  • Video recording of Elder Gabriel, a disciple of Saint Paisios of Mount Athos [Kelli of St. Christodoulos, Holy Monastery of Koutloumosiou, March 2017].
WMA (Wisdom from Mount Athos) Series
S01E10 Elder Gabriel - Smile when you are upset
    Subtitles: English, Romanian
    Video recording: Daniel Buzdugan ( / daniel.buzdugan.5 )
    Romanian translation: Urdea Mihail Pelerinaje ( / izabela.simion.7 )
    Elder Gabriel:
"If an upset man smiles, this immediately brings him into heaven.
An Arab proverb says that who sweetly speaks can breastfeed even lions.
In order to have the blessing of God we have to confess often and go to Church often.
Pray without ceasing, "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me! Most Holy Theotokos, save us!”
Fast on Wednesdays and Fridays without oil and on other days that the Holy Church establishes.
When we have the blessing of our spiritual father, to commune with the Body and Blood of our Lord, as often as we can.
Read the Holy Scriptures, even a little bit each day.
We should do at least a little charity towards a poor family..."

The purest spiritual teaching can often seem so simple when we hear it, but sometimes takes a lifetime to understand , let alone impliment.

Elder Gabriel is currently going through very difficult times / intense persecution for his stance against ecumenism and the attacks on our faith from within. Please pray for him.

*Walling-off from Heretic Ecumenists and Schismatic Old Calendarists, the only way to salvation*
      ruclips.net/video/TWxNOUCYtjo/видео.html
CANON 15 OF THE FIRST AND SECOND COUNCIL
But as for those who on account of some heresy condemned by Holy Synods or Fathers sever themselves from communion with their president, that is, because he publicly preaches heresy and with bared head teaches it in the Church, such persons as these not only are not subject to canonical penalty for walling themselves off from communion with the so-called bishop before synodical clarification, but they shall be deemed worthy of due honor among the Orthodox. For not bishops, but false bishops and false teachers have they condemned, and they have not fragmented the Church's unity with schism, but from schisms and divisions have they earnestly sought to deliver the Church.
      Interpretation St. Nicodemus the Hagiorite’s:
If, however, the said presidents are heretics, and are preaching their heresy openly, and on this account those subject to them separate themselves, and even though it be before there has been any conciliar or synodal trial concerning the heresy, but are even deemed to deserve fitting honor as Orthodox Christians, since not only have they caused no schism in the Church on account of their separation, but have rather freed the Church from the schism and heresy of their pseudo-bishops.
Interpretation of St. Nicodemus Milash Bishop of Dalmatia :
If, however, a Bishop, Metropolitan, or Patriarch begins to preach publicly in Church any heretical doctrine that is antithetical to Orthodoxy, then the aforementioned clergy have a right and at the same time an obligation to separate themselves forthwith from that Bishop, Metropolitan, or Patriarch, and for this reason not only will they not be subject to any canonical penalty, but will, moreover, even be praised, insofar as they have not thereby reprehended or rebelled against legitimate Bishops, but against false bishops and false teachers, and have not thereby initiated any schism in the Church, but on the contrary have delivered the Church, as far as possible, from schism and division.

On my birthday about ten years back, I was walking into a store where I'm from (Long Island, NY), & a dad was walking out w/ his kid. I share a birthday w/ my dad, & I wasn't in the best mood b/c my mom had always ruined our birthdays by acting nasty to him--I'd learned to expect a crappy day every year. Anyway, I must've been looking like a serious Russian or something, & this black guy w/ his kid says "Hey man, smile, it's not so bad!" Guy really brightened my day by putting himself out there like that. Obviously he had a big smile on his face. That's what this video made me think of. It's really true. Happiness & smiles are contagious. After death it will be worth something in our favor to have sent smiles to people who seemed upset. Every little thing counts. CHRIST IS RISEN! GOD BLESS YOU!

Fasting on Mondays is traditionally very important too. Some priests say, that those people who fast on mondays as well are stronger spiritually against demons, and attacks of demons, for some reason.

Some Orthodox fast also on Mondays in honor of the bodiless powers. Some also fast on Saturday in honor of Christ's descent into Hell and as preparation for communion. Truth be told, one could fast every day but Sunday with a blessing - Tuesday for St John the Baptist (who was an ascetic) and Thursday for the Apostles (we have an annual Apostles fast, do we not? Some also practice a weekly one). Each according to his/her strength and what is beneficial in drawing the heart to long more for God.
