    I'd seen other people were doing that hull plating on the back and always thought it was over kill, but didn't realize how little of the plating is on the actual Trumpeter Model. Sort of shocking they would release something in that scale missing that much detail. I mean, I built a 1/400 scale version, and it has the plating on the hull. Why Trumpeter couldn't do that as part of the mold on 1/200 is sort of baffling. (Also, cool face reveal for number 50) 🙂

    Imagine the machining and casting fabrication involved in the ships propeller and engines systems.
    Really mind boggling in scope and detail. Simply coaling the finished ship a major undertaking.
    Millions of riveting operations to join the many complex shaped hull plates.
    I know of no welding type joinery about the ship perhaps soldering for electrics and similar.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  2 года назад

      I know it boggles the mind really. With the lack of modern tech we have now too. Casting something the size of a propeller is just beyond belief.
      Lots of lost arts and trades now though sadly! I expect there are few in the world who can rivet anymore

    David Blair was 2nd Officer of Titanic just before sailing day. When Chief Officer Wilde jointed Titanic, the shuffling of officers saw Lightoller shifted from 1st Officer to 2nd Officer. So Titanic had two 2nd Officers in her lifetime. David Blair and Charles H. Lightoller.

    ooh and the answer to your question is Charles Herbert Lightoller. I would recommend his book: Titanic and Other Ships. Fun fact: the guy that takes his boys across the channel in his boat in the movie Dunkirk was inspired by Lightoller and his boat the Sundowner, which can still be seen at Kents maritime museum, if youre ever down that way...

    Hi, I thought at first that you would have flamed the plating before gluing it. For me, some thick "rebellious" plates were difficult to hold in place to give them the right shape because I too didn't burn them before.
    However, the result is great!
    The voice has a face, nice!

    Fascinating. But I'm not convinced. When I look at the model from dead astern, the edge of the plates seem raised a lot. In scale it would seem to be about six inches! Imagine it in full size, and it would seem that the plates are falling off of the frames.

    So great to see you in person! Now I can put a face onto your voice haha. Again mate, your model is one of the greatest ever build! The detail you put into it is realy rare to see. The time and effort you put into it realy pays off. I finished mine few weeks ago with the Scaledecks. And I had one big flaw 😐 my lighting wich I had put into the model to light it all gave up. I think I drilled thru a ledstrip by coincidence. Now I have only the hull that lights up 😔 but still it is such a beauty because of the Scaledecks. Realy great job you are doing bro! Your model could fit right into the movie 🙂 Keep it up! Grtz!

    Great video, very informative, but one thing I noticed though was the water line on the stern. I'm not sure if it was designed that way ( maybe being remote controlled, more weight ) or it was accidental but the water line is a little high, it's suppose to go through the 37 ft mark. The numbers decal start to low down, about 2 ft to low but the actual water line on there now is only about 1 ft to high. I'm sorry I'm just a very detail oriented person so things like that catch my eye, not to mention tons of research about Titanic's Drought and how the water line curves up slightly at the bow and the stern which a lot of people don't know and will put the water line straight across on the models, it will either be too high at the center of the ship and perfect at bow and stern or vice versa.

    Good morning Robbie ! I follow you from the beginning, congratulations on your construction and thank you for your advice! if I understood correctly, we agree that a missing partition must be added separating the 1st class entrance hall from the "millionaires' promenade", deck B, which I did. Only here, by presenting the "sides" N1P1 / N2P2, I realize that the "slice" of the said partition is found right in the middle of a window! Even imagining moving it a little to one side or the other won't do it! Did you encounter the same issue, and how did you fix it?
