    Tannoy’s are so much less boxy sounding. Amazingly open. Imagine I’m talking to you...that’s Tannoy in this demo. Now imagine I keep talking and cup my hands around my mouth. That’s MA in this demo. Thx for posting these!

    • @RennieAsh

      I found more of a cup sound with the Tannoy. Granted they sound a little easier in this recording due to the echoey room. I think they really need a nicer room (treated) and of course listening in person

      @@RennieAsh I agree the Tannoy's are in a box sound, but smoother than the MA, I like the MA's as i like detail and they still have loads of bass without being boomy

    Going back and forth between the Tannoy and MA300, the voices in the MA seem much much cleaner! Tannoy has a very nice sound overall but the voice sounds so muffled. The MA300 is my pick.

    I am surprised that I had not come across your channel before - the sound quality is excellent!
    The Tannoys sound natural and are therefore more musically engaging, The Monitor Audios sounds artificially forward in the mid-range and have a harsh, sibilant top end. The sound is a little strained' by comparison and would become tiring to listen to after a short while.
    I would happily have either pair though, as from experience I find that with a bit of tweaking, most well designed speakers can be coaxed into producing a sound that's clean and effortless.

    • @SoundSommelier
      @SoundSommelier  6 лет назад +2

      Michael Cuffe I absolutely agree with your considerations. However I only partially agree with your solution. I can assure you we used appropriate and rightly connected interconnects. That said, tweaking can be fun for some but boring and frustrating for many others. But simply connect a speaker and found that it sounds fantastic is a joy for everybody

    • @CrescendoKeysChannel

      I have both and I actually feel the Tannoys treble is sibilant while the MAs is smooth. Tannoys have more wow factors but MAs are more neutral sounding and I enjoy the MAs more.

    In my opinion the Tannoy's are much more life like, warm and talented. The Monitor Audio's sound like speakers, although very good. The Tannoy's are an amazing speaker for the price, certainly on my wish list :)

  • @MultiFireant
    @MultiFireant 4 года назад +5

    I do agree that the Tannoys are excellent in reproducing vocals but the Monitor Audio Silver 500 sounds more vibrant and distinct with instruments and in particular percussion. I have similar mellowed sounds with my old Kefs but have decided to go for a change with speakers more atoned to modern music.

  • @yowandbm
    @yowandbm 4 года назад +4

    Oh wow, how many audiophiles are writing comments. The sound is like the room needs acoustic treatment. Thanks for the video, they are great!
    Tannoy sounds too warm, which is like you are robbed of many delicate sounds going on there. It is nice to listen, but does not sound like a Hi-fi when compared to the MAs. It doesn't sound ballanced at all. MAs are neutral speakers, as they supposed to be and sound so good, you can hear every little detail happening like it's in front of your ear.
    General public loves warm speakers, as they are not so foreward at your face and that's why these Tannoys are preferred here. I just love to hear everything there is in a song, and I felt like I heard only 70% on Tannoys.

    Could you help me choose? I want to connect them with Yamaha Rxa 3020, play only for movies and serials, you think they look good with Yamaha, being that the use will be for movies?

    Main differences to me....Tannoy sounds more organic and musical than both Monitor Audios. By comparison ... the sound from the Monitor Audio sounds more processed (machine made?)...whereas the Tannoys come across as more organic...ie...more "human".

    • @ichigobankai2343

    The monitors need a minimum of 100 hours run time to start sounding their best. I listened to all the above in a demo room including the £4000 Dali Rubicon 8's and nothing compared with the 500's not even close. Its all subjective to your own tastes though, I like punchy clear sound and although the others had low end bass in droves nothing touched the 500's for the full package. I felt like i had been beaten up when I came out of the demo room in a good way.

Then wired from my iPhone to my main stereo and realized I was only listening to my iPad, my bedroom system, my home theater system, and my stereo system playing music reproduced by three different speaker systems uploaded by who knows what devices. So they were just too many variables to say precisely which one would sound better in person., but to my ears, as old as they are, I would say that the MA’s Sound more like very good speakers. The Tannoy’s sound more like live music. More air around the notes of the Guitars better able to differentiate the voices When the two singers sing together. More clarity in the music altogether. Again this is no substitute for listening for yourselves in person

    I like the MA s for their open sound and the tannoys for the mid range. Think I would prefer the Tannoys as mid range accuracy is most important to me. They are all great speakers, wish I could have any of them. Currently surviving on a good soundbar as my partner won’t allow speakers in the room. The soundbar produces hardly any mid range. I can hear details well but the sound is not dramatic.

