I actually used the Rogue Manta Ray today at the gym I go to. I have to admit that it's the best adjustable bench I ever used. It was as stable as could be and just felt really good to bench press on. If I were in the market for an adjustable bench, and I had enough money to spend, this would be the bench I would get, hands down. As a side night I'm 61 years old, lifetime lifter, I had no problems moving this bench around in the gym.
@@kahiau4life Does your wife lift and if so has she had any problems using the bench? Trying to get a sense of if it would be easy or not as a woman lifting it. Thanks
Great review, as always. I have the mata ray bench. The manta ray has zero back pad side to side play. The hinge points need to be tightened correctly to ensure the bench doesn't have any play and at the same time maintaining that the ladder system still moves freely.
I compared this vs the REP Blackwing when upgrading my bench. Very happy with the Blackwing although it is heavy. It was one of the few times I didn’t pay the premium for the Rogue name for my home gym.
love the felt weight section, extremely important I would say for this review because when I saw that 140lb weight I immediately started looking at other benches
great reviews, very in depth and it really shows you think about the small things people will care about with day to day use. great quality videos too. thanks for this content. I hope this channel really blows up they deserve it.
My home gym is almost uniquely Rogue, but I opted for the REP Blackwing over the Manta Ray. The Manta Ray just did not offer me enough additional value to justify the cost. The Blackwing has been a great bench and I'm happy with it.
I’m looking at the blackwing for the decline feature and storage.. how do u find the weight to lift up the bench and ease of moving it around? Also, do u find the decline stable at higher decline levels?
Why these companies don’t put a friggin handle on the foot catch is beyond me. Ironmaster has a handle on theirs. Even Titan has a handle on their leg roller attachment for their bench that costs $539
I was stuck between this bench and the blackwing but the price for Rogue killed it for me. Still a really beautiful bench just not for blue collar workers.
The AB 3.0 comes with a welded joint now in the middle! Well they just took the original plates and welded them into place so there’s no play. Works awesome!
I would never get this at that price. I love Rogue products but their shipping costs are too high. $200 for shipping is half the price I just paid for the Iron Master Super Bench Pro V2. The REP 3100 only costs $269 with free shipping. This Rogue Bench isn't 3x better than that. Thanks GGR for the review of this bench and the IronMaster.
Great review as usual. I bought the Rogue adjustable 3.0 several months ago and it’s outstanding. The Manta Ray was shown at the time but good God is it overkill (and I thought the 3.0 once assembled was overkill but it’s $400 cheaper and will be an heirloom some day). The bottom handle on both Manta and 3.0 should be stainless steel knurl and they don’t have to machine a new part to implement, they already have it available with the MG-3 handles (I bought a pair to replace handles on a Paramount Total Chest in my garage gym and they are a spectacular upgrade). The other issue I didn’t see you comment on (I may have missed) but this isn’t really a decline practically speaking for use with heavy dumbbells, it’s more of a decline ab bench. Rep’s decline FID is far more functional if you are trying to get in position solo with 80lb + dumbbells for decline DB bench press as your feet are still on the ground vs 3 feet in the air. I had an old FID and it’s just not safe to try to maneuver into place solo when it’s a reverse decline like this.
If you can't get into position with 80lb dumbbells, the weight is just too heavy for you to manage. If it's *really* that big an issue, I offer you Titan rack mounted dumbell holders. Wheel the Manta over to the rack, get into position, urack dumbbell from the holders. Problem solved.
I emailed Rogue twice asking if the Manta Ray foot catch can be flipped around for nordics (another reviewer showed doing so) and both times Rogue told me doing so is not supported. While it’s easy enough to drill a hole, having to do so after spending $1,300 on a bench is nuts.
My guess is that it would work fine for Nordic curls even without the hole in the foot catch. I have their AB-3, which has essentially the same foot catch, although the hole is on the opposite side vs the Manta Ray, and it works just fine flipping it over, pulling out the pin and sliding it in. It's not gonna go anywhere. Having said that, I thought Rogue had indicated they would be drilling a hole in both sides of the foot catch. It's kinda disappointing that they didn't.
Did you all just use a clip from another RUclips channel to demo the leg roller? What happen? You all cheap out on the leg roller after spending $1100 on the bench? Coop was like, "Screw the leg roller. Glucks Gym has the content we need for free." 😂
Are you just mad that you can't afford it? Who cares if Rogue priced it $10k? If you can't afford it, just move on and buy the bench within your means. But to be outwardly angry at Rogue because of your monetary shortfalls is just weird. What's really going on here???
The "felt weight" concept is so helpful and arguably more important than the weight of the bench itself. Used plenty of benches at a commercial gym which are light enough to be unstable when benching or using for chest supported rows, but their felt weight didn't match up. Big consideration for me is are you based in the US or not. If so, Rep and its free shipping make Blacking> Manta Ray. In the UK, you're paying almost £900 for the Blackwing and £1,400 for Manta Ray including shipping.
