyone has their comfort zone) I myself carry a sketchbook with me in my backpack everywhere I go!

I'm so sorry you've been anxious, my dear. To deal with my major anxiety... I remember I am not alone. God is always with me. And you. Please know, I am not religious at all and not trying to push any religion or anything on anyone. But I am a big believer and fan of God. And the angels. And the cosmos. And whatever else is out there. But we are sooooo not alone. So to calm myself, I envision (and sometimes even feel) God hugging me tight. Oh, and I take anti-anxiety meds that I truly think help a lot too 😜.
Thinking of you and wishing you the best!!!

Thanks for the latest video. It's such a huge topic given everything we're going through so what a great idea to share some strategies. For me different things help on different days but here are a few of them:
    - talking to a psychologist or good friend
-writing to do lists of (big and small) things that I want to get done or questions I would like to find out more about
-'worry dump' where you literally set a timer for 15 minutes to write down what's bothering you and then leave it alone for the rest of the day.
Since starting a drug called Keppra my anxiety has been worse. After I had my first panic attack I began carrying some Lorazepam with me incase I thought I needed it. Haven't ever used it in this way but having the choice eases the anxiety during difficult appointments etc.
    - exercise (yoga and pilates in particular)
    - trying to find downtime to process after days where the pressure and information piles on.
    - Headspace app
I'm learning and adjusting all the time. Xx

Meditation has helped me clear my anxiety, it takes time. I started by meditating before bed to youtuber Steve Nobel I like his voice and his metaphysical approach, but there are many teachers out there. Just relaxing and quieting the mind and body while focusing on slow in and out breath is very beneficial and it doesn't have to be a long session, I currently do meditation 15 minutes in the morning and from 15 to 45 minutes in the evening, Spend more time in NATURE! and enjoy every minute of life, Laughter, find appreciation and gratitude for the smallest of things. I'll suggest a book you may enjoy it's called "Dying to be me" by Anita Moorjani, her story of cancer recovery may inspire you as it has me. Many Blessings to you and I'll peek in to see how you're doing. 🙏💖✌

First of all I’m sorry you’re going through this and my favorite aunt has pancreatic cancer. I’m a 16 year old girl with severe anxiety and I have a history of acid reflux, which has disappeared and now only happens occasionally but I’m still scared...this is terrifying. I read about this thing called Barrett’s and dysphagia and now I’m really scared. I haven’t had any swallowing difficulties but I’m always scared it’s gonna happen to me and I’ll die before I graduate. I beg my mom to let me have another endoscopy but she won’t let me go(the last time I had an endoscopy was in 2015) It’d got to the point where I have panic attacks and she just tells me to go on medication for anxiety and OCD. I’m so scared there’s something wrong with my body and it’s taken over my life. I don’t have any heartburn and the only reflux symptom I get is a burning or gross feeling in my mouth which happens rarely. But I’m still scared that I might have damage and my mom just tells me to see a psychiatrist or a school nurse who doesn’t know anything about this. I recently had a physical back in December but then I looked up that doctors can’t see your esophagus based on a physical alone. It’s progressed to the point I’ve become a hypochondriac and think even a slight ache near my breasts is a sigh of serious disease. I know all the doctors and nurses at Mass General and my cousin worked there. I sometimes mistake the tightness of my bra for heartburn or bad chest pains which I know sounds ridiculous but it’s really scary for me plz help

In my opinion, it sounds like the only thing that might ease your mind would be to have the scope or whatever testing and that might make it well worth it right there to ease your mind until the next thing comes up. It may be expensive where you are, I don't know. If you have trouble eating and food getting stuck when trying to swallow, I would seriously consider getting some tests done without delay. But I also know from my own experiences from my younger day that the mind really can wonder out of control sometimes, and I also hear that anxiety can cause chest pain and dysphagia etc. You are real young for esophageal cancer I think, but I am not a physician, so I really don't know. I think you are probably fine and your mind may be playing tricks on you, but that's just my uneducated guess. @@jennaleenapolitano7434
