This is amazing, can't believe I'm only seeing it now... so many memories on here, even a visit to somewhere I used to work (Saga Centre) such good times but I have to admit I choked up a lil bit when TY came on. RIP.
I am a skinny white guy and I absolutely love broken beat and yes...I love the term 'broken beat', dopeness of the highest calibre, great video...loved it!!
Can't believe this was made so long ago and I've only just seen it! How did I miss it? Wicked. Great to see and get some inspiration on what was one of the best music scene's to come out of the UK in a long time.
This is such a great watch. EDIT #1: I keep coming back to this video, and that track at 36:07 has me hooked. Anyone know the title? Sounds like Domu. EDIT #2: So far, the only thing I’ve found is that the songs featured here are part of the “Broken Vibes: The Secret Story Of Magneto” soundtrack via Discogs, and the only Domu track on there is titled ‘Tell Me Something (Vocal)’ listed at track 5. Can’t find it anywhere, though. It’s almost as if it’s lost media.
Chicago structured house. The irony is how many genres spawned from deconstructing it. This is consistent as we are now seeing amapiano and 3 step do the same thing overseas. Proof that there is freedom of creativity found outside of the US, as always.
Classic video! Alot of stuff I never knew about the super underground music movement of "Broken Beat".. Much more underground here in America.. Keep the music alive!
I think its worth mentioning in the description box that film was produced in 2008 .... which not mentioning my full time love to the uk broken beat since 1991 is a VERY VERY long time ago in electronics already today ....
There was a broken beat/nu soul tune that was playing on BBC 1XTRA, Select UK 89.6FM and Touch FM 94.0 a lot in 2007 and it had male vocals that sing "Cassiday" a lot. Anyone remember this tune and what it is? I've been searching for SO MANY years!! It sounds a lot like Afronaught - Transcend Me and DKD - Natty Head.
It's a track by Leeto forthcoming on the Cooperation label. The instrumental appeared on Our Music Our Culture Volume 1 on COOPR8. Have a look on the coopr8 dot bandcamp, it should be there.
Domu ft Pete Simpson - Tell Me Something (vocal). Quite a difficult one to track down as from what i remember only came out on the japanese cd comp and mp3 download. Found this in my archive from 18th August 2006 when I used to record Benji's shows from DAB to CD back in the day. Hope it helps! drive.google.com/drive/folders/124HE1EtrYl8vUXRb7n_wI-MunU14YpKP?usp=sharing
It's 2023 and this music still feels like it's from the future
Been listening since 1997, got to keep

RIP Ty. Ahead of your time and never frightened to push the boundaries and go against the grain. A big miss to the musical landscape.

Great stuff....we sold a few bits in Spin City....which was still up and running at the time of the Carnival in 06. Peace to all those watching.....

Would be a better treat if the Broken Beat Pioneers, would advertise or provide playlists in their DJ sets .
So we can support the music 🎶.
This is such a great watch.