As an owner of the AB 3.0, I was so close to pulling the trigger on the manta ray, but passed because of the exact same reasons Coop discussed at the end.
I like the luggage test but I store my zero gap bench down the side of my functional trainer so have to lift the bench fully off the ground, so for that reason, I’m out.
I’m surprised this video didn’t mention Eleiko’s adjustable bench at all. That bench is even more expensive without the added features of the leg rollers and the Manta Ray stability platform. It doesn’t even offer as many positions as the Rogue. Are they comparable quality though?
Price is high, but comparing it to other commercial/university targeted benches it’s not much difference. Williams Strength/Elite FTS, Sorinex, Stray Dog… Coop is the first person I’ve seen who’s actually used this bench and not claimed it was the best bench they’ve ever used.. I was looking at this or WS for my gym.
Just an FYI the front handle is not injection molded, it's cast anodized aluminum. The reason they didn't use a knurled barbell handle is because it would have been impossible to make fit with the low profile design of the foot, which is far more important. When comparing with the REP bench notice how the supports where their knurled handle attaches are large, upright, and flat and give significantly more to bump your toes against. Besides that, this is actually an aplication where knurling doesnt make since since the lifting motion is rotational and the knurling wouldn't rotate it just causes more friction when lifting it. I'll take the Rogue design any day.
I’d love to see a review of the different benches that have come out since your last bench comparison video! I’d also love to see a video comparing barbells for women, (and any other legit equipment for women).
Any reviews on some of the concrete weights I’ve been seeing on my feeds lately? Rock weights make a dumbells and another makes plates. You get sent the molds and mix concrete and fill the molds for a lot cheaper than rubber sets you typically see. Thanks
Do you think Rogue will release a leg curl/extension for this bench? This is the premium bench would love if they build some extras for it like a leg curl/extension.
This bench seems very much like the bench version of Rogue’s previous multi grip bar. They should have consulted more with customers/reviewers before pulling the trigger. And I still think a press plate should be an option instead of a “wing”. It would add weight but people would be pressing against the bench instead of the floor so it would be impossible for the bench to move. You could even make the bench considerably lighter but if you add that plate, it ain’t going anywhere.
I understand the value point but I am glad companies still makes multiples options - to me gym investments like this bench can potentially last for multiple generations so I am happy to spend the premium money.
What’s the lowest decline I can set this Manta rRay up for? I love the fact it’s so stable for higher degrees of decline for ab and core work , but can I set it to a very low decline for dumbells work like the Blackwing? I’m really on the struggle bus between getting the Manta or Blackwing. The felt weight difference really concerns me for others being able to lift and move. The other thing is the stability and the build of the decline / foot catcher. It comes across in other reviews as well the foot catcher with the blackwing is poor and the back brace that attaches to the bench maybe not the best ? Would love here comments to help with my decision ?
Supposedly the nicer vinyl pad from the manta ray can be be purchased separately and attached to the adjustable bench 3.0 for between 200 and $300 from what I recall in an exchange with a rogue member services person but this was months ago during their expo at the arnold so idk if this option still exists.
Home Gym Discord members have reported trying to buy just the manta pad and getting a resounding NO from Rogue on every attempt. I would speculate Rogue will refust to sell it because it'll cannibalize Manta sales. they want people to have a reason to spend more on the Manta Ray and one of those reasons is the pad (which is incredible, btw!)
The felt weight needs to be the inspdutry standard for all benches, not only by awesome people like Coop who RUclips reviews, but by the companies out there building them as well…it’s a true deal breaker for some looking for an adjustable bench they can lift easily and move around without stretching and warning up for an hour first. So for me adjustable benches all need to have vertical stable storage and a felt test listing to even be considered these days. New industry standards right here with Coop….
This is too expensive, especially with REPs Blackwing bench for ~$300 less. I'm in the market for an adjustable bench and am leaning hard towards REP's offerings, but It's too bad that all of these high end benches are so freaking heavy. My dream bench would be basically the 14in Blackwing with the zero gap feature removed at a much lighter total weight. The gf can barely deadlift 135#s, let alone move a freaking bench that weight around the garage. Sheesh!
Not worth the cost, imo. Happy with the revisions they made to the Rogue AB 3.1, if you will. Welded joint in the middle, premium pad, etc. Even with the SS option, it's still cheaper than the Manta Ray. I really don't understand the UHMW ladder system either. Feels so unnecessary
The most important feature that caught my eye is the QUALITY pads; its high end foam, not stitched material that is stapled that shifts as you move; does anybody offer this same quality of foam pads?
