Holy sht! I've been skating for over 25 years, but only ever street - we don't have a lot of bowls where I used to live, and no half-pipes whatsoever - and this explained pumping SO well! Thank you!!! My mind is blown right now, can't wait to try this out tomorrow at my [new] local park 🤟
Dude your understanding of skateboarding and your ability to teach are incredible. Would you ever teach some transition or street fundamentals (slappys, transfers, maybe stairs)
Yeah. Definitely. All in due time. We have a flatground course on patreon.com/skateiq - and we will do more and more as time goes on but we have almost 200 videos in there as we speak
I tried this on a half pipe and wow what a difference. Before I'd pump on both sides and slowly increase speed. Afterwards I just pumped on one and even then had to tone it way down, or I'd fly past the coping. Now I just need to convert this to bowl skating. I know you are going to say it is just the same, but on a half pipe it is easier to get in the rhythm.
great comment! a pump on a wall is crazy weird. One yt skater tried to explain it like being on a sideways ramp but when you are up there all logic disappears!
BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS FREE OF CHARGE, MEGA, EKSTRA, GOOD TUTORIAL. It all just works exactly like you said. Second day on some small ramp and I already hit the "coping", I guess its time to do something up there (at the top of the ramp)!
Hey, it's entirely possible that you could have an existing injury (especially if you've been doing some Jaws Homoki stuff down stairs) that is more pronounced when you're pumping. That was my case and I benefitted from using a certain knee compression sleeve- not gonna shill the brand but it's the one almost everyone uses. *I'm not a Doctor. I'm a magician, dammit.
Exhausting , yes. Heels, meh, dont love that. Maybe try and make sure your toes aren’t off the edge of the board and strengthen your ankles so you have strong calf’s so your heels dont drop
You can get good cardio out of pump tracks. Then use that stamina for Mitchie's recommended 20 minute pump fest at the vert ramp when you get to one. Good luck with the air quest!
Great video! super quick: is it possible to get guidance on the bail for vert, for future? I am learning, and when on vert I actually find it hard to get away from the board and straight to the kneeslide. I go: feet/knees! feels bad.
I keep falling away from the ramp on a half pipe. I don’t know why ? Any tips ?

Love this! Some people say that you should pump up as quickly/strongly as possible at the beginning of the transition, or rather at the "sweet spot", rather than "spreading out" the pump over the whole transition. I have tried both and kind of feel as if I get more speed if I manage to hit that sweet spot. What are your thoughts on this?
The sweet spot will be a good way to think about it until you’re going so fast that you have to extend it out. But being a little punchier with your pumps when you’re just coping high will help

@@SKATEiQ Should you still be in the "pumping up motion" all the way up to the coping if you want to go onto or over the coping, or should you be done with your pump a bit before the coping and then just chill (and prepare for what you want to do on the coping or in the air)?
Mitchie actually has a video where he points out the "zones" of a ramp and where the pump should be spread for maximum results. You'll see a lot of guys who skate minis and then can't make it to the coping on vert because they're only pumping the lower tranny and then collapsing into the wall, which kills their speed. I'm expending a lot less energy while having more speed using the SKATEiQ techniques of staying light (not pushing into the ramp) and doing big, easy pumps for big easy transition radius.

@@friscotecsk8s119 Yes, I actually watched that video. Great information! Does this mean that you should (kind of) still be in the "pumping up" motion (still extending your legs / raising your butt) as your board reaches the coping? Or should you have completed the pumping up motion before the board reaches the coping?
So much of this video seems like it's just missing the incredibly main basic point you never even said once. You're talking about all these different things like your hips moving up and down and putting pressure on the ramp... When all it's actually about is just bending your knees so you can PUSH off the wall (through the transition). It's really like the simplest thing to understand, you're literally just pushing off a wall, and should be explained as such, which was just never even plainly said in this video. Now there is also what I call the "SWING" effect, which is about manipulating your center of gravity such that it moves up as you're moving up, and it moves down as you're moving down, producing acceleration, but that is such an incredibly tiny amount compared to what you can generate by simply PUSHING.
Well when most people push off the wall they end up slowing down. Also you can bend your knees a million different ways. If you watch a video you know to bend your knees, and if youre watching how to pump videos its obviously not working
Right, pushing off a vertical wall does nothing except make you stand up. You have to push off TRANSITION or just any plane that isn't perfectly perpendicular or parallel to gravity. That is the part you completely fail to explain here. And no, I can pump just fine, don't assume everyone who watches a tip video must know nothing about it...@@SKATEiQ
Finally one tip video from you I don't like. Most of this video is you demonstrating incorrect ways to pump. I'm more confused now than I was going into this video. Please focus on correct form. 99% of your videos are gold but this one could use a redo.
I love it when you talk about pumping
Hahaha i dont know why this made me laugh
You are the best skating teacher online fs. Thanks for all of these videos
You are so damn good at explaining these concepts in depth. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Happy that it’s translating
Dude I appreciate all of your videos. You’re really good at explaining things in detail.

That’s great. We’re dropping a park course next month so keep your eyes peeled
So good, i spent a day just pumping. I was so sore afterwards but i was so confident afterwards! Thx for the tips
Can you do one of this in a bowl? I find it hard to pump around corners and waterfalls
Yes!!!

Ahhaha light work !

Amazing videos. You really get into the crux of it.
Btw, i find pumping exhausting and with a lot of pressure on the knees. Is that normal?

you look great...sturdy
Thanks!
I don’t have a vert ramp near me what would be the next best thing to practice on? At the moment I’m trying to learn airs
