1982 Newtown v Easts Rd 1

Newtown, runners up last year, players coming and going. Easts playing a structured game, relying on defence. Newtown shifted the ball from one side of the field to the other in an attempt to create space for their two dynamic wingers.

A tough start for Newtown with half the team missing from their 1981 squad due to injuries , suspension and the 3 players who left to other clubs -Hetherington and Jenson to the Steelers and Bugden to Parra .
This game was a close score 11-5 loss to the Roosters but the 30-0 loss to Souths and then 18-0 to Wests in round 3 put the Jets behind the 8 ball .