    I've not got a great setup here to listen closely (mid range sennheiser headphones, decent sound card and browser configured to optimse audio) but from what I hear... I'd say 1st 500's 2nd 300's 3rd tannoy just based on the fact that the 300's sound a little more compressed compared to the 500's and the tannoy's seem to emphasize the vocals a little too much. I would prefer to start with an even playing field when it comes to adjusting EQ and with the tannoy's I feel as though you would have to counter balance the highs a little. I guess it all comes down to preference really as many others have said and we don't know if these have been run-in

    They possess elements characteristic of Klipsch in terms of nuanced detail, but better in the mid-range than the less expensive Klipsch.
    The Monitor Audio sounds like the average Polk, JBL, Onkyo etc, speakers. Not that they are bad, but they’re “pedestrian”. They don’t have that live in concert sound. Depends on what you like.

    The BEST, Tannoy for me.

  • @ulises3113

    Hello,
    So, I largely prefer Tannoy. Better separation of instruments, better balance, less saturation, better 3d sound, a impressive sound of pleasure. The scene is larger. At the beginning one could think is not dynamic but after some seconds one makes out in its global it is more harmonic. These Audio make me think of Audio Gold when I listed to them 4 years ago. They were fine but I preferred Magnat 807. Thé Monitor make me think of Focal 836w, Focal Aria, very directif, a sound as if all instruments were pasted together. Not my taste.

    I went back and forth so many times. Is there such a thing as too much mid? The tannoys just have the “that’s it” factor.

      Italia458driver - that's exactly what I thought when switching back and forth. After listening to the MAs for a bit, then switching to the Tannoys, my brain suddenly went 'bingo'. It's like it goes into a state of ease in listening to the Tannoys...so easy for the brain to process b/c it sounds so instantly more natural than the MAs (not that I think the MAs are bad speakers at all! I own a pair of Silver 5is).

    I'm trying to decide on a music/cinema sound system and I never even considered the tannoy but they sound far more involved in this example

    Tannoy sounds congested to me. The 500 feels pretty rich and full when I skip back and forth on the timeline

    Tanoy -> S300 then S500 . Tanoy sound is excellent so clear between 3 range.

    When the Tannoy plays, I hear less of "the room" , which may mean a better soundstage. I just think the Tannoy was more present for the vocals and the finger style leads jack was playing.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh 2 года назад

      The Tannoy is more direct in higher frequencies due to narrower dispersion, so it sounds better in this particular room which is very echoey

    M.A 500 the better spks for me . Better Instruments separation , lower noise floor , less bright , less fatigue for prolonged listening . But if u talk about value for $$ , the XT8F wins handdown, its Bass response is superior.

    I hear a lot more of the low end with the 500's but the Tannoy's do sound good.

    The Monitor Audios are laid back and very even, but the Tannoys? mmmmm, far more musical involvement for me. I'd need to listen to a wider range of music but on this track the Tannoys were best imho.

    The Tannoy sounds like its coming from down in a well, they're so soft they're almost muddy. The 300s sound too small, the 500 is a clear winner for me.

      In my room (quite big) The Tannoy is very open and have a great great soundstage and they are never muddy, I would say it is quite revealing ( A tad bright to my ear with a lot of detail) .

      @@davidboggs7519 They are many reviews for XTF8 in the internet, which I've found helpful . XTF-8 are great speakers. Really great soundstage and seperation, quick dynamic speaker, great bass, good mid but they have two issues. 1 they sound bright , so they need warm amp and source ( slow speed tube amp should match fine with them, because XTF8 has a really fast speed) . 2 The bass is really big, so you need some space from the back wall. If you have a small room (try them in my bed room , bass is too boomy), dont buy them. Hope this help and hope you can audition them somewhere around you

    nice clarity and musicality will ALL 3 speakers. the tannoy's had a slight edge (taughter) when it came to the bass line. it seamed [more] effortlessly into that being listened to; however, could live [happily] with any of the speakers.

      They really need a good run like the manual states otherwise they do sound a bit flat and lifeless. I used to own the RX6 - very lively but not accurate. I didn't hear the Silver S range.
