Easily the best snatcher and ball winner of the country post Kempia era. His tackles were tougher than many of his contemporary defenders. “Midfield general”, “Oxygen cylinder” - nicknames. Used to marshal the midfield like no one else. Brilliant with his free-kicks. Still remember the “dead leaf” shot that foxed Bhaskar Ganguly and found the net in the 1979 final, easily one of the best performances of his career, the Cosmos and Ararat matches being the two other career best matches of the “Indian Beckenbauer”.
