    7:08 A 'Turban' is a long fabric thingy that you wrap around your head.

    Correct, Vermont Yankee and Fukushima Daiichi are both GE Mark I BWR-4's. VY however keeps all of their safety systems and EDGs(Emergency Diesels) inside of the plant, away from the elements unlike Fukushima.

      No tsunamis in Vermont

    • @anhedonianepiphany5588
      @anhedonianepiphany5588 5 лет назад +1

      @Phantasm: Don't be an idiot! The Daiichi diesel generators _were_ housed in the plant, not open to the "elements". In fact, if the generators _had_ been outside the plant at a higher elevation, the meltdowns would not have occurred.
      Daiichi had generator sets at three different elevations, but this was still inadequate to protect them from the tsunami. The VY plant also had their generators in pretty close proximity (eggs in one basket configuration), and one localised fire, explosion, or flood, could've potentially knocked them _all_ out!
      Nuclear needs to be 'walkaway safe', like proposed LFTR types or similar liquid fuelled reactors. Some other unforeseen disaster could have caused shutdown and loss of backup systems on the VY reactor, as in Japan, and you'd be just as stuffed as they were.

    • @richardscathouse
      @richardscathouse 4 года назад

      All they would have to have done in Japan was turn on the emergency cooling! But no, that would have gotten their white gloves dirty! 🤭🤭🤭🤭

    • @Skyhawk1998
      @Skyhawk1998 8 лет назад +7

      +David Barroso It is a disgusting example of hypocrisy that they cry for green energy which is unreliable, expensive, and unproven, while decrying any new reactor as dangerous. That forces companies to either keep these ancient reactors running, or to use fossil fuels. If the US would just stop being so scared of anything that sounds science-y then maybe we could stop poisoning the planet that keeps us alive.