As always thanks for the honest review. Rogue makes some really awesome stuff, but for me it is really hard to justify the price. I purchase the BlackWing and am extremely happy with it. It is a heavy bench, but for now the weight isn’t an issue. I use it everyday and move it all over my garage gym during my workouts. Thanks again!!!

@@pottsy1907 I find the Blackwing to be stable at all incline positions. The effective weight of lifting the front isn’t the full weight. Coop says what the weight and effective weight are in his video.
This is out of control, weight is a lazy way to make a bench feel solid. I believe the next big improvement in benches is less weight with more stability by virtue of better design, like the “manta ray” front foot. Surprise, my Cybex already had a wide plate front foot.
The made at home premium is really a heavy tax on this bench. It's a shame. I think it's an awesome option I'd love to have. Maybe I'll just save up for it.
Sure the stray dog bench is good. But when they lie on their delivery time and deliver material that has surface rust on it and when questioned say that it just surface rust it won't affect the strength. Basically stray dog sucks.
COOP... Do the Manta vs AB-3 instead of the Adjustable Bench 3.0... Do premium Rogue vs premium Rogue. Big Dog V Big Dog for Rogues best Premium Bench.
I have an extremely similar bench. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was made in the same Chinese factory. Laser cut numbers and logo, same ladder mechanism, long back pad. It’s like 100 lbs. got it from local gym equipment company for 1/4th the price. It’s sweet but I can tell you from experience that the hinge between the butt and back pads is a problem and can be injurious. It is just below surface level of the padding with no weight on it. Lay on it the wrong way, you might feel it. Lay on it with weight and it hits your sacrum, gonna hurt like a mf. The fact they’ll sell this for +800 with that hazard is idiocracy. I got mine for the price of Rogue’s foot catch. I just avoid the issue using just the back pad for flat presses. Dude, don’t buy brand names. There are companies out there selling what is basically the same product for a fraction because they are importing products from the same factory, branding is just different. Don’t let rogue fool you.
No matter how much a bench costs they're using vinyls.. Is there a reason who no one has used leather?? Isn't good leather more durable and ier than vinyl
I bought a Rogue 3.0. I really regret it. The pad kind of sucks. The finish quality is not great and the worst is the incline positions go from 15 to 30. I really want 20 for incline bench. It is strange to me that the Manta Ray has 20 but the 3.0 doesn't. Anyway don't buy the 3.0.

The made at home premium is really a heavy tax on this bench. It's a shame. I think it's an awesome option I'd love to have. Maybe I'll just save up for it.
Major lutie please.
Sure the stray dog bench is good. But when they lie on their delivery time and deliver material that has surface rust on it and when questioned say that it just surface rust it won't affect the strength. Basically stray dog sucks.
Commercial gyms would go with a heavy duty LifeFitness or HammerStrength bench, not Rogue.
Commerical gyms aren't their market. They're more for powerlifting/CrossFit/weightlifting gyms.
That this bench have the handle so close to the floor does not seem very nice in my opinion. Would prefer a bench that have the handle under the seat.
Honestly, after seeing the ironmaster bench review recently, all other adjustable benches don’t seem worth it
They’re not. I have the Ironmaster; no question it’s the best bench with the most options.
The narrow seat on the Ironmaster is terrible for heavy incline presses.

Coop did you sneak Winnie into this review?? 😂
I know what Gluck’s wife looks like, even if I see her backside for one second.
No matter how much a bench costs they're using vinyls.. Is there a reason who no one has used leather?? Isn't good leather more durable and ier than vinyl
You think Coop will ever get any bigger?
Yes!
Make a video showing what kind of home gym you could make for $1000 then have an empty room with just this bench 😅😅
Wack
@@reconstructionwouldhavesav9472 so cleverly thought out and articulated

Nobody wants to see cheap equipment.
Why are they not making them out of aluminum, the cost more then enough to be aluminum
We need a comparison video of Maximum advantage grip attachments compared to the other versions
No we don't
@@reconstructionwouldhavesav9472 yeah you're right, we need another comparison video of two nearly identical benches
I hate that Rogue cheapened the ladder system with plastic.
That plastic is on top of welded steel catches. One reviewer removed the ladder plastic and it is extremely solid under it.
I would still take the Super Bench Pro V2 all day
If only it weren’t so costly :/
Get your money up, stop being broke
@@mhxxd4Even if you have the money, why would you get this over a Blackwing or the Rogue 3.0?
@@avinashtyagi2 because it's better.
@@mhxxd4 Not $500 better
@@avinashtyagi2 i want the best
I bought a Rogue 3.0. I really regret it. The pad kind of sucks. The finish quality is not great and the worst is the incline positions go from 15 to 30. I really want 20 for incline bench. It is strange to me that the Manta Ray has 20 but the 3.0 doesn't. Anyway don't buy the 3.0.
Who’s gonna buy that for a thousand bucks? It’s a bench! Just a bench to lay down at
