    Nice work, I've been cutting dovetails over 45yrs now so I might have some info you can use. Do yourself and your workpiece a favor and secure it to the bench when you chop out. I like to sit when I chop and have a rope that has a foot board on the floor- the other end goes up through the bench and then down again through another hole and is knotted. I can slide my work under the rope and put my foot on the board which holds it DOWN. Then all my chops are accurate and efficient- holding work in your lap is what a first year apprentice would do. Last tip- never do a dry fit on dovetails- when they are chopped out- glue and drive them home. Best of luck- you have good foundations and all these little tricks come along with time.

    • @kingofcastlechaos
      @kingofcastlechaos 9 месяцев назад +1

      Also lower your work in the vice so your push saw strokes don't move the work. I have a big squared block that I clamp to bench behind the work (if I must stand) that adds mass and stability. That was a real game changer back when I used push saws (switched to Japanese pull saws almost 30 yrs ago though)

      Thanks for the advice! I've only been working with hand tools for a few years and learned from RUclips videos. Previously, for more than 20 years, I worked in carpentry only with machines...

    • @kingofcastlechaos
      @kingofcastlechaos 9 месяцев назад

      @@gr_woodworking I am INCREDIBLY impressed. I am 3rd generation carpenter/ furnituremaker, and also served a shortened apprenticeship. One of the things that is hardest to teach (impart actually) is proportion, your design is stunning because it's got awesome proportions. Good design also brings out the best in your hand work and makes the job a joy. I do not subscribe to many woodworking channels but did on yours so I can enjoy the progression.

    • @dp1381
      @dp1381 9 месяцев назад

      Another good reason to clamp your work down when chopping joinery is so the bits of wood you are removing don’t end up under your work piece and then denting it when you make subsequent chops. I like the rope idea noted above. That’s quick and hands-free to reset.

    Watching your video as the other channels I normally watch are too frightening right now.
    I choose to focus on creativity and creating as opposed to any opposite; I choose to watch you create and am enjoying the grace which you add to the act through your shots and editing.
    I have relatively recently obtained the same router plane as you - your related shots really make the tool look good!
    Also, you’re good with that dovetail saw!
    (Veritas as well - lol. They ought to send you a cheque for presenting their tools in such a nice way!
    Actually, if you haven’t already done so, why not let them know what you do - tell them how many people are watching your videos (LOTS, and so it should be!).
    I mean, imagine how many viewers of the Samurai Carpenter will have gone out and ordered the same saws, chisels, stones, etc.
    Anyway, thank you - I really appreciated your video!
    Peace be with you, my brother.
    Peace be with all.

Spent about 7 moenths now in Urkaine after Feb 24th 2022, heard my share of air alarms but the closest I was (so far) to an explosion was in Hoenderloo, The Netherlands for military drills.
